My family is in the process of moving to 2 acres. I've ALWAYS wanted an OES and with this move, I feel this is now a possibility. I homeschool two children, a 7-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter, so we have plenty of time for a new puppy. The only problem I see is that our yard is not fenced. Are these dogs escape artists? We won't be living on a busy road (there are only a few houses on our street and it's not paved), but we live across the street from acres of state land. Also, I know it can't be posted, but I would appreciate the names of some good breeders in the Michigan/Ohio area. Thanks!! Carla |

Where in Michigan are you?
I can't speak for anyone else but Clyde can barely climb on the bed-- I've enver worried about him trying to pull any escape manuevers! Besides, he's such a velcro dog, he doesn't like to be a few feet away from me let alone try to get away. Like I always say, even to my mom and my boyfriend: no one loves me more than Clyde. They don't even disagree! |
I had an OES who actually climbed over an 8 foot chain link fence like he was a mountaineer. This is the same dog who would be taken to the woods and let loose and run like the wind, not returning for 4 hours. (This would be my husband's ex-girlfriend.) It really depends on temperament and training and whether or not they like you enough to stick around. |
Hello here is Michael from Germany....
We are breeding Bobtails, Bonny and Clyde are my Male and Female Sheepies...and I can say: They never leave me alone...when we go for a Walk...they are running and playing like Hell..hahaha...but after 50 to 70 meters...they turn around have a Look where I`ve been... Always the same....it`s a Sheepdog....you know?? keep the Family together...that`s it... And with children...GREAT...no problems at all.... We`ve had our first litter in April2005...1 Girl 6 Boys...and no complainings untill now.... Go...and check the Shaggybear Homepage: www.shaggybear.de to see some nice Babie Pics....sorry everything is in German..I Excuse..click around and have Fun..hahaha Greetings from Germany Michael |
Your website (opening html) is hilariiiiiiiiious!! I LOVED IT! Great Halloween theme. Pretty dogs. Why not post more on here!! |
On the puppies page of your website, there's a pic of all the sheepdogs in a pool of balls. TOO CUTE! |
We have decided to get an OES puppy and are meeting a new litter on Monday (how on Earth will we be able to wait that LONG??). From everything I've read, and from all the people I have spoken to, this sounds like the perfect breed for us, and our breeder has pretty much talked us into showing the dog we get (she actually charges less for her show-quality puppies). I figure it will be a great experience for my homeschooled kids to see the whole show process from training to (hopefully) awards. Thank you for all of your comments - I'm sure I'll have a LOT of questions once we actually get our little boy (not until December ). |
Wascross- congrats on your selection of breeder, and good luck entering the show ring! Will you be doing confirmation, or participating in agility, or herding? Any sport is great for junior showmanship, and the local levels tend to be very friendly. Make sure to work closely with your breeder to help get your dog properly conditioned, groomed, and trained to enter your ring of choice, having a mentor to show you the ropes makes the show world a much more pleasant place! GOOD LUCK!!! and we want pics of your little opne when they come home

Karen,
I'm not sure which category we'll choose - I think I'll let my daughter (11 years) pick one as I will make her the "responsible" one (though I'm sure MOM will be doing the bulk of the messy stuff!). I'm guessing she'll pick agility - she used to try to get our Miniature Schnauzer (who was born a few years before she was) to go through courses she would set up in the backyard, though he wasn't an eager participant! A new sheepie baby!!!!!
I agree....WAIT UNTIL DECEMBER! I'll do my best!!!! Congrats! I can hardly wait for the pictures...maybe you could snap a few on Monday? |
Ha, ha, I fell for that "maybe we will show him" thing and now we're sucked in!!
Seriously, congrats on your decision and I'm sure you'll have so much with him in your happy home. |
Hi,
the Babies loved the Balls...playing around....and it was hard, to give them away...1 Girl and 6 Boys...The Girl was a Witch...really!!! like her Mother..Bonny!!! hahaha When we got her....after our old Boy died, we`ve planned, to keep only on Sheepie...but she was HYPER!!! Drives us crazy....she was really crazy..damaged a lot...and we were not able to keep her alone...she jumped on a Table, smashed everything down...Distroyer!!!! Sometimes, I sat in front of her and asked her: "Hey Girlie what should we do???" SHE WAS A WITCH!!! REALLY!!! I asked her Breeder...for Help: Great suggestion from Her...You have enough Space? Do You have Money?....A Friend of Her had Babies this Time...We go there and You Buy another one!!! My God ...another Witch...OK...We bought another one...Quästor of Rich mountain named "Clyde"....and this Breeder invited us for Shows, to start our own Breeding.....After X-Rays of the Hipps, Medical Checks.... Since that Time, the second arrived...really Quiet, no more Witches...Super Sheepie Team right now...one loves each other......and up there...is one: The Old Boy...Chivas...he takes care about the "Shaggy Bears of scottish Highlands"..!!!! Sorry, Í`m German, and sometimes I`m using wrong Words and Tenses...Excuse that!!! |
The Reason, that I post not so much:
You know, I`m German, and I`m a little bit afraid to use wrong words...hahaha sorry.. I can read and understand everything...but I`ve lost a lot of words...during the last Years....And beside the Sheepies and my 3Shift Security Job....I run my little Business...Antic Furniture...Buying,Selling and Restore of old Furniture....and soon is Christmas...so I have to Restore good old Stuff, to sell... Greetings Michael |
Michael, your english is fantastic! I wish I could speak another language as well as you!!! Keep it up and why havent you been in the chat room lately? |
