I've heard of ear hair plucking...but I'm not sure how to go about it...it sounds kind of mean. Doesn't it hurt? What would I use to get the hair out? I've trimmed the hair around the area to get to the skin to get the wax, but I need some experienced advice here, please! |

Hi Poppy's Mom,
We are lucky to have many knowledgeable members on the forum. An excellent article on ear care is here: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=2074 by Carl Lindon |
Apparently most sheepdogs have pretty deep ear canals so unless you're digging for gold, no need to worry. You still need to excercise caution but you shouldn't have any problems with routine cleaning and plucking. |
My vet gave me a tip when I was worried about cleaning my Aussies ears. She said that as long as you keep the q-tip straight with the ear opening that you could not get to anything that would cause them damage. Not sure if that made sense or not, but I tried. |
Wow, I had no idea that there was such a great article already in this section for cleaning ears. And thanks for the advice about going straight down her ear canals. I'll give it a shot and if I have any problems, you can bet that I'll show up here asking more questions.
I printed the previously referenced article to keep on hand while I try this out. |
