He's been licking a lot too, could he have an infection? I had attributed the licking to the length of hair, but the spurting thing now has me wondering. |

I don't know, Jil. Beauregaurd does both (spurts sometimes, long stream other times). I don't think that in itself is an indicator of infection. But, if you're concerned, I'd take him to the vet to be checked out - just in case. |
I've noticed it depends on how full the bladder is. Nearly bursting results in a long stream. Somewhat full is spurts.
By all means, trim the hairs off the end of the penis and wash the area. If that doesn't help, take a sample to the vet. Clean jar and fresh as possible. Don't let it sit around for a few hours. Call the vet first to see if you could just drop off a sample or if you will need an appointment first. With my vet we just take in samples, pay, and she calls later. But then we are good clients.......I'm sure we paid for a large portion of her new building. |
Jil, a lot of licking at this area surely could be signs of an infection especially if Bently is neuterred. I went through this once with my last boy. He also had a little drip thing going on too. Antibiotics cleared it right up and it never came back. |
if he is straining to urinate it could indicate an oncoming blockage. If he is just urinating in spurts then it could be an infection or just how full his bladder is. If it were me I would have my vet do a urinalysis or an ultrasound guided cystocyntesis. It could also be nothing at all.
