Hi Janell!
There was a recent thread in General chat on this. You can view it here: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=3577 Hope this helps! |
Ahhh, yes, when it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Thanks for the link! |
Take a look in the training section.
There is an outline for obedience using positive reinforcement. Also, the Dog whisperer, Ceasar Milan has a dvd. Cesar's Way : The Natural, Everyday Guide to Understanding and Correcting Common Dog Problems (Hardcover), by Cesar Millan, Melissa Jo Peltier People Training for Dogs, Cesar Milan's DVD Good luck! |
I have watched a few of the Dog Whisperer shows on National Geographic channel- it is good and very interesting! |
I have just ordered the course. The material seems ok, presented well, no problems accessing anything etc. However...... in my opinion there is nothing extra ordinary, nothing unusual etc. Also, I specifically ordered it because I have a hound and was looking for specific tips as claimed.
I have not received a reply after several attempts at answering "where's the speciicf hond" information, if not then refund my money.... have not received an answer. Ron Black Phoenix AZ |
Thank you everyone for the input. We recently acquired a "rescue puppy" that is supposed to be part australian cattle dog. We want a well-behaved dog and I did a little research into this breed. Low and behold I found "his stuff", which sounded to good to be true. I procrastinated for 3 weeks now and am glad I did based on the input from all of you. I hope that each of you that got ripped off will be able to get your money back.

dean rankin - real or busted
Hello everyone, I am so glad I found this forum and just wanted to say thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. I just ran into the DRankin site. I had my suspicians about his claims. How easily we are seduced by advertising but we are all getting smarter/wiser to 'their' manipulative greedy methods. All the very best to everyone and their beloved dogs! LA |
Janell wrote: We are getting out puppy in less than one week!! In my effort to get ready, I have seen an audio traing manual from Dean Rankin. His promises seem a little too good to be true, but also offers a 100% money back deal. Just wondered if anyone had ever tries his method or heard of it. Thanks for the input!
did you ever get any feedback or try this technique that Dean Rankin provides? we are in same boat - getting a new puppy very shortly and wondering if the promises can be real? |
Many people have come here complaining about Dean Rankin. Everyone that has received it says the same things -- "It's not breed specific" at best, and "He ripped me off" at worst.
You've been informed. |
I've trained using the Volhard method...Positive reinforcement technique. Jack and Wendy Volhard are well known for their training. They have some books, dvd, even a training camp. I've been to the training camp and its wonderful...My last OES got his CD title and we used their methods.
They have a site too www.volhard.com For me, they are the best and I recommend them and their technique highly. Good luck! |
Because I visited his site, I now get his newsletter that annoys me tremendously. He makes some wild claims, that he can train my Doberman to do something in seven minutes. The only thing that will train my Doberman to do something that quickly is HOTDOGS!!! If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. There are a lot of people out there taking advantage of those who are less knowledgeable in dog training experience. However, the process is really simple---New puppy or older dog coming in new to a home----GET A KENNEL!!!!! The fastest way to train for housebreaking and most all housekeeping and manner issues is a KENNEL!!! This serves as the same as a child's room. When you are gone from home, it keeps them out of trouble, when they make a mistake (urinating in the house), it serves as punishment, for chewing on the furniture. They learn that I got put in my kennel for something wrong that I did. Only use for punishment for short increments of time. Let them back out of the kennel and let them try again. If you wouldn't allow your children to do it, don't allow your dog to do it or behave that way. After general housebreaking issues, you can go through the AKC and find a trainer in your area by inquiring the evaluator closest to you that is certified for the CGC certificate. These evaluator are recognized through the AKC for "good citizen" dogs. They can earn these certificates by going through obedience classes.
My Doberman has his CGC certificate and is a personal protection dog and is very well obedience trained. |
DO NOT sign up for any of Dean Rankin's e-mail lists, you will get ENDLESS e-mail messages w/o ability to remove your name.
I have blocked him countless times, but he just resends from a new e-mail address later. DEAN RANKIN is not a worthy fellow in my opinion, anyone who spams you must be bad. |
My advice is do not sign up to anything for Dean Rankin. I completed a email form for him and now I am bombarded with emails titled Vicki do you want your Old English Sheepdog to stop peeing inside the house. Teach George not to jump on furniture amongst a million others !!
It's a nightmare and I can't seem to stop the emails!! |
WOW, what timing to find everyone's responses relatng to the dean rankin dog training. i just stumbled onto his website by chance for i do have a bulldog that requires "help". i was interested in his claim of helping with bulldog training, so i searched the net and found ya'lls remarks... needless to say, ya'll who contributed with your experiences have saved me money, time, and frustration.
thank you all for your contribution. new hampshire |
i used the dean rankin audio training program. Its working well for me. You cant expect your dog to learn something permanently in 15 minutes, but be persistent with his methods and they work. I've had my weimaraner pup for just under a month and he already knows all of the general commands. He's only 4 months old too. It does work pretty fast. Besides, its only 50 bucks. Where else can you get a training program for 50 bucks. Not at an obedience school. |
Thanks, "Dean". |
i emailed the guy a few times to say i couldnt afford the session, and he kept spamming me, a ridiculous amount of emails.
it took me to email his personal address a couple of times threatening to contact his ISP to report him. i got a snippy email back, and its now stopped. dont know if that means anything in terms of his training, but not very professional |
Hi, all.
First of all Dean Rankin is one of many an alias for Frank Kern. Many marketers use aliases, BTW. Frank Kern is, in my humble opinion, NOT a rip-off artist, although he is a marketer extraordinaire. The Dean Rankin dog training info product sites are based on what Frank typically calls "Under Achiever" philosophy. Essentially, he finds small, niche markets and creates simple websites catering to the particular niche market. The info product is usually ghost-written or produced and the sites are set up to be marketed without any fuss (i.e. no monitoring, no replying, no maintenance, etc.). This is why "Dean Rankin" does not respond personally to emails. Dean Rankin, a.k.a Frank Kern has hundreds of sites like this in hundreds of niches. If you go to his MassControl website, he provides all kinds of free marketing info on his blog... and the information is quite good, and free. The free info leads (sooner or later) to his backend products which typically sell for $1995 - $3995. He is highly regarded among internet marketers for his methods (some of which may be greyhat or blackhat now since google has changed its marketing rules and algorythms more than several times ), and he never renegs on refunds, as far as I know. For those of you who claim he never sent anything... it is most likely that you did not WHITELIST his email addresses or have your SPAM settings on HIGH and as a result, the emails from "Dean Rankin" have been automatically junked in the SPAM folder and automatically deleted based on your preferential settings. I have purchased some of his more expensive products and I must say the information is very high-caliber. I can't say the same for his cheaper entry-level products (under $100) since they are probably ghost-written or ghost-produced. If you can't get in touch with "Dean Rankin," which is a likely scenario since Dean Rankin sites are based on Under Achiever methodology (no monitoring, no maintenance, etc.) just look up Frank Kern (Mass Control) and send an email to his email addy and I can practically guarantee he will reply personally. He really is a nice guy... and very laid back. He did get sued by the FTC some time ago for not having a DISCLAIMER on one of his websites. That was the only reason why he was sued. After that harrowing experience, he came up with a new "UnderAchiever" marketing idea, decided to go incognito and verify if his new "UnderAchiever" methodology would work or not. I guess it has been pretty successful for him, as he soldout an UnderAchiever course ($1995, I think... and no longer available due to limited supply) that explained in detail how he did it. He recently marketed his "MassControl" course (sold out) which goes into specific details of his new marketing strategies which are completely different from the UnderAchiever system. BTW I am NOT Frank Kern. |
Thank you, <strike>Dean</strike> <strike>Frank</strike> whoever you are. |
Ron wrote: Thank you, <strike>Dean</strike> <strike>Frank</strike> whoever you are.
BTW, my first name really is Joe. I've nothing to hide, and I made my comments to help explain what I understand to be a problem for some of you. This way, you'll know what to expect (somewhat) if you purchase from an automated site in the future. Essentially, all the site owner receives is a confirmation email that says another sale has been made. I think "Dean Rankin" rarely even checks those emails anymore since he has so many of those types of sites that were set up two or three years ago... when automated simple sites were the craze in the internet marketing arena. One more thing on Dean Rankin a.k.a. Frank Kern, for those of you who say he has been spamming you... all his emails from UnderAchiever sites (unmonitored, automated) are based on autoresponders. So, of course, if you send an email to his autoresponder, it will start the whole cycle again... and you'll be getting the same series of emails again. Hope this helps with your future purchases. |
I ordered the books back in the middle of June and here it is rolling into August and I have not recieved anything. Made numerous attempts to contact them and keep finding dead ends. Make no mistake.....some things are too good to be true. |

BTW I am NOT Frank Kern. All of the above is probably true but this really saddens me. I am an internet marketer and I was looking for some dog training products recently to promote and came across "Dean Rankin". The product was specifically for Labradors and I though that was pretty neat. Then I continued looking and found chihuahuas, german shepherds, etc etc.......all by him with the same recording. I really got mad! The only thing on the sales letter that gave him some reprieve was the last sentence that said that this training should work with any breed (disclaimer) BUT it was very misleading. This whole discussion has made me more determined than ever to "market with integrity" and remember that we have a responsibility to those we are advertising to.............. Do know that you can stop the emails by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the bottom. They should stop.... So glad I found this forum..............by the way.......your dog pictures are adorable! |
RE the various spam mail you receive, I take you are running mail filtering software in your internet security software? if not why not? it will remove from view these modern day irritations, your own email client be it Outlook or whatever will have facilities to set up filtering rules.
Just add irritations as they arrive to the filter list, for Mr Rankin set to Filter the body of the email search for Dean Rankin (or any of his key specific phrases in his blurb) in this case, eventually as you fine tune your list you'll have a much cleaner email box. Can I interest any one in Viagra? Bank fund transfers? |
