Hi Janerh,
Welcome to the forum! We have a section on dog training--both basic and advanced Here's a link for you -it has an obedience training outline http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=3332 Good luck! There are also many other good books that members have suggested. Take a look at the behavior section too! |
Like so many of us I have built up quite a library of training books since I got Barney last year. I still place "The Dog Listener" by Jan Fennel at the top of the list, and underscore the chapter on Amicien bonding. I would also recommend the AKC publication: "The Canine Good Citizen" by Jack and Wendy Volhard for a good outline of basic commands for the dog. As for particular behavior problems, the various threads on the Behavior forum cover just about any problem you might encounter, with variety of solutions.
Good luck. In training the three most important principles are timing, consistency and motivation. |
