Layla will full-on BARE her teeth and growl very wildly at Sophie and go so far as to physically fight with her -- this may be because Sophie is walking past her or maybe trying to lie next to her. Poor Sophie cries and runs away and at first, she would sort of circle around Layla as if to say "Catch me if you can, bully". Anyway, for the past few weeks, Layla has gotten much nastier to Sophie (not to any of us) and even if someone is petting Sophie and Layla walks into the room, she will lunge for the pup and then contentedly sidle up to be pet (needless to say, she is scolded and NOT pet when behavior like that occurs, making her sullen). The two of them are gated in my kitchen during the day and I have a feeling, from Sophie's behavior when I get home from work, that Layla is totally messing with Sophie during the day. Sophie goes from being a fiesty little clown to a scared and shivering doggie. Any suggestions as to how to change either dogs behavior? Especially when its occuring when no one is around? I hate to think that they would ever have to be permanently separated, as in separate homes, but I really don't want to see the baby hurt. |

Welcome to the forum... firstly I would recommend crating them when you're not home, and perhaps use the crate when you are home to give them some down time.
Are they both spayed? If one is coming into heat that would explain a lot, their whole demeanor can change for a good month before they even come into heat. |
