At first, I wanted to do something that dad could carry to, and he loves this (not to mention it's from his FAVORITE store): http://www.rei.com/online/store/Product ... 0740#specs Then I thought... wait a minute. I'll be a stay at home mom, so this will be something "I AM GOING TO USE" every where I go. The bag above will not look cute with a nice white sweater and khaki's (and snow boots..haha). I plan on tossing out my cute purse for the most part. Anyways, so it has to be something that will go with everything I wear. At least, that's what I'm thinking now....... but am not completely set on anything. I like this one: http://www.babyage.com/i_25782_eb3724_e ... r_bag.aspx But am also wondering if I'd prefer a "shoulder strap" over fashion. So here is a combo of both (fashion and ease), but I'm not digging it as much since again.. trips to the mall and out to eat with the other mommies .........it looks more "diaperbag-ish" instead of purse. http://cgi.ebay.com/Eddie-Bauer-Manches ... dZViewItem Which one do you like? Hurry, cause I have to order today! |

P.S. You can't add any more to the list because it took me all night to narrow it down to these 3.
I'll never get a diaper bag if there are more choices. I like REI and Eddie Bauer (company wise). |
I think I would have to go with choice #1. It is not as cute but looks much more functional. It has a nice wide opening, makes for easy use. The pockets seem large enough that you can actually put things in them. Zippers are nice so you don't loose those little things. Has a nice shoulder strap with a pad. Always seem to need 10 hands with babies. Putting it on your shoulder is a plus. Wish we had all these choices when my kids were little. Thing were pretty bacic. |
I like the second one - for myself , but for your purposes I would
go for the last one. It looks a tad larger, and if you are concerned about it going with everything the first one is out. The hospital gave me one with a cold pouch that holds two 8 oz bottles and a frozen cold pack. I had spent good money on a Winnie the Pooh bag - and I ended up using the plain black one I got from the hospital anyway. It was more handy and usable than the one I bought- and this was for my second child. It worked out ok though, because I used the Pooh one for clothes and toys and such when we were going away for more than just a few hours, and the black hospital one for bottles, diapers, wipes, plastic bags... In fact it may not be a bad idea to get one that daddy can use and another that you like, because you will eventually will gravitate to one or the other. Then you always have a back up. I know it seems excessive, but you never know what you might have to wash off the bag - and that way you always have one ready to go!. Just my thoughts - you will know what to do for you! Good luck- this is so exciting!! Shellie |
Thanks for the input so far. Keep em coming!
Just for the record, after looking at them at other sites, they all have the same dimensions (by an inch). I thought about getting 2, but I'll just wait and see if someone buys me one. I need the $30-40 to buy other baby things!!! Buying a house and a big move sucks you dry! ...not to mention that Mr. J is big on buying tons of Christmas presents for everyone (too cheap doesn't cut it for him, which I understand since its our family). |
I vote for the 2nd one...simple and elegant...not to baby baggie...let me ask you this...do you dress more sporty or just casual? Id go for the second one only because I am very non athletic...lol..... |
I like #1, I like the pockets on the outside, so you are not rooting around inside, # also looks cool and trendy and sporty/casual, and it looks like a good transition piece, that will be a backpack for toddler, room for snacks, toys etc...after awhile you don't want a "diaper" bag, but still need something to pack the stuff around. I love that is has a bottle cooler in it...you will love that...so will baby to have cold juice instead of warm.
I had the traditional diaper bag, and hated it...I prefered a backpack, and bought a bottle bag, and small ice pack to keep juice, milk cold. Bigger is not always better, all you need is a few diapers, wipes, receiving blanket, a sleeper (extra) 1-2 toys, and extra soother....when you come home you restock. Otherwise my second choice is #2. Elegant, and mature. #3 looks pretty worn, and this is something that's fun to buy new. |
No Petunia Pickle Bottom?
I can't believe I just typed that! I am going to go drink a beer. |
I do love the second one as far as looks, but as far as functionality... I would get one like the third one. The first one looks too bulky to carry it around easily.
Just remember this: The more room the better. You are going to need at least 5 diapers in there, wipe, bottles, changes of clothes, changing pad, bibs, when he's a little older you will need to carry some spare jars of baby food, toys etc. I keep the bottles in a seperate compartment with an ice pack. Also with most bottles, like the Dr Browns that I use if the bottles are not kept in an upright position they will leak out. They make Diaper Bags for a reason... They really are convenient and are meant to hold all the essentials. Elissa |
Leanne,
I would go with #1 (this was very hard for me because of the fashion issue!) but I think the strap sold me. #3 to me just looked blah and had nothing to offer looks-wise. #2 was cutest, but I think a shoulder strap would be a good idea to have. #1 is very useful, looks waterproof, and you can always claim 'sporty' as the reason you chose it (which is fashionable). And it isn't ugly, just sporty. Besides, like you said, on the off chance of your husband carrying it, he'll like that it is REI! |
my son is 4 months old and i have two
one is a hard rucksack thing and the other a shoulderbag the shoulder bag is much more handy the rucksack just happens to match the luggage and slides over the suitcase hand mine are from samsonite so really well made and black but a bit pricey (mine was on offer i couldn't resist) it seems very simular to number 3 so i'd go for that one the mat comes in really usefull but i also find that an insulted bottle pocket is really useful |
Definitely number 3. Lots of pockets like number 1 would just frustrate me, because I could never remember where I put what so had to check them all anyway. Number 2...would never use the purse, and just threw my wallet in the bag. Number 3 is nice and big, in case you need to throw a towel, jaclet or a bulky purchase. You can always use it as a beach bag or travel bag later, as it looks conventional. I breastfed, so cannot relate to the bottle-warming thingys....Might be something to consider..? |
actually I never considered price when I replied earlier! Sorry.
I got my Winnie the Pooh for $11 (yep - new!) and the hospital one with the bottle cooler included for free. Now that I am thinking of it I saw one of the formula companies (Similac I think) with an ad where you can get a free bag with the little cooler bag for free. You may want to check out some of the formula web sites for that - even if you pay shipping for a freebie it is still dirt cheap for a back up bag. Shellie |
Another thing I just noticed about #3...not worn out, sorry must have been my lighting. Anyways, it is nice and neutral, but I think the flap thing is gonna get very very annoying. Esp if you want to grab something quick, you will be stopping to move the flap. I like things handy, and that looks inconvientent to me...you will be doing alot of things 1 handed, your stuff should be easy to get out. |
oh, wow. I didn't think I'd be more confused, but I'm considering a lot now due to the comments.
Anyways, I dont' know if it will make a difference but there is also a black version of number 2 (found if you select the color once you click on the second url). I really want #2 ...now maybe in black??? but... I do keep juggling with 1 and 3 since I prefer a strap. |
I re read the descriptions, #2 is now my favorite:
Features #2 Main compartment inlcudes built in insulated bottle holders, organize pocket, changing pad & accessory pouchFront slash pocket is equipped with credit cars organizer, mes pockets, pen and key chain holder Adjustable double handle strap for carrying comfort Side bottle pockets with snap closure Built in metal feet Reinforced construction Made of water resistant, durable fabric, with leather like trim Features for #1:3-point hook-and-loop tabs let you connect diaper bag to bottom area of your favorite REI child carrier pack Top and front full zip openings give you easy access when attached to child carrier or when carried alone Separate zippered compartment with lining keeps the cleans from the dirties Front padded bottle pocket keeps bottles cool for the thirsty little one Features a padded over-the-shoulder strap for convenient carrying Main compartment is fully lined and sides are padded for carrying towels, bibs and pacifiers and more baby essentials It doesn't have a change pad...easily make one. So it's up to you, whether or not you want sporty/trendy, or classic sophisticated. Altho #1 is a really good price, and #2 is more expensive...buy what you love. #2 is okay for him too....maybe get it in black. |
After reading the descriptions (I only looked at the pictures the first time!) I like #2 the best. I think that you will be able to carry it on your shoulders fine (unless you really feel like you need it across your body) and I think it is the best looking one and none of them are all that expensive (although I do have the knack of choosing the most expensive!)...But, I also have no kids and have never used/needed a diaper bag, so I am going just on pure looks/marketing from the websites... |
Okkkkkkkkay. I ordered #2 in black.
I looked it up on other sites to see if I could get a cheaper price, and it was listed as $60, so I guess I'm happy. Shipping was only 5.95 (flat rate shipping) thanks everyone! |
Yeah for deciding!
And, doesn't it make you feel better that you got the one you really wanted (rather than settling for another!)? And black goes with everything! |
I would definitely want the shoulder strap.... you simply won't have enough hands....
I like the first one, looks functional and durable. I'm not a fashionable type person though so if what you want is to look good don't ask me. Honestly though, when they're young you'll be covered in barf, pee and poop at least once a day, as they get older it's boogers and juice, fashion tends to go right out the window. After you've changed your clothes half a dozen times a day you'll settle for easy to find and clean. |
Eeeewww, Stacey, you're scaring me! |
Without looking at any other votes I vote #3 (I'm an Eddie auer fan). #1 looks like a gym bag, #2 looks inconvenience to carry, #3 looks JUST RIGHT
OOOOPS, you already ordered |
