Chloe is our third OES. Our first one was 14 1/2 when she passed and her coat thinned, but never turned this color. |

Welcome to the forum
The coat thinning may just be her age... you were very lucky to have one live past 14... I wish we could all be so lucky.... It may be a thyroid problem, that does sometimes crop up in old age.... perhaps a trip to the vet to ensure all is in order? |
Holly (bestdogsx4) has Windfields and has the same problem-- hers do have thyroid conditions. I'm sure if you e-mail her she'd be glad to talk to you about it. |
Hi Lynn-
I have 4 of Margarets dogs, two of the boys have hypothyroidism. It is much as you described, thinning hair and a darkening of the coat. The vet will run a T-4 on Chloe to determine if that's what she has. This is a fairly common problem so don't be alarmed. Luke and Rosco have been on L-thyroxine for quite some time and are doing fine. Within 12-14 weeks new coat will start to appear and it will be black. Does Chloe look as if she has some small shaved areas? Some dogs gain weight and lack energy, mine didn't have those symptoms. The medication will help that also. There are several other Windfields here, Sandy in FL and Zach in GA, I know they haven't had this problem. You sound familiar to me, did you used to show with Margaret? |

Just curious, what strength do they give the dogs? |
I think Luke gets.8 and Rosco gets 1, I'm assuming mgs but I'm not sure. |
