Hobbies or Interests????

Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone has any hobbies or interests, you know, besides our beloved sheepies. Like anyone could have time?

I my self have a few and love to share what I'm leaning at any given time. I love to cook, I make jewelry, and I knit. I do have other interests, but draw the line on what I have going at this point.

Anyone else out there with any hobbies, perhaps more intesting than mine?

Hi Tayler Mom, I have other interests. My first love is cooking. I wish I had gone to school. I can spend a whole day cooking for a month of dinners. Then freeze them for when I don't have time. That was when I was working. Now that I am home all day ( not by choice) I make great dinners every night. Also I love to knit. Have made all of my grandchildrens baby out fits, blankets and sweaters. Now I am not doing that so much. Idid it for 20 years and now I need something new.
I do all kind of arts and crafts. Make my own decorations ect.

I have a Xmas village I put up. It is so big it takes about a month or more to set everything up. It gets bigger every year.
We bought this house this past Janurary. It will be fun to put it up in a new home. My husband has to build long tables to set things on. I have made the village into 3 or 4 scenes. I could go on forever.

I also like to garden and next year have plans on growing my own vegies.

Good question though, thanks for the idea.
When I worked I am a kitchen and bath designer.

Deana
I love to cook/bake, cross-stitch, read, spend time with my boys, fish, run, camp, hike, the computer, hmm... that's about all I can really think of. :)

Oh wait...scrapbook! loll I guess I should say the weather too since that's what my major was in college.
Good topic!

I love to edit digital photos, make mixed music CDs, and I enjoy various home repair projects. I also like to knit!
I love cooking and freezing for later use too, it is such a cost saver.

Reading is a favorite of mine too, I forgot to mention that oneā€¦ I like mysteries right now.

Photography, but I have let that go by the way side. I worked at Kodak for ever, years ago.

Home repair/remodeling project. Me too!
Oh I forgot, I want to learn about canning.

Anyone do this?
Renovations (it must be a hobby of mine since we have been living in one for so long LOL and now that it is almost completely finished....we are house hunting  )
Besides being with my kids 2 legged and 4 legged....I enjoy Reading, sewing, knitting, smocking (havent made any smocked dresses in a few years...my kids are too old for them) needlepoint, crochet, net surfing(lately I am spending too much time on this hobby  ).
I am learning how to paint (as in paint a room) out of necessity...there is SO much painting to be done and since I am home the most I figured it was time for me to learn to do it.
Cooking has to be one of my least favorite things to do...but I am a good cook. I don't enjoy gardening either, but I do enjoy a nice garden
Decorating my own house...I like to think I have a creative mind....Painting rooms, and picking things that compliment each other...etc.

Shopping, I love seeing everything in the stores, and comparing them to other stores.

Gardening, if I had the time.

Dogs....I love learning everything about them.

Change, I love changing things, from minor to major....

Camping...we love to camp at nice lakes, but it's hard to find a place you love and want to go back to year after year.

TV...we are addicted

Computer...I love to research, and have a couple favorite places to visit everyday...like this website.

My kids are a big part of our life, and that tends to put other interests to the side.
Have to try just about any kind of crafting. Love to read mysteries. Who's your favorite. I love Sue Graftton and Patricia Cornwell. I work in the yard when I can. People think I'm silly but I find it thereputic to pull weeds! Like to sew and quilt but never seem to find much time for it. Maybe I could if I wasn't checking the forum a few times a day !! I admire those of you who knit. My grandmother taught me when I was little but was never any good at it. Would love to learn to tat lace. Think it is a dying art. Don't ever hear of it very often.
Travel with my better half, especially Canada and Europe

Cooking, and discovering new restaurants

Visiting old bookstores

Reading/computer

Learning new dances (so far-middle eastern dance* , flamenco,
hula, looking for samba classes!!)
(* also called danse orientale or belly dance!)

Brushing, brushing, brushing the Bogart!!!!
Baking: breads, cookies, coffee cakes
Bass Fishing

I love to edit digital photos

Maybe you can put a handlebar mustache on Barney - on the left of my Avatar. :D
I have been really into photography since I was a kid.
Since getting sick with Fibromyalgia I have not been able to do any of the things I used to Dance, Ski, Hike, Horseback Riding...etc
So I got really into photography again. It was basically the one and only thing I could still do. I spent the money for a really good digital camera.
Since I got the camera three years ago I won a couple of awards, got published in four books and was given an art gallery show online :D
For those interested you can view my photography at http://www.abs-galleries.com/exhibition ... 3&user=401 (make sure you click on the thumbnails to view the full image, The thumbnail seems to cut parts of the pictures off)
I also really enjoy cooking but have a hard time spending time on my feet.... So I basically now just stick to quick and easy. But every now and then I will spend hour cooking. I just really hate to clean up.
Flowers.. I love my Rose Bushes and all my other flowers...also taking photos of them :D
Oh yeah...computers too. I have built quite a few websites...nothing too fancy. I also run three Online Support Groups for Fibromyalgia... Oh that reminds me I haven't posted there in a month...oops
And Reading... I love to read... Fiction. My favorite authors are Steven King and Dean Koontz.
Elissa
You are very talented. Those are beautiful pictures that you took. I really enjoyed looking at them.
Sheepie people have a lot in common!!

I love house renovations, well the kind that you want to do, not have to do...LOL I love gardening, although sadly, this year, not much has been done.
I really have found doing websites a lot of fun. My husband goes to OSU for computer programming and website design, and he has taught me a lot, so now I get to play around with my site, and are now working on a friends website.
Of course, our sheepies and this forum is one of my favorite hobbies, although I haven't had a lot of time to enjoy it as much as I was.
Raising our Ragdoll kittens and going to cat shows has been a family hobby, that we are really enjoying. Ashlan is hoping to begin jr. exhibiting soon. We are going to wait for the right girl to come along for her to show.
I also like to draw, mostly people. I am learning piano right along with Ashlan. She is actually a little better than me...LOL, but she practices more.
I also love IM's, although I have a best friend who returned to work and has left me messageless....LOL (You know who you are :P )
I love reading, but seem to get very little time to do so. My favorite is Dean Koontz.

CJ's hobbies, are a lot the same as mine, although, he has one hobby that I don't. He is 3rd degree blackbelt in Tae Kwon Doe. He really likes most anything to do with computers, as long as he can figure it out....LOL He is almost done with his degree, and is now been talking about going to Vet school. We shall see where this goes, but if that is what he wants, I will back him 100%. He has almost a 4.0, so I know he can do it.

Elissa I love taking pictures of my family and pets, can you give me a few tips to get better shots. I also need help learning to take better indoor pictures, without very much natural light.

Great topic TylersMom, I enjoyed hearing everyones reply.

That's Monsieur Barney to you!
Image

I got that mustache from Pepe Morales (http://www.handlebarclub.org.uk/eugalleryf.htm) and tossed in a hat for Maggie too.

Actually, that's pretty silly and fun but my favorite thing is restoring old photos or repairing ugly ones. Here's an example --

From this:

To this:
http://www.kalorama.net/modules/gallery/darkroom/aac

Here's another where I had to recreate the shirt:
http://www.kalorama.net/modules/gallery/darkroom/adam

Or take a picture that looks kinda crummy:
http://www.kalorama.net/modules/gallery/darkroom/aad

And make it look a little less crummy:
http://www.kalorama.net/modules/gallery/darkroom/aag

I can add people in, take people out, swap heads, etc. I also do alot of goofy animations but I can find any examples at the moment. . .

I love cats but am unfamiliar with that breed. What are they like?
Thanks Valerie,

I love the hat. Looks like a new Avatar coming!
Bev, We have a lot in common.

We also enjoying camping & jet skiing.

I LOVE to shop!!!

My husband is a remodeling contractor so we are always doing something to our own house or one of our rentals.

I would love to have a garden, but I don't know the first thing about what to do. (I was raised in the city...LOL)

TV is a big part of my life too although I only watch the shows that I really like, but nothing comes before them!

And my life is 75% spent in front of a computer. Probably why my eyes are so bad. :o(

Crazy
I love love love to garden. That's why I haven't been on all summer. When it's nice out I'm outside. I'm pretty much a homebody because I like to be home with my dogs. I also like to knit but only know how to do basic stuff so far. I want to make a felted purse this winter. I like to do mosaics and make all kinds of garden junk also. I just mosaiced a butterfly bath for my garden. I'm a jack of all trades master of none. Probably have a little attention deficit disorder. I would love to learn how do do more on the computer. My oldest daughter is in her 3 year of college. She is going to be a physicians asssistant and my youngest is a junior and works after school. So neither of then have the time to show me. Can anyone recommend a good book to help. I have windows XP version I believe. I would love to post some pics but can't figure out even where the upload button is in the toolbar. I love Deen Koonz also but I don't know why I was a little disapointed with Cold Fire I just read.
I think the one that I liked was Midnight it scared the crap out of me. I read so many books I can't remember. The other thing I love to do is look at all the garden pics in Garden web galleries and cottage garden galleries. I would love to learn to be able to post there also. Want to learn how to chat when I have time to . There's just now enough time in a day to do everything. Anyone else feel like that.Maybe I just need medicated to focus.lol
Thank You Tommy, Valerie & Ron :D

Stormi, I have a website link I can send you with all sorts of tips.
There is even one where you can take free online course. I'll have to do some digging to find it.

Valerie, Great work with the photo of Barney & Maggie... It's hysterical!
Your work is fabulous! I can only do minimal editing, I really need a better program. I just took a picture and removed all sorts of elements and had to clone a leg into the picture. It's a lot of work. Turned out ok.
I should send the original to you and the finished product to get some pointers. If that's ok?

I would also like to say thanks to Tyler's Mom... It's really cool to see how much stuff we all have in common besides just Sheepies.

Herbgirl & Stormi You've got to read Dean's new books. The Frankenstein Books. He has released book's 1 and 2 so far of a 3 book series. I found them to be wonderful

Elissa
Wow! We have such talented members on this forum!

We're doing a lot of home reno, but I wouldn't call it a "hobby", it's more of a "requirement"! I am also learning to garden. This is my first home with a yard, and since I didn't grow up in the desert learning to grow stuff here is a big challenge. My favorite sport is Scuba, I have all kinds of certifications and go on several trips a year. I love to travel, both for business and for fun. I do a lot of reading. My husband and I are really interested in wine - I know that sounds like a drinking problem, not a hobby! But we take classes, go to tastings and visit vineyards when we can. And I also love to scrapbook.

Sue
This is a very interesting topic! Thanks Tyler's Mom!

Val - your editing work is too cool! I would LOVE to be able to do stuff like that! The hat & moustache are so funny!

Elissa - your photos are wonderful. You're very talented. :D

Stormi - what is involved in showing cats? I've always wondered about that. :? :D

Zahra - aren't you adventurous? Belly dancing?? WOW! 8)
Wow, had no idea that I would get this much reaction. But it is nice to know what else we do and are interested in.

I would love to know how to do a web page, but since I don't have the time really, I did do a blog, you can reach it by clicking on the WWW button below. Anyway, my blog is about my knitting adventures and our dogs. I post photos of what I make and the sheepies of course. I just started so I only have a few entries so far and as I read other bloggers, I realize many of them are really good writers and have the ability to get you into what they are telling you about.... I hope to develop that skill in my blogging. So visit anytime and leave comments too.

I forgot to mention photography. I worked for Kodak forever and love taking photos. I recently had my old 35mm overhauled and started taking a few shots with it again. Like riding a bike, you never forget.

Thanks to everyone who has shared a little bit of what they do. I find it interesting that we really have more in common than just our Sheepies.

Sure! I am happy to discuss. Using a good program makes all the difference in the world. I use Photoshop. I can do stuff in other programs, but Photoshop is really crucial to producing good output. It is a complex program but its complexity means you can do alot of sophisticated things subtley (or not so subtlely in the case of the hat). It is alot of work but I find it very engrossing and fun. If you are not up for Photoshop (which is expensive), the consumer version "Photoshop Elements" is the next-best thing.
im so drained from school that these days my hobbies are eating pizza and watching tv.

but when i have the energy im a huge chess nerd, i love the outdoors so i do a lot of hiking biking and in the fall i do a lot of running with walter, and im an animal rights activist (im making up for not being able to volunteer much lately by starting up a chapter of the SALDF, student animal legal defense fund, at school... im really excited for it!)
Now Pizza eating is a hobby I could really get into. So Heather, tell me what is the object of the hobby.... how many different kinds, how many different parlors, different brands, all veggie, all meat...

Really, I do like your hobby, I think its pretty funny what school will do to a person. No wonder everbody gains weight in college.

enjoy school, cause after school comes the job....
Ooooh good topic  i love these types....but my hobbies are a little different from most here

Being a typical Brit i love sport (not soccer...i hate soccer)

I still play Rugby at a competative level even tho i am 43 years young.

I walk an average 4 miles a day for fun (if course the Sheepie comes with me as well)

I shoot 3 times a week at competitions and practice ranges.

I shoot and hunt as much as time allows

But staying fit is my primary goal in life at the moment, still 6ft and 190 lbs, its hard to stay in trim
I love everything OES, and anything to do with animals in general.
I love researching science, art, geneology etc.
I love reading, and write occasionally also, though far less often than I used to.
I love horsebackriding, skiing, snow mobiling, skating, hiking, bike riding, ATV'ing. I love playing soccer, but not watching it, and I love hockey. I can't wait til hockey season finally begins, the Toronto Maple Leafs play their first season game on October 5th, woohoo!!
I also love fast cars.... I don't watch races, other than rally racing, but I love to drive :)

I like rebuilding classic cars.
I love all things Sheepie of course.
Plus i'm just getting into camping.
What bike do you ride, Ste and I do rallies in the summer. Doing the TT next year. My trike is a suzuki madura, putting new handlebars on at present, hopefully gettin a new paint job during winter. luv pepe
Yamaha Fazer 600.
Always liked bikes and at the age of 35 decided to go and get my bike licence :D
fabulous lot harder than car test. Part of car test should include part of bike test. It makes you so much more aware on the roads.
I agree .I think all learner drivers should be put on bikes first.
I can honestly say that i have learnt more in the 4 years i have had my bike than in my 20 years of driving.
