I have a 4 year old sheepdog. The problem is he is not eating. All he will eat is chicken. I have tried different nuts, pasta, mince meat, rice but he refuses to eat any of them. Once again I gave him some chicken and rice and all he ate was the chicken. Does anyone have any ideas because I am very worried about him. Thanks |

Are those foods that you mentioned the ones that you have always fed your sheepdog? Or are you just trying to find something that he'll eat. How long has this been going on. In my experience, sometimes sheepdogs won't eat for a few meals--if they are too hot or when there is a disruption in their lives or routine.
Do you always feed them 'people' food, rather than dog food? If you are worried, then you should take him to your vet. |
I would start with a trip to the vet. I never knew a healthy sheepie to starve himself. If he is hungry enough and there is no medical problem he will eventually eat but I would rule out a medical problem. |
Is there a female around that's in heat? That always took my males mind off of food. They'd pick around at it, but not for long.
Rice and pasta havn't got much of a taste on their own. If the chicken is chunks that may be the problelm. When I've gave my dogs rice I always made sure the meat was fine enough that they had to eat the rice to get the meat. I agree that if you're worried you should consult your vet. |
