Hello!!

:) I'm a girl come form China. My Engling is not well, maybe you can not understand.I just learn English for over 2 years.
I like dogs very much!~~ But I do not have a dog, because my parents can not afford a dog.I want to learn more about show.I want to make friends here also!
I have a cat .She is named aiku. It in chinese means a cat like to cry. She is a lovely cat.
:P
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
In our news papers here there were some articles that said that China was not allowing anyone to own a dog taller than about 35 cm, is that true? Old English Sheepdogs are much larger than 35 cm.
China is very big. Where do you live in China? My brother stayed in Singapore for a few months, but that was years ago.

We do not have a cat now. We used to have a cat with no tail, but I had to find it another home when we moved. But there are people who own Old English Sheepdogs who have cats. Most of my neighbors seem to own cats. Maybe I should get a kitten for Abbi. Then maybe she would quit trying to chase cats.
 yeah, China doesnot want to see big dogs everywhere, you know, most chinese just know a little dogs.So their dogs are noisy, dirty, some of them are not safe to people. But the most important is the money!Chinese just get 100 dollers every month, but if you own a dog ,you have to cost 120 dollers for the ID of dogs, what is worst, after that, your dogs still cannot into the public places, what a pity! And in my home ,Xinjiang, you must cost more money, about 500 dollers.

(My English isn't well,hehe~~~)
You are doing a good job with your English. Keep writing. Maybe someday you can have an Old English Sheepdog or a little dog. The size or breed doesn't matter just have a dog that is right for you and your situation.

Take care.
If you cannot have a dog of your own you have come to the right place. We all love to share our dogs. I am trying to post Abbi's photos of her first bath and clip for 2004! If I can find the photos. I hope I did not delete them.
Your English is much better than my Chinese! :D
Actually I am suppose to know French, Spanish, Castellano, and Texan; but I wouldn't want to actually have to prove that to anyone. Some days just typing in American English is enough of a challenge.
Thank you.I hope I can own a husky someday ,OES is very lovely, but husky is very handsome :P just like a boy
At the age of 12,I owned a chow chow, his name was bobi~We kids all love him.At that time I was a pupil~so I didn't have a lot of homework to do.But now,I am studying in a middle school,I don't have time ,and my parents thought if I own a dog ,I won't study hard. :( So my lovely chow chow had to leave me alone.several weeks later,he's died. :( :( I feel very sad for this.
My daughter is 13 and in our middle school. She has homework every night. She makes straight A's, but is always very stressed. I wish she would play with Abbi more.
She is in a school band. She plays the horn or french horn as I call it. The band director is very strict. So she started her own band. They meet at my house most weeks. She has a clarinet, a bass saxaphone, a baritone, a trumpet, and herself in the band. Oh, sometimes there's this drummer. My husband plays the drums, so the drummer uses those when she comes over. It is a lot a fun.
I am so sorry to hear that your chow died. That is always very sad. I still think of the pets that have died in my life time. I always wonder what I could have done to help them.
Just keep studying. Your English gets better and better. Soon you will graduate. Time goes by faster as you get older.
If you want to see any more photos of OES, I placed another one of Abbi at the pictures topic. I hope you get plenty of study breaks. And pet your cat while you are on the internet. It makes it more fun.
I am two years older than your daughter ,hehe~~ :)
school band??how happy! You family must be very intersting!~
I think your Abbi is beautiful, how old is she or he(sorry, but I really don't know )?
I live in Xinjiang, the western part of China, the weather here is very strange. It's cold in the morning, but turns very warm at noon .It's also very dry,so the fruit here is very sweet becaues there is a lot of sunshine.
what about you?I am very interested in US
You are kind-hearted and friendly person :D Very glad to meet you!
Abbi is a girl. She is 4 years old.
We also have pet zebra finches and a parakeet. I used to have aquariums, but then we had to move to Holland and then to Argentina.

I live in Texas, down towards Mexico. Our weather has been like yours the past few weeks. It is very cool at night and warms up during the day. It has not rained as much as usual, but the grapefruit and oranges are very sweet this year.
15 years old. My older daughter is 21. At 15 years she and I would have disagreements more and more. I guess she was learning to make her own decisions. I guess my 13 year old is starting to grow up also. It is hard to grow up. But it is even harder when you realize you are growing old.
I hope I am interesting. I have had a good and diverse life. People all over the world have helped me. I hope I am able to return their kindness whenever it is possible. That is why I like this forum.
Everybody loves their pets here. It gives us all a common bond. We need more common bonds in this world.
I always dreaming that I have many dogs~huskies,OESs,gordens, and chows.I like horses, too. There are many horses in Xinjiang, they are all strong, handsome and a little wild. :)
I am enjoy my first winter holiday now, this holiday is very short, juet form today to 9th.,only 23 days, but it's better than no holiday.
The most important holiday in China is the Spring Festival. It's coming soon.During the Spring Festival we have a lot of interseting things to do and nice food to eat.I hope I can get many presents~ :D
er~The lord of the rings must be show in your city~~I want to see it soon.
Thank you for your encorage,I did well in my test. :)
That is a beautiful Husky in your photo!

I am glad you did well on your tests. Enjoy your winter holiday. Our winter holiday is only 14-16 days long. Our summer holidays are about 72- 78 days long, but that gets shorter every year.

There were no sheepies in The Return of the King but it is showing in all of the cities close to us with theatres. We do not have a movie theatre in our city, but it is only 15 minutes drive to a city that does have one. We do not like that theatre, so we go all the way to Houston (45 minutes away). But that only happens once every two months or so. It is cheaper to buy the DVD's than go to the movies.

I wish they had gone into more detail about the romance between two of the characters and less detail on Bilbo's leaving with the elves. Also, I wish they could have included the book's ending, where the hobbits go and take back the Shire from the evil wizard. But it is a GREAT movie. We love the added battle scene with the Elephants!!!!
Enjoy. And dream on. My husband doesn't want us to get another dog, but we want a Golden Retriever or a Standard Poodle. I actually wanted a Newfoundland, but we don't have the room -- yet. Maybe when we retire.
For right now I had better go get my family fed.
8) thank you ~~~all huskies are handsome~aren't they?

our city has no DVD yet, maybe several weeks later~ :? yeah ,I think both book and movie is the best~~!! But Legolas is such a beautiful man in the movie  all of my friends love him.so we also like Pirates of the Caribbean. good movies are too much, next holiday I wish I will see all what I want to see~~haha.

Newfoundland?I love this breed. they are beautiful and friendly~~but I have never seen it. I like black ones.my mother think they are too big to keep.Gordens are good choose~

next term we will be busy.because the highschool-test is very important to us,it's very hard, sometimes I am really afraid of it's coming.
The DVD for THE RETURN OF THE KING has not came out yet. It will not be for sale until next August or so I think. Guess I should go check to see when it is going to be available. I went to the movie twice, I liked it so much and it had a lot of details.
The dark highlighting on the gray and white background (or the dark brown on the beige and white background) does give the Husky a very tailored and dignified look.
And Newfoundlands are very large, but I saw one showing this girl how to swim back to shore at a lake. The dog just kept pushing the girl towards shore and then swimming in front of her until she reached shallow waters. It was really amazing to watch.
The girl was not really in trouble, they were just showing what a Newfoundland would do, without any training. The mother says their dog just started pushing the kids back to the side of their swimming pool when they were young. Wouldn't let them swim unless mom or dad was in the water. Sounds like a good dog to own if you have a swimming pool or a pond and children.
Abbi will swim with me, but she doesn't like swimming pools. It is too hard for her to get back out.
My daughter (13) is studying for her SAT test. When you test high enough in 6th grade (12 years old) you get to take the SAT a couple of years early to see how well you do. Later you have to take the test if you want into college (you could take this other test, the ACT). They are both for entry into Universities or colleges here.
So she is very nervous. She is reading every book she can find, practicing math, and taking practice tests. I hope she does well, so she will calm down some.
Whenever I get too nervous about a test I just read a good book. Then review the test material, then finish the book, then review the test material. It gives me a break and gets my mind away from worrying. I can focus better. My daughter says she always does much better nervous than if she is calm. I still think she should give it a rest, i.e., just calm down and think of other things for a little bit.
Good luck on your testing. Just set a goal for reviewing a small amount of material every day or so, then relax and enjoy something for a break. Persistence usually succeeds in the end. I don't think panic ever helped anyone do much of anything. Then again, I am always nervous before I teach a class, but it always turns out fine. Never lost a class yet.
Hi Little rat,

I've enjoyed reading your post. I agree with you Huskies are very handsome dogs while Old English Sheepdogs are usually referred to as "adorable" or "cute". :D

I just wanted to comment you are doing a great job with your english!! I taught ESL for a couple years at a Foreign language school so I'm impressed with your ability at age 12! Good job! (my spelling is pretty good but I'm a lousy typist.)

One day you may have your own home and may be able to get a dog. Last year, I worked with Korean students a few times a week and they too all wanted dogs. They enjoyed reading about them and collecting photos to place on their walls in their bedrooms. I ended up building a lot of my lesson plans around dogs. They read lots of stories and wrote a lot about dogs. I think your research about dogs helped you too with your english so keep it up!

Good luck with your studies and I wish you the best.

Marianne
Are you all teachers? 8O I'm Little rat's friend.also from china.now i am living in Beijing. Once, there's a Newfoundland lives near my office.i saw it couple of times. He's very nice! He is all black, like a bear  and he got gentilesse eyes,i fall in love with him immediately!!
I can't wait to see this movie!!but the price of the ticket must be expensive~
I like husky with gray.
Newfoundlands are liked by children.I watched they swim on the TV ,fast and strong~~ I think they are much better than a man.
My dog liked swimming very much, but he hasn't have chance to try, because there was no pool nearby. :(
agingright~I don't understand why they make the study so hard. I feel tired.I am not good at math and chemistry, but I have to learn it well,it's difficult for me.
I want to be a handler not a scientist. but no matter how,I won't stop study math and chemistry until I into University.even though I hate them.
I am trying to see THE SECRET GARDEN in English to make my English better.
Marianne, thank you for you wish~ :D nice to meet you ~you are very lively~hehe.Do you have a OES also?

Do you know something about James Herriot?I will learn him soon. :P
Can you help me to find out some information about him?Thank you!
I hope I won't disturb you
Littlerat.....I think James Herriot is the author of all of those ALL GOD"S CREATURE"S GREAT AND SMALL books. Not sure, but he was a rural vet in Ireland, I think. He tells the most fascinating stories about dogs and other animals. I wanted to be a vetinarian (vet or animal doctor). I read a lot of books on the subject some 30 years ago. And I do believe a lot of those books were by James Herriot. But it has been 30 years, so I may be getting it all mixed up. If it is the guy I am thinking about, all of his stories are biographical, that is, they were based on his own experiences.
I loved THE SECRET GARDEN. After watching the movie I read the book for the first time. It made me aware of ex-pats ( unless I am getting things mixed up again) for the first time. Strange that I became one later in my life.

I do not like math either. But Chemistry is one of my passions. I received my degree in Biology with a Chemistry minor. I worked in the field of Water and Wastewater Quality control for over 10 years and taught Water Chemistry in college. I am thinking about returning to the university and getting a Masters in Environmental Quality Control or Computer Science. I love fiddling with hardware and software.

My daughter loves math and hates language. You two should get together. I am not sure, but I think if you practice math it is easier because the rules of math are much more reliable than the rules of language.
I had to take Organic Chemistry and Calculus in the university while I was trying to get into the Vetinarian Medical School. I liked Chemistry better than the Calculus, so I know why you probably do not like math.

Do movie ticket prices differ movie to movie? Here, all movies cost the same unless you are a student, senior, or have movie passes. Then you may have to pay FULL price instead of the senior, student or movie pass price to watch the movie.
Yoo ... the Newfoundland I met was black with big, gentle eyes too. And everyone is a teacher, even you. You have taught me that there are some VERY big dogs in Beijing if you met a Newfoundland. And that the world is getting to be a smaller place. People learn new things from communicating with other people. Its good for the mind and spirit.
agingright:
As you know ,the goverment of Beijing did not allow people have dogs taller than 35cm in downtown.so, Golden Retriever , Dalmatian , Collie and so on are forbidden. only one dog for each family.you can walk your dog before 7 a.m. and after 7 p.m.you can not bring your dog into public place such as park, market, hotel, playground, green space.....and some main road.you gotta pay 1000 yuan(120 dollar?)for the dog for the first year, and then 500 yuan for each following years.

there's a large number of people have PREJUDICE on those people who kept dogs.dog owner was thought rich, selfish, have nothing else to do,do not care about family(because they care about dogs more).....

so,it is not easy to keep a dog in beijing.but it's getting better and better.i hope one day i can have a dog of my own.

talk about movie,do you know that dvd in china is very cheap?! 10 dollar for 16 pieces of dvd here in beijing :!: i think maybe this is the greatest thing in beijing
My brother and his wife lived in Singapore for 6 months last year. They keep showing me pearls, computer programs, clothes and movies that they bought while they lived there.
The pearls are gorgeous! The clothes were also very nice. Out of 6 computer programs that my brother bought, 5 of them worked great and were $10 each. We are talking about programs that run a hundreds of dollars here. The program that did not work, does not work very well here either, because I bought it here and cannot get it to work.
The DVD's were not as good as what I had bought here. Although my sister in-law speaks 6 languages, so all of the ones in Indonesian seem very well done. Some of them looked like they were transferred via camera.

Actually, some American pet owners seem to like their dogs better than people here. But we always think that is good, because it keeps those types of people occupied. If they are busy, they don't fuss with my children so much.
I love my family and my pets. If animal doctors get much more expensive I guess I will have less pets so I can take care of my family. My family will always come first and Abbi will always be cared for somehow because now she is family. But I limit how much I pay for my childrens' care, so I feel it is only right to limit how much I spend on my dog.
Here we have to pay $10 per year to register our dog with the city. They will not register the dog unless it has rabbi's vaccination and a check-up, which runs about $45 per year. Then there's a parasite here called a heartworm which will kill your dog, so that's another $20 for testing and $120 per year for a preventative. Anything else adds to the bills (like vaccinations for distemper, kennel cough, flea and tick preventatives, ....).
I think we make a bit more than you do and our housing is cheaper. When I was poorer, it was very hard to pay for the above registration and shots, so sometimes I would just not do it. You do what you can when you can. We are not prosecuted heavily for not obeying every law, so it makes a lot of things possible. Bad and Good. Like the internet.
how honest you are! :P
you know what, every designer who comes from abroad in our company, they bought a lot of cds ,dvds and some may buy the moveable-disk,before they went home.you earn more so you had to pay more in US,right?

i saw a cartoon named Doggy Poo,last night.it was sooo sweet.you have to see it!
agingright~~ :)
Thank you for your help.yeah, James Herriot is a vet. I want to read the books are written by him.so far,I haven't seen the books in our bookshop yet.but I think maybe Beijing has.
I haven't seen the movie THE SECRET GARDEN also,it's an old movie,I can't find the VCD.

I think Chemistry is not very easy, and I don't like my chemistry teacher,he likes smoking, does everything slowly, his homework is easy, but his test is very hard.I always failed.

Pirates of Caribbean is showing in our city now,I watched it twice, hehe.Orlando Bloom is very very handsome,do you like him?

my cat let me lose face yesterday, there were many guests in my home.they all wanted to see Aiku,so I called her,she did not only come to say hello ,but also shouted loudly and last long time in her room.bad cat~

yesterday evening,I watch the 1st MISS DOG,that's very interesting, those dogs were great ,especally SWEETPEA ,haha, even my mother likes her.
My daughter is very upset with me. We do not have cable or DISH, so we do not see a lot of programs. We get 6 english chanels, 4 spanish channels, 1 shopping channel, and 3 church channels(religious stuff only). So I haven't seen either program or cartoon you have mentioned.

I saw Pirates of Carribean at the movies and loved it! My husband and girls loved it too. Then we went on a 7 day cruise to Mexico and Belize. Well, the seas in theGulf of Mexico were VERY rough. They(the ship's crew) emptied the swimming pools and cancelled the shows, it was that rough. And what were they showing on their "intra ship cable"? Pirates of the Carribean. After watching it about 4 times, we never bothered to buy the DVD. I think my daughter Teresa has it memorized. It's a good movie, but don't watch it too much or it gets old. I guess that is true for any movie.

Since I do not get cable or Dish I buy videos and DVD's. They run anywhere from $5 to $25 for the DVD's Videos are about $5-$15, depending if they are new or old releases. We can buy TV series by the season and those will run about $10 an episode or show.
Yes, you generally have to pay more if your population makes more, but that is not always true. Depends on volume of sales also. Since Americans will buy something at the drop of a hat, a lot of things get cheaper after their first release, cheap enough that even the poor can afford them. Also our libraries will let you borrow books, videos, DVDs, and computer games for free as long as you return them.
The SECRET GARDEN is only available as a video tape here, I think. I will check in a minute and edit this if I am wrong.
Chemistry can be as difficult as math if you do not pracitce it. You must make models of the molecules -- even out of paper. The water molecule is sooo interesting. One of the reasons almost any inorganic will dissolve in it is because how it is put together. The hydrogens are always at 105 degree angles from the oxygen because of their positive "charges". The two hydrogen repel each other because they are both positive. The Oxygen attracts the two hydrogen as close as possible because of its double negative charge. The space left in between the hydrogen and the oxygen allows for other elements and molecules to fit in that 105 degrees worth of space, including oxygen molecules---which is how fish can get oxygen out of water. Chemistry ROCKS!
Your teacher just isn't very good. He should give you lots of practice in your homework. You and your friends should be referring to your drinks, food, and household cleaners by their chemical names. Familiarity makes everything easier. Salt is NaCl. Sugar is made up of Carbon and Hydrogen so they are called carbohydrates. Water is h2o of course. Just come up with other descriptive terms and it will help. The math of chemistry is a bit more dificult, but it is just adding and subtraction. Orbital discussion should start with the introduction of an atom as an universe of its own. The Nucleus could be the sun with the planets being electrons all with their different orbits.
Chemistry is even better if you get into the kitchen and try to figure out what chemical procces is taking place when you steam, fry, or bake your food. All cooking is CHEMISTRY. That's why girls make the BEST chemist.
Stay with it and forget about your teacher. See if your parents or relatives can help you. Take any book or notes you have. If you have the tests you have already taken, look them over and see what they emphasized and try to 'guess" what will be emphasized on the next test. Usually there is a pattern if you look hard enough.
Good luck.
And don't be too hard on your cat. Cats do not like lots of people poking them and trying to pick them up. To get your cat to come when you call, start giving it a treat when it comes to you and say the word for come. Then go to another room and call it to come. If it comes, give it a special treat. If it doesn't, don't worry. Just keep it up and some day you will have a very loyal cat that will come every time you call it and you will never lose face again!
I am not going to tell you how many times Abbi has embarrassed me or made me lose face! But I do love her!
An interesting finding re: atomic structures and our ability to image them:
