Is there any particular reason he needs to be shaved? |
Can't they leave him in a puppy cut? About 1/2 to 1" long? Or does he have be shaved down to the skin?
Personally, I like the puppy cut. Easier to take care of. JMHO. Chris |
You know, I guess it boils down to how active you are feeling. If you think that you will want to groom a hairy sheepie, then keep him longer, but if you want to have some free time in your life, shave him! I think they are cute either way, just different. And, really, Pooh is just a beautiful boy so he'll look great no matter what.
My dad always used to make me sad when he would take our sheepdog in to get shaved, or even puppy cut. I would say, Dad! She looks so pretty long! And he would say, Do you want to groom her? And I would say, I'd love to Dad, but I have school and sports and a life, etc. But, she just got back from the groomer yesterday and she is beautiful and in a long coat for her! |
For my own curiosity to see what a black oes cross looks like in full coat, I would love it if you didn't shave him! LOL
I'm curious to see how long his coat will actually get....lol... |
I ditto, Stacey. I have been so excited to see Pooh in a longer coat. Although, he is absolutely handsome in a puppy cut.
I love the look of a sheepie in full coat, and left mine in full coat for 2 years, and really thought I would never shave them, but then a lot of hard times with family hit, and we shaved them both. We have really enjoyed the break of constant grooming. It actually took a long time for Jack and Annie to be okay with the shaving, they really hated it at first. If you have the time to upkeep Pooh's coat then long I say, and if you don't I can't wait for new Pooh pics in his new doo!! Stormi and co. |
I'm with Chris - we go with a 1 inch puppy cut, that way he's still a little fluffy but easy to take care of. |
I am growing Griz out after a short cut he looks so cute fluffy.I think if you get a hair cut only take off enough to help maintain a nice coat with out to much work good luck and I would Love to see a picture of his new do. |
i have an 12 month old oes guiness- he has just been shaved for the first time and i cant believe it he looks like a grey hound i didnt realise how thin he was now im wishing i should have left him what made it worse is that the groomers have shaved him down to the bone the only good thingis that they is no hairs coming off him he used to mult like mad |
Didn't shave, and I'm glad, cause it's a nice length so far. We'll see what happens by winter! Am going to have to keep the hair around his eyes trimmed tho....or I guess we'll berett him and see what happens! |
Yeah!
Josh--if you barette him, make sure to use 'manly' barettes. Clyde wore red ones, but they looked pink, so he got made fun of... |
I would like to see what he looks like long haired..besides winter is coming.. |
Looks like to me the vote is not to shave. Does he still have puppy hair? |
If your little guy got razor burn -- I would seriously look for another groomer. My guy also cut way too close (especially down under cry: ) and was miserable! I found another groomer (a group of women!) who are very careful. |

I would get him on a better food perhaps, and look into some health issues if he is thin and was shedding like that. He shouldn't really shed at all, other than about the amount of hair you would expect to come off your own head when you brush or the occasional fuzzball. |
Definately still has some puppy hair.....it's Sooooooo soft! |
