It's got to cool down sometime, right?

Here in Mississippi (and the rest of the South, I imagine), it's still SO warm. Today, we had cloudy skies, rained on & off (thanks to Rita's feeder bands), and it still managed to get up to 90 degrees with 83% humidity - made for eerie feeling weather since we've been under a tornado watch most of the day. It was miserable today. It's been nearly 100 every day for the past week or so.

I had to laugh at a friend of mine. She sent me an e-mail and said she had to turn her heat on yesterday. I just couldn't imagine it right now. I wish we were - I love cold weather. :)

It has been a long hot summer everywhere I think. Our weather is usually only in the low to mid 70's at the hottest point of the summer, maybe 80 for a few days in July, but this year it has been in the 90's, up to 115 all summer with so little rain that we've lost half of our crops. It is finally cooling down here this week at night, it went down to 35 last night.
That's cold enough for snow but it is just rainy today.
I don't think we're going to get snow until quite late this year.... another blow to the economy here since most of us are winter-sport oriented. Snow mobiling, skiing, skating, tobogganing etc.... we have tons of ski resorts all over the place, scattered in the mountainous regions who are losing money day by day that these warm temps persist.
Not to mention of course that in the arctic the glaciers are melting, and more huge chunks have broken off this year than has ever been recorded, because of the higher ocean current temps. Rising water levels in those areas just make the melting worse. I may be wrong on this stat, but I think I heard on the news or read somewhere that 12 chunks the size of Rhoad Island or bigger have broken off this year? I might be wrong on that one, I'll have to look it up....
It was cooler toda BUT we've been under a tornado warning pretty much since noon. We've had 5-6 different ones today. I saw two funnel clouds from my window. MSU campus has had a good bit of damage. Scary day! Darn these hurricanes.
Here in the Southwest our weather has been hot longer than usual. We're still breaking triple digits, we should be back in the 90s and before y'all laugh it does make a big difference :) ! It has cooled down in the evenings which is nice but I'm looking forward to being able to go out for walks before sunset!
I can't wait for it to cool down. The weather channel says the average temp for VA in Sept. is 78-79 degrees. It has been in the upper 70s 1 time this month so far. On Friday it was 97. On the news 7 day weather outlook it always has 89, 88, 92, etc. and then at the very end of the 7 days it shows lower temps, but as each day approaches those temps go up and it remains hot! They say...that it's going to cool off today so that it will only be in the low 80s later in the week...I just want to feel comfortable! (Plus, my office is freezing and it is HOT outside, so it makes dressing for the day difficult.)
Gail, I hear you with the tornadoes and hurricanes. Last year, when we had several hurricanes come near VA, we were always on the eastern side, which is the more volatile side, so we had our fair share of tornadoes/tornado warnings...It's been quieter up here this year so far...
It's been in the 90's here most of the summer here in upper NYS. But now it has been cooling down. 80's last week and this week low 70's with nights in the 40-50 range. Had the air on yesterday. 81 with 90% humidity. Have to keep my guys cool. Today it is raining hard. We expect 2" and flooding. Thanks to Rita. I am not complaing at all. Could be much worse. Like the Gulf. Soon the leaves will be changing. My favoriate time of the year. :D
The leaves are already mostly changed here, and a lot are bare already...lol...
It's been typical fall weather here, with that cold snow feeling coming. I had to scrape the frost off the window two mornings ago. Not looking forward to winter, it helps if you enjoy winter activites but when you don't it's long and dull.
My son had the day off of school, so he and his dad took the boat out. Still feels like summer. Way too hot!
It just amazes me at how different the temperatures can be. Here we are in most of the States sweltering, and up in Canada they are already scraping frost off and the trees are becoming bare.
We had "near frost" yesterday morning and today it's barely 60!!
