We have a ton too. I give them to my parents and they can them and make pear perserves... |
MMmmmm... I love pears.... the only things I can think of to use them for other than eating fresh are something like apple crisp but with pears, my kids also like them baked with a caramel sauce. |
You can also mix them with sweet potatoes and make mashed sweet potatoes. Mmmmm good.
It's 2 pears for every 4 sweet potatoes. Peel (potatoes and pears), boil until soft, drain and blend together with mixer. You can add some brown sugar and cinnamon to taste. Usually you only need a tiny bit. |
I've never liked the thought of mixing fruits and vegetables...lol... except of course in the case of tomatoes.... I really don't understand why they are classified as a fruit not a vegatable. LOL |
How about Pear Butter. I've never made it myself, but I've made lots of apple butter and bet you could make it the same way. If interested I'll give you the details on apple butter made in your oven. email me. |

PEAR SMOOTHIES!!! Yumm... I love fruit season, smoothies galore! You can also use pears as a side while roasting poulty or pork- use them like you would carrots or other veggies, and place them in/around the meat. You can also poach pears, yummy as a desert, but I don't know the recipe off the top of my head... All I remember is that they turned purple because we poached them in red wine. Pears are also good cut into little pieces and topped with vanilla ice cream, and maybe a little caramel sauce, mmm....

Why not just can them? It's easy to do and you can control the amount of sugar for the syrup. Pear chutney would be good too. |
you can also poach them in jello for the kids, strawberry and cherry work really good |
Last night Emeril was doing a show on Fall harvest and I know he did some stuff with pears, so you could always go to the food network website. Epicurious.com has some good recipes in general too... |
Thanks I watch him too but not last night grrrrr |
