My Little Escape Artist

My precious Genevieve, aka Escape Artist, has done it again!

Sunday morning I took them both for a long walk on the beach. They really loved it. It was fun for them to chase the sandpipers out into the water. They really wanted to be off leash, but it wasn't allowed.

After we walked back up to the house (about 50 yards), I decided it would be nice for us to sit out on the deck for awhile so they could dry off some. I'd put them both in the house for a moment while I pulled a crate out to block the steps so they couldn't go anywhere.

Well, I opened the door to the house and turned around, took two steps to get the crate, and my little escape artist took off behind me, bumped open the screen door, darted across the deck, down the steps, across the dune and out onto the beach as fast as four feet could carry her! :x

The little skunk sneaked up on three ladies who were sunbathing and startled them (thankfully they had their tops on! 8O ). Then she played "keep away" with me...darting past me and around me as I dove into the sand to catch her. I declare she was laughing at me the whole time.

Seems like she's been with me forever. I can't believe it's only been a little over two months!

Just when you think they love to be by your side, they want to show off.

I had a similar situation on Saturday, but it was a bit more frightening. I took my little Reba to my son's baseball game. She had a wonderful time greeting the children and shaking her booty in front of everyone and had no problems with her what-so-ever.

When the game was over, I was loading her into the side of the SUV just as my son was opening the full back door. (I've told him a 100 times to just use the window part, but kids are worse than dogs when given a command.) Well, you guessed it....Reba jumped right out the back of the car like a bolt of lightning and into the alley where the rest of the cars were pulling out. My ex-husband pulled right out in front of her and almost hit her. As if I didn't have enough reasons to dislike him, this one would have certainly did him in.

I tried to remain calm as I called her, but she must have sensed the worry in my voice and was very confused with all the commotion. We managed to coax her back into the grass area away from the cars. Eventually, someone grabbed her leash for me and I was almost in tears when I got her back into my arms.

I never would have believed she would bolt like that. But I admit it - I should have had better control of the situation and learned a very important lesson that day.
Bless your heart! That was scary!

So glad it all turned out okay!! :D
Glad to hear both Genevieve and Reba survived their unsupervised outings without any harm. It's amazing how they can be so clingy one minute, and completely distracted and across the yard (or park, or beach..) at a moment's notice.
Tammy,
I am sure the site of you diving into the sand was hysterical.
I am also sure Genevieve got a kick out of it too.
Glad she was ok.
crazy4sheepdogs,
That must have been really scary. I am glad to hear she was ok.
Pepsi ran off on me last week... I was so nervous. I saw him heading toward the main road and my heart sank. Luckily when I called his name he stopped dead in his tracks. I had to pretend to be leaving him for him to come back
Elissa
It is the most amazing thing how FAST they can go when they wish. To
look at most of our guys you would never guess that they can move
like lightening, especially when they know they aren't supposed to be
running off!

I know how your heart just skips a few beats when you realize they are
escaping. Thank goodness it all turned out ok for both of you!
