Is there a website that lists them? |

I have been to Pup Town and think that one is great. Right off Lawrence, Lake Shore and Marine Drive. People and dogs are usually pretty well behaved, though that is only taken from our visits when we are in Chicago on a weekend. |
I live in Elgin and take Izzie to one out in St. Charles. I know there is a large one in Pratt Wayne Woods in Wayne. There is also one in Addison...I think. A lot of them are in forest preserves and you can look them up through each county...just call the forest preserve main number and ask about off leash dog areas. I know the St. Charles one is on Park District property. So maybe call park districts too. Each one has different rules...some you have to join and there is a fee...so be sure to check this before driving all the way there.
Hope this helps!! Amanda |
Thanks for the link.
Amanda - what is the one in Saint Charles like? Is it fenced in? Is there a fee? I'm in Glendale Heights and that's not too far from me. |
The dog park in St. Charles is not too big, but big enough. There is no fee. It is part of a Park District complex so there are soccer/football fields all around. The dog park is fenced in. Part of the ground is covered in mulch, and the rest is grass and dirt. There are a few large trees that provide shade, and a couple of picnic tables for the humans to hang out at. There are a few pieces of "playground equipment" and a doggy water fountain...no human water fountain so bring your own if it is hot.
It might be a distance from you, though, because it is in the far west part of St. Charles. To get there you take North Avenue west past Randall Road. A slight left on Campton Hills Road (I think that is the name) and follow that through a stop sign and the park/sports complex is on the left. The name is Campton Hills something. I have heard rumors of an Irish Wolfhound or two that go there, but never seen them myself. I would love to see Izzie's reaction to them. Amanda |
Excellent! I think we'll take him over there on Sunday! Thanks for the directions! |
We usually go on Sunday's so maybe we will see you there!!

Oh excellent, we'll probably head out there around 1! |
We didn't make it out becaue of the rain, maybe in the next couple of weeks! |
I don't know if you're still looking for Dog Parks -- but we frequently go to East Branch -- part of the DuPage Forest Preserves, right in Glendale Heights. All of the Forest Preserve parks require a permit -- here's a link to the forms/fees page (just scroll down a bit to see dog permits)

Here is a link for Illinois dog parks:
http://www.doggeek.com/Dog%20Parks/Illinois.shtml Also, there's a great one that isn't listed: It's called Schweitzer Woods, run by the Kane County Forest Preserve. It's in West Dundee, about a mile west of Spring Hill Mall. Take route 72 to the intersection with Sleepy Hollow Rd headed north and turn onto Sleepy Hollow. The first drive on the left, marked by two large rocks, is the Schweitzer estate-- though it isn't marked except with tiny "Kane County Forest Preserve" signs. Go up the drive to the house, a kennel is to the right and the dog park gate is just to the right of that. The park is about 5 acres, 2 fenced-in areas, one is filled with brush and woods, the other is neatly mowed. Bring water and poop bags! |
There is a little known dog park in West Chicago in Reed Keppler park behind the baseball fields. Although it is small, it has a limited agility course which many other dog parks do not have. The park district does require a fee.
