Oh my goodness, this little boy is so beautiful, I want him!! I hope he gets adopted soon |
|
OH is he ever! |
OMG! He is soooo cute...No Out of states adoptions! I hope someone scoops him up quickly... |
Hey Everyone. About the OES in the KS shelter... He is in a shelter about 20 minutes from our house here in Kansas. We went to meet him yesterday, and brought Hamlet. our 9 yr old sheepie. Izzy is a bi-eyed ball of fluff with personality plus! I love him already. My concern is that he is walking funny, but was just neutered so that may be why (I would walk funny, too!) The shelter vet is going to ck him out tomorrow. I hope it is not his hips causing his gait to be off. We need to know what medical issues he may have before bringing him home. I'll keep you posted!
KS hugs to all your sheepies! |
By the way, our sheepie Hamlet was totally laid back with the pup, not even any "who the heck are ya" sniffing. It was like they knew each other already! |
Good luck!! I so hope he's healthy and finds a wonderful home with you and Hamlet. I'll keep my fingers crossed. |
Good luck Mrs. Columbo! I can't wait to hear all about them! |
This seems like a really supportive group. Thanks so much for all your comments.
Can I ask for some opinions on Rescue vs. reputable breeder. We have been hoping to get a lambluv dog sometime in the next year. And along comes this guy, and he is adorable, and I fell hard for his royal sheepiness! I know there are others who could love him... and I could wait and get a lambluv in the Spring or later like I'd planned... but there he is, in the shelter... just waiting... and Hamlet and I have so much time and love to give. I will be there tomorrow at 11 when the shelter opens to see what the vet said about his gait. Thanks for all your comments. |
Welcome to the forum, Mrs. Columbo, and thank you so much for rescuing Izzy!!
As for my opinion on rescue vs. breeder, all 3 of our sheepies have been rescues. We've never gone the puppy route, so I don't have any advice for you there. Of course, when you rescue, you always take a chance on their health, like you're finding out about Izzy's gait. But on the plus side, at 4 months old, Izzy may already be housebroken, or at least well on the way. And the love you get from a rescue is like nothing else. Pure and unconditional. Good luck with Izzy! And there's no hard and steadfast rule that says you have to stop at 2 sheepies! If you still want a lambluv puppy, go for it!! Can't wait for pictures and stories! Chris |
I'm impressed with your insight into the pups health. I would be too smitten with his face to notice him walking. I hope it works out well for you, he looks adorable! Please keep us posted, I plan to keep an eye on this topic to see how it all goes. |
I just got a call from the shelter that Izzy has a bad infection at his neuter site. Poor baby - no wonder he was walking funny. He is on antibiotics, and "off view" for now. Brenda at the shelter said she is unsure how long his treatment course will be, but she will keep me posted. I went to sleep last night and woke up this am thinking about the little guy. Thanks so much for your comments. What an awesome group our sheepies have rounded up! |

Hope Izzy feels better soon! Please keep us posted, good luck with adopting the adorable Izzy. He looks like a sweetheart ! Best Wishes! |

Can I ask for some opinions on Rescue vs. reputable breeder. We have been hoping to get a lambluv dog sometime in the next year... but there he is, in the shelter... just waiting... and Hamlet and I have so much time and love to give. I had also been thinking about getting a puppy from a breeder but I am so thrilled that I chose to rescue my dog Chumley. I have a total honey of a dog (we all do!) plus the added satisfaction of knowing she really needed a home and a second chance. And there is something oddly cool about not really knowing all the things she has seen or experienced. Gives an air of mystery to the developing relationship. It is very obvious when she has not experienced something -- I took her in an elevator recently and she looked like she was just blown away. Izzy looks completely adorable. I can't believe he was wandering stray. I really hope his infection clears up. What a sweetie of a dog. I am sending good vibes to both of you and to Hamlet (about whom I hope we will all learn more!!) |
The pups condition could have been so much worse, I know he'll come through on this health issue.
I too can't believe he was a stray! |
Izzy is well enough to come home with us!! The shelter vet put him on antibiotics and pain meds and said to just watch him carefully. No worries there... he will be watched, cuddled, snuggled, admired, sighed over, and totally looved... and if necessary, taken to our awesome vet of course. I am giddy with joy!!! Never mind the rescue vs breeder option. Our baby is coming home!!! I will send pictures. Hugs to all. |
Yeah! How exciting! I can't wait for pictures...And who knows...maybe a lamluv will come later... |
How great!!!
Mrs Columbo, just a quick answer to you other question. I have done rescue and now have a puppy. I love Fergie so much, but I get so much joy from our 3 rescues. THey are so loving. Some how I think they know you took them out of bad homes and gave them a new life. I know not all rescues are from a bad backround. Just happens we got 3 like that who are happy campers now. Good Luck, I am so happy for you. |
YAY! Give a scratch and a rub behind the right ear for me, and behind the left ear for Joan please!
Does this count as another oes.org arranged adoption? Is anyone keeping count? I haven't been, but it seems like we're matching people and dogs up very frequently lately. |

We are HOME!!! "Izzy" is still uncomfy from his infection. But so good natured about it all, and Hamlet is totally unphased. We are in LOOOVE!! Izzy will be renamed. Here are a few possibilities:
Winston Churchill Darwin Fouts (We're originally from San Diego and are still Chargers fans) or Henry. He is darling. And Hamlet is amazingly laid back about it all. Hugs to all and I will send pictures tonight!! |
How great is this!!!
Congrats to all and may Sir Winston Churchill Darwin Fouts Henry have a long happy life with you & Hamlet! Yay! |
YAY!!!! Congratulations! I'm sooo glad that Izzy (or whatever his future name may be) is home! That is so fantastic. I cannot wait to see more pictures of him and read about his adventures. I am so utterly thrilled that this wonderful boy has found a wonderful family.
So, to follow up with Ron's question, did you find him on Petfinder or follow the link I posted at the beginning of this thread? Whatever the way you found him, I am so glad we got to be involved along the way. |
Good for you for rescueing a furkid! |

To be totally honest, I originally found him on petfinder. But, all your encouragement and support helped make my decision to adopt him (instead of buy a puppy in the spring) an easy one. So, I think he is definitely another OES.org rescue! I feel so blessed, lucky, and happy!!! The thing that surprises me most is how mellow Hamlet is about it all, at least so far! Now, he is the senior statesman and can show the puppy (he still hasn't told us what his name is) the ropes. Well, it could be a looong night. But I don't care. I am so happy. |
Yay! How about something that goes with Hamlet, like Claudius or something-- Claude for short. I always like Winston though. We had a Winston for years!
Congratulations to you and Hamlet! |
Claudius is such a great name! Thank you for the suggestion. We are having a family meeting tonight, and we hope the little one will tell us his name then!
Hamlet and "pup-pup" (as he is being called until he tells us his name) are doing pretty well. They were just sleeping side by side, then pup-pup got a little too snuggly and Hamlet gave him a little low growl. I am just letting them hang out and establish their relationship. Last night went well. Pup-pup slept soundly in his crate right next to my bed, and I took him out twice to go potty in the night. He has kennel cough in addition to his wound infection. I gave him robitussin last night, and will be taking him in for a recheck at the end of the week (sooner if needed!) I feel so blessed that this little guy adopted us, and that I found this group. I am taking a picture with my camera phone and will attach it to my profile. Pup-pup has a cone head on as he's been licking his incision. |
What great news! Many, many thanks for adopting Pup-Pup. Sounds like he's fitting in just great, and how great is it that Hamlet isn't jealous?? You have the best of all worlds!
Can't wait to see pictures! Chris |
Okay, how many times a day does a puppy usually poop? Hamlet usually goes once a day. Just not sure if I should wait for him to "go" after every meal or ? So far, one pee pee accident on the carpet. But it was my fault. I didn't take him out right after he ate. |
Congrats on your new puppy
He will be fine once he's home with him new mommy. Lets us know how you are doing. Just a quick note, I have rescued 3 so far and now have a puppy. As much as I love Fergie I get much joy from my rescues. They love you more I think because you are giving them a new start maybe from a bad beginning. Good Luck! |
Did you get your OES? can't wait to see pics of him. Hope he is getting better. Much Luck and best wishes go out to you! |
You look so happy! What a great avatar!! Sounds like a house filled with love. I personally like the name Henry and think it sounds nice with Hamlet. |
When I was growing up we had a male Izzy...short for Isadore Benjamin. We also had his brother from the same litter...Jake...Jacob Alexander.
I now have a female Izzie...short for Isabella...no middle name yet. I know that your Izzy or whatever you rename him will be very loved and happy in his new home. Hope you post more pics soon!! Amanda |
GO CHARGERS!
The 2 boys are so cute! I hope they continue to get along so well! As a San Diegan myself (temporarily displaced) I vote for Fouts! (Or, what about Murphy, for Jack Murphy Field--better than Qualcomm!) I had the biggest crush on Dan Fouts' son--we had a few history classes together in college... |
Hows the new baby doing, Good Luck |

I think that's the name!! Jack Murphy. Puppup is nodding his head enthusiastically. You know how you just know when it's right? Jack Murphy.... definitely. Thank you for telling us his name! Jack Murphy. That is soooo cute. Maybe Jack Murphy will bring the Chargers luck! |
This is so exciting Another happy ending, good luck! |
Yeah! I'm so glad I could help! Give Jack Murphy a run for me and Barney!
And you know the Chargers need all the luck they can get!! |
That was me, logged in as a guest.
Jack Murphy, Hamlet and I are doing fine today! He's only had that one accident on the first night here. He is so smart, and a total goofball. |
How about the name Horatio? It goes with Hamlet. Horatio is my favorite character in any book. |
IS he home Yet???
waiting to see pics LOL |

waiting to see pics LOL He is home! He is recovering nicely from his infection. He still coughs occasionally - robitussin at bedtime helped. You can see Jack Murphy and Hamlet in my profile picture. Let me see if I can figure out how to insert more pictures... |
Just got to read your post. Congratulations on your new baby!! He's so cute! Thank you for rescuing this little darling! You'll never be sorry -he'll repay you many times over in LOVE!!! |
I'm late as always
Another rescue angel in our midsts !!!! I'm glad to hear everything is working out so wonderfully, and yes you are truely an angel for giving this little guy a warm and loving home. Four months old is awfully small for being left on your own, how scary it must have been for him. But now he's home and safe with his new family! No more scary nights for him and he knows it and will show you in sooo many ways. |
Thanks so much for the support. We love our little guy. After a family vote, his name is Paddington Da Bear. He is still recovering from the kennel cough but his infection is better! Progress!! He's so smart, too. He's quite good about his potty manners, and knows sit, down, and shake. He's a doll. I can't wait till he's all healthy.
