I hope not!
Bentley's eaten them all from my driveway and there was a bumper crop this year! |
I know there are alot. He, Chauncy must have gotten tried of going out to get them because yesterday he came running in the house with a whole branch in his mouth. |
Anything CAN be harmful. Acorns aren't easily digested and could block the intestinal tract, especially if swallowed whole.
As far as nutritionally good or bad, I've not seen much to suggest that acorns are bad for dogs. I have seen them on an extremely extensive list that listed them along with the leaves of the oak tree. Deer certainly love acorns! All in all, better safe than sorry. I would try to prevent ingestion of acorns and if my dog had eaten one, I'd be on the phone with my vet. Good luck! |
Hi Ron, Just got off the phone with the vet and she said the same thing you did about the blockage possibility. Also said there is an acid in them that can cause vomiting and diarrea. Looks like I'll be spending my evenings picking up acrons |
My brother lives on a street called Oakwood. Guess what kind of trees are on that street? When you walk down that street in the fall you take your life into your hands -- a protective hat is a must, and don't take a car you care about there, either... they're bouncing off the roof constantly. These are all very mature trees 50 feet tall and more, and those acorns fall quite a distance. I parked my motorhome overnight "in season" once, and it sounded like gunfire all night long.
Good luck! |
Well, at least Bentley chews them thoroughly before eating them... |
There are so many acorns here in Ontario as well this year! Luckily the boys are not interested in them! We live in a heavily wood property so we are being bombarded with the acorns! The only problem we have is when we are on our walks, the acorns fall from the trees and poor Murphy keeps looking around for the "enemy" in the forest! Of course The Gooch trots happily along unless one hits him!
It's a wee adjustment having a dog that hears again! |
