It probably won't be done till next week... a friend is doing the work for me, and while he is ten times cheaper than a shop, he also works full time and can only get to it on weekends and after work for a little bit. He's hoping to pull the engine out today, and might go pick up the new engine if he has time. If not, then he'll pick up the new engine tomorrow. I'm really hoping I have my car back by the weekend. Woohooo!!!! LOL Ok, time to get ready for work.... lol.... |

I'd be thrilled to have my baby (the car) working like a champ again! |
Oh thank goodness Stacey...Its about time!!!!! Yeah for the wheel....where are you going to go to first???? |
How great for you! I know it's been difficult to do without. Crossing my fingers it's finished by the weekend! |
What kind of car is it? (I know not really following the conversation, just curious.) |
Yay Stacey! VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! |

It's a POC Seriously though, it's an old 1992 Sundance. Anyone from Ontario will know what a pain in the butt it is for us to get a car on the road, if buying used there are huge taxes that must be paid to the governement upon transfer of ownership, certification, E testing, plates, stickers... blah blah blah. Well, we had already invested a lot to buy what we thought was a good deal. We wanted to not have car payments for leasing or purchasing new for a while, to save up a downpayment on a home so we bought this old junker a year and a half ago. It's worthless, but it's already certified, e tested, plated, in my name etc... so it was either fix it, or buy another and go through it all over again. The rest of the car is in relatively good shape, so I opted for a new engine. We seriously considered buying new, and almost did in March. We were approved through Chrysler for a mini van, but then decided not to go for it. It turned out a week or something later I was told my job was shutting down. I was glad then that I didn't buy it, but then my job never did shut down, so now I wish we had.... My favorite vehicles are Mazda's.... anything fast really...lol.... but at this point I'd drive a golf cart. LOL |

With the recalls on Mazdas and all the problems they're having on the Rx8s, it's a lot cheaper to fix! 2 different friends of ours bought brand new RX8s, the engines went and Mazda refused to cover it despite the warranty. They told both people that "it was their fault." Now I get a lecture every time I suggest that I like the Mazda 3! I rented one and it's a great dog transport vehicle. |
I can't imagine how tough it would be with no car. I had to get a u joint put in my truck last weekend and couldn't drive for 2 days. I'm on the road a lot, I've put 80.000 miles on a 2 year old truck already. Stacey, how did you not go insane? |

Who said I was sane? |
AHA!!
That explains it! |
I used to sell Mazda's. |
I had a Mazda that we had pretty good luck with, one of my neighbors is still driving it.
Bestdogs-I know what you mean about on the road alot. I have a four year old truck with almost 200,000 on the odometer right now. Better hurry and get it paid for or it will die before it is paid off. |
Just about to hit 70k miles on my wife's Protege. Runs like a champ. |
Yeah, Stacey--watch out, back on the road soon!
My husband wants a golf cart... We were in the market for a 'new' car a few weeks ago, but for what we can afford, you can't really get much! We asked, so, what do you have for this amount, and they pretty much had to turn away so we wouldn't see them laughing. We eventually found a Kia something for our price range. We tried to start it and it wouldn't. They jumped it for us. Then, we took it out for a spin, and it started shaking at about 60 on the freeway. We put a down payment on it--all it had to do was go through their inspections...it didn't pass--they sold it for parts! So, we had to pay to fix my husband's car...(it was my thought that we should do that anyways...) |

No, I didn't mean to imply that there was anything wrong with every Mazda car. I was just saying the RX8 seems to have been having a lot of problems-- rotary engines aren't exactly mass market at this point time. That car in particular, suffered quite a few recalls because its performance numbers, well, were just wrong. They didn't match up to what was promised. They overestimated the dyno numbers of what the car could do. And as most people would agree, if you're paying for performance, and especially if you race or even just run your car on a track, you want those numbers to hold up. Because both of our friends had the same problem, they won't let anyone even suggest a Mazda around them! This was last year's model though. Didn't mean to offend any Mazda drivers. |

"I don't want no darn Rotary Engine, nor any Wankel. I want to go straight, and I want a straight car." 1)"Rotary" in New England = "Traffic circle" in rest of country, "Roundabout" in England 2) Wankel... well, it's just a malaprop Ok, I was just bored. |
