All that changed for me this weekend..I realized Holly quit a few days before Darcy and I, and probably was at the three week hurdle. For some reason and this is according to the literature I've been reading on line there are certain "hurdles" that those trying to quit have to surpass to achieve a final break. The first 24 hrs The first 3-5 days The third week Six months First 24 hrs are tough but if you can manage to abstain you're on your way. Three to Five days for the nicotine to start leaving your system..cravings are less afterwards. Third week ..for some reason cravings may start up again at this time..if one can make it chances are they are on the road to quitting for good. Six months..Literature has shown that those that make it to the six month period will remain smoke free for the rest of their lives..80-90% is what researchers say. Keep it up Holly and Darcy!! Lets repeat the mantra....we can do it...we can do it..or whatever you guys say to yourselves. Mine is I'm tougher than you ..(referring to my previous habit and not you guys..ha ha) Marianne |

My wall was at six weeks. Then the thought crept into my head: "I can never have another cigarette again for as long as I live." I immediately lost the battle and started smoking again.
I told that story to a motivational speaker, and he told me: "Ron you had it all wrong. When you had that thought, you needed to correct it to: 'I never have to have another cigarette again!' ". I knew instantly he was correct. I said "Carl, if I had known you back then, I'd be a non smoker today." The next time I quit, sure enough I remembered Carl's advice. What a wonderful feeling! I never have to have another cigarette as long as I live! YipppEEEEEE! I'm FREEEEEE!!!!! |
I'm amazed at all of your willpower. I really am. Congrats and kudos to all who have managed to kick the nasty and expensive habit! |
Congrats Marianne, Holly, Darcy! You're making it, one day at a time. Clap, Clap, Clap. |
I'm telling you guys, just try to get infected with pneumonia. It makes quitting a lot easier when the pain of smoking is that intense. |
Im right behind you Marianne!!!!!! I leave for vacation on Saturday and it is going to be really nice not smoking...in cali you cant smoke anywhere any way......I used the metal picture of unplugging my smoking receptor...weird but so far it has worked!
Good for you and enjoy your cruise...... |
Hmm, I wonder if I could mentally unplug my chocolate receptor? |
I don't think so, Sue. I think chocloate is hard wired into the system. No plugs. |
I meant mental not metal...lol |
