Does anyone have a leather couch and can tell me if they've had good luck with it and their dog? Thanks so much!!! |

I do and I can't imagine any other material that would be better. It's very easy to clean and hair brushes right off. Even the few scratches that we've gotten come right out with a little leather conditioner. No quality leather should puncture-- there are many different grains to choose from and some are definitely more durable than others. Pebble grains will take a better beating than a supple smooth leather. My mother-in-law has sold furniture for 15 years, this was the advice she gave me before we bought our sofa... from her, ironically.
We have a Schillig sectional and they offer many different leathers and kind of explain some of the different durability here: Schillig leathers: http://www.ewald-schillig.de/cgi-bin/co ... x=leder_en |
mother in law? are you not telling us something... |
We have a leather couch too. And we have a leather recliner. So far it has worked out fine. Our older 2 dogs don't bother it. Fergie is 5 months old, she get's up on it and I find it ok for her too. I just have to wipe it down (better than having to shampoo) I worry now because fergie is teething. We keep many toys on the floor and give her chews often so she won't turn to the couch.
When flannigan was 3, he suffered from seperation, and ate the whole end of our other couch. From then on he was crated when we left. Now that he is 9 he sleeps most of the time. Hope this helped. |
Our dog has learned to "knead" the coach sorta speak. She gets it from our small dog who has to perform this digging action before she lays down (a form of nesting). Anywho, my mom SCREAMS when she sees this happening on her leather couch. Never a scratch mark though! |

Shut up, Steph! Close enough! It's easier than saying James's mom! I put that for those who don't have the benefit of knowing who I'm referring to when I say James. Maybe they would think James is another dog or something. It was for the new members' and guests' benefit... or something. We're waiting until James finishes his degree before we take on the planning of a wedding. It has become a touchy subject around the house because I finished my degree and have all this free time to plan and James will not be rushed. I find it annoying because I do not like to wait for things when I want them right away! EVERYONE will know when we make a decision, believe me! |
Let me know when you're ready to plan and I'll send you pics of ours. The rock n roll style wedding is awesome.
Did I mention that our colors were black and leopard print. |

Did I mention that our colors were black and leopard print. If I see the leopard, I'm going to want to do it! My mother is already so frightened that I'll be getting married in a black dress. James and I realized this year that we're now the old hipster versions of the punk, then goth kids, we used to be. Now we just dress almost exclusively in black but now everything's tailored instead of PVC or fishnet. I have a really hard time picturing myself in a white dress. Not for reasons of impurity or anything but just because white is not me! My best girlfriend is an artist and just moved to NYC. Before she left, a couple of her fashion design/artist friends offered to make my dress for me if I'd model for their store in it. Free dress, plus my input= absolutely! Then she moved and I haven't heard anything about it anymore. I don't know the girls well enough to call them on my own. The sketches were very cool. The dress was white but very fitted, with funky buckles-- kind of bondage inspired. Since it's not pressing right now, I haven't pushed it. Send me pictures anyway, Mandy. I want to see! |
Will do. Did I say that I wore a 2 piece corset top dress. I should just loan it to you! |
That would make my life a lot easier. Now I really want to see it. |
We have had leather couches for ten years! They are still in great shape! I wouldn't have anything else for the sheepies!
Sometimes they even let US sit on them! |
Have the leather furniture, cleans up great, no tears or scratches even when their nails need trimmed.
buttersstotch, just remember when its time, its YOUR wedding, do it the way you want. I sent my daughter to prom in a black dress that had leather/buckle straps across the shoulders, a couple other buckles, a few chains and netting under the dress which was tacked up in front with a couple more straps and buckles, she was gorgeous and cool at the same time and had the best time because she was being herself. the shoes were very cool too |

Sounds similar to my prom too! My mom had to step out while I was getting ready and, knowing she would give me a hard time, I left so I could wear my combat boots with the dress. She was so mad-- because I left, wore the boots and she didn't get pictures. The funny part was that she cared more than me. The only reason I went was beciase my boyfriend at the time was prom king so there was an obligation to show up! |
we have a leather sofa too
