They have a PET LINK which lists many things from addresses where people's pets are still stuck inside their houses to people offering to foster. Here is the link: http://www.nola.com/forums/animals/inde ... itial=true |

And I do not know if anynone has mentioned this one:
"To help the Houston SPCA make room for the expected steady stream of hundreds if not thousands of displaced shelter animals from Louisiana, the SPCA of Texas will be bringing a group of approximately 100 animals (from the Louisiana SPCA and the Houston SPCA) from Houston today at 8 or 9 p.m. to the Dallas shelter on 362 S. Industrial Blvd. The SPCA of Texas three shelter locations and offsite adoption locations are already full. To make room for the incoming displaced animals the SPCA of Texas is offering a $40 adoption special this Friday, Sept. 2 through Sunday, Sept. 5 for any animal currently in our shelters and offsite locations. Working together to make sure these animals have the best chance of adoption, many North Texas animal rescue groups and shelters will be coming to the SPCA in Dallas at 362 S. Industrial Blvd. to pick up animals they have room for tomorrow, September 3, between 10 a.m. and noon. On Wednesday, the SPCA sent a rescue team to Louisiana to assist with assessing and providing aid to the animals in the affected areas. McKinney shelter clinic manager, Nicole Powell, arrived in Baton Rouge, L.A. around midnight last night and today is working with Louisiana SPCA staff and volunteers to help care for and evaluate displaced animals that are being rescued from various shelters located in New Orleans. Nicole last reported that the group from the SPCA of Texas and others were on their way to the LSU Coliseum where approximately 500+ rescued animals were in route. These animals were rescued from flooded shelters and will be evaluated and treated and then transported out of Louisiana to make room for the animals that were left behind. Those animals will be kept in Louisiana in an attempt to reunite them with their owners. Yesterday, the SPCA drove a 30-foot livestock trailer filled with 50 large dog kennels, a generator and other supplies to Houston to assist the Houston SPCA and the Louisiana SPCA. Additionally, the SPCA will be deploying staff to the Houston SPCA within the next two days and may very well be transferring additional animals to Dallas in the coming weeks. The McKinney shelter has accepted more than 150 animals from individuals that are currently staying in Red Cross shelters. These animals will be kept in the Life Care Cottage and the Perry Barn until the owners can return for their pets. Beginning Sept. 1, 2005, the SPCA of Texas Volunteer Department has been conducting several “express” volunteer foster trainings to help accommodate many more animals. Those interested in the "express" volunteer foster training can e-mail their contact information or call 1-888-ANIMALS and they will be contacted by a SPCA of Texas volunteer program staff member. In order to further assist with these massive rescue efforts, the SPCA is canceling this Saturday’s Super Saver Vaccination Clinic to accommodate the arriving animals. Additionally, the SPCA will be closed to the public Monday in observance of Labor Day. These operations will put an enormous strain on the SPCA’s resources. To support the SPCA’s Hurricane Katrina search and rescue efforts, please donate online or call 1-888-ANIMALS, ext. 128. |
