Home after trip to the country

My OES (8 months) just returned after a 4 week trip to the country to a board trainer. Of course the board trainer couldn't brush Tennie the way I do, and because she was in the country she got into muddy messes in this Georgia red clay. Now I need to remedy the situation with her poor coat. I can't afford a professional groomer at this point and am wondering if brushing her day after day will eventually get her back into her once beautiful shape. The mats are terrible as well as the feel of her coat.
