You can also log onto www.Noahswish.org to make a donation. These groups need every penny they can get. For those of us who quit smoking why not send the money you saved not buying cigarettes. Or donate just because it's the right thing to do...and next time it could be your dog that needs saving. |
Diane, can we send donations directly to Animal Concern? I'd like my donation to get to an org that can use it now instead of going through red tape. |
Hi Paula
Yes, Your donation will not only be tax deductible but will go directly to help these pets/puppers in need! They are taking care of the pets of people who are staying in the Civic Center there in Lake Charles... asking nothing from anyone just a group wanting to help these families with their pets! Diane...it is all for the love of a pet..sheepie or not |
This is from the Lake Charles LA Shelter and Convention Center.....

Hi All
Kaye has made contact with Paulette & asked some questions...thought y'all might want to know this info too! Delivery trucks are not able to bring supplies into this area...if anyone has access to transportation into Lake Charles LA & wants to donate some of the above mentioned supplies please contact Paulette. People with Pets continue to come in at a fast rate & their needs are great! Diane...there are lives that need saving Paulette, Thank you so much for what you all are doing. I have been asked some questions. People want to help but are confused which ones to help! How many New Orleans people are staying at the Civic Center? How many pets are there? I will forward this information to the other rescues that I work with... There is so much misinformation out there! We are gathering up items and asking people for donations. Hugs, Kaye Second Chance OES Rescue There's approximately 2200 people at Civic Center, and the number of animals in our possession, not sure, because they're still coming in. The numbers are not accurate as of yet, but soon as I can get them I'll send it. We have 2 other locations that we are housing animals, one at the Civic Center and the other is a building that was built by humane society that has since closed down and they're allowing us to used there facility for this purpose. If you have any questions just email me and I'll do my best to get you answers... Paulette D. Diane -
Is it better to send money or actually purchase the items and try to send them since they're having trouble getting into the area? I really want to help - just want to know the best way to do it. Thanks for keeping us informed! |
WoW...good question! Kaye just told me that delivery trucks are not going into the area...she is going to Lake Charles with an SUV full & will bring out as many puppers as she can & foster them back near Abilene!
My guess would be to email Paulette & ask her...situation seems to be changing & not for the good How might you & I get the needed supplies to Lake Charles... UPS, Fed X etc. Yes, I am brainstormin' How creative yet safe can we get? I want to help now too! Diane...so much needs to be done |
I just talked to UPS and was told that the 70615 zip code is not showing up on their "affected" list, but it still may be difficult to get to because all the surrounding ones are on the list. She suggested calling the location to see if they're able to receive. So...I guess you're right...I'll contact Paulette. |
Let me know if you're able to get through, Diane, and what you find out. My e-mail to her has been returned "undeliverable" and I get the "all circuits busy" when I try to call. |
You might also want to check and see if any emergency services agenices in your area are going down there to help. If so, they may take small or limited supplies with them. |
I'm sending my donation today. It sounds like it will be hard getting supplies to that area, and I figure money can be given to the angels like Kaye to buy what they need when they get home. But this is just my feeling and I don't want it to affect anyone's decision about what to do.
Another thought. I don't suppose Animal Concern has a Paypal address? |
Hi All
Kaye just spoke to Paulette (Kaye can not log on to the Forum...Ron Help!) So this is the deal...latest message from Paulette! Delivery trucks can come in...a bit slow but it can happen! They need doggie supplies...items you can't get around the corner! Basic supplies...Leashes, Crates, Collars... along with bleach & baby shampoo & rugs, blankets, sheets and towels...does not have to be new maybe from the Goodwill! I am placing an order with Pet Edge for items....let those BIG brown trucks...UPS it in! I am also going to my Petsmart & Petco...maybe they are sending supplies down to the area! If not...maybe Target! Diane...got to be a way |
What about locating pet supply stores nearest the affected areas, place phone orders to them, and have them ship the supplies to wherever they can as close to the affected areas as possible. They can be given contact numbers to call the resuce people in the area to coordinate recieving and distributing supplies? |
I checked the USPS website and there is near normal mail delivery to zip code 70615. So anything mailed (packages, envelopes) should get to them. Another place to order pet supplies online is kvvet.com. I order my horse stuff from them and they excellent. They carry a full range of dog and cat supplies. |
I've contacted my local "doggie" friends and offered to be a collection point for them. We're gathering items today & tomorrow and sending off packages tomorrow aftn.
I told them if there's more and they want to continue contacting other friends, we'll send more boxes next week. Hopefully it will help! |
The Salvation Army in Abilene was holding blankets and sheets for us to take to the New Orleans Pets in Lake Charles. When I got there they told me that 45 Families were coming to their facility to stay for hwoever long it took. So the Babies didn't get the blankets and sheets. But Bless Their Heart some 45 Families will have a safe place to stay and a clean bed to sleep in......... I also understand that UPS is picking up and shipping to the needed areas , clothes, blankets, sheets, pillows hygene items.....So if they are doing that way out here in NO WHERE LAND maybe they are doing that in the Civilized Country....We are 200 miles west of Dallas Ft Worth......About about 800 miles from New Orleans ......Hurrah For UPS, Salvation Army and Everyone that is helping......... We will be leaving Saturday for Louisiana.......Sheepie Hugs, Kaye Second Chance OES Rescue |
I'm sending my donation (monetary) today. I was going to send cash because I figured it would be difficult for them to get to the bank (if the bank even exists anymore) to cash the check. But is it safe to send cash (well concealed of course)? |
Send a check or money order. They still have to account for everything and depending on who you're sending it to it may go to a head office that will dispurse it or use it to purchase supplies that are shipped. If the group you are sending it to has a website it would probably tell you what they prefer. |
We are going to UPS in the lighter items { blankets, sheets, towels, bowels, collars and leashes. We have had a generator donated to us to get to New Orleans. I think the Salvation Army is going to get that to New Orleans... I am going to get as far as I can with the heavier items and them shipped into Lake Charles. My concern is not getting into Lake Charles it is getting out. I have been warned by people from the area that taking back roads to get back to Texas would not be a good idea. I can't come back thru Houston...... Anyway, The Babies in need with get the supplies that they need.......Kaye, Second Chance OES Rescue |
Kaye, why can't you drive out of Houston?
Bless you for all that you are doing. |
Paula, Going from Houston on I 10 to Lake Charles won't be to bad...That is the road they are bringing all the New Orleans Survivors.....So I would have to try and find a smaller road from Lake Charles north and west back into Texas. Louisiana doesn't have a lot of main roads.....Kaye |
Thanks so much for doing all that your doing for the displaced pets down there. Are the animal rescue groups coordinating their efforts or are they kind of just doing their own thing? We sent a donation to Noahswish.org who were profiled on CNN helping the animals. It would be nice if each independent group could get more exposure. Haven't seen any coverage about animals for a couple of days now... |
I do know that some of the other OES rescue groups have donated items and money to Lake Charles.....Some to the Layfayette and Baton Rouge that have New Orleans People and their dogs also. We went with Lake Charles because We have worked with those Folks and I knew exactly where the money was going. How OES Rescue have helped I don't know. We work with other breed rescues also. Lab, German Shepard, Beardie, Fuzzy Face Rescue and Shaggy Dog Rescue. Saving a Life is Saving A Life.......I'm not going to turn My Back on any Dog in need........We are taking in some Black Labs { 4 year old female and 2 Babies. We will find them Furever Homes too. If Our Path takes in the direction of doing other breed rescue we will follow Our Hearts and do it. Of Course Sheepie are My Heart!!!!!!! Sheepie Hugs, Kaye Second Chance OES Rescue |
Kaye and all-
Just got back from Vaca and got my internet access back... Thanks for going down and reaching out to the lost fuzzies down there! Now I know where to send monies and items, I'm running out to target today! Are we sure mailed items are being received by the orginazations ok? Also- What about the need for foster homes? I'm way up in MN, but I have a big yard, and am happy to help if I can! I'm gonna e-mail Nancy at MOESR and see if we've got anything being coordinated up here... Karen |
