You take care of a digital puppy that needs to be talked to, petted and taken to do his or her business outside, needs to be walked and can be taken to dog parties with your friends that own the same game.... All the fun and non of the fur and wet noses. What's up with that? What's wrong with a little puppy? It's cheaper to get a puppy from the shelter, and it does not need batteries! What do you think? |

I think it looks cool...lol... |
Sigh... your average Nintendo playing kid does not have the attention span to take care of a real pet. Our kids have a dog in each house (mom's and dad's) and they are occasionally enthusiastic about grooming and walking, but on other days they're not interested. |
Great for kids who have allergies or live in rentals where they can't have real pets. |
I am a sucker for marketing, and that just sounds like fun! Bet the digital dog doesn't try to bug the cats or step on my foot!
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm Colleen and The Gooch=>Would it play with me? Wiggle, wiggle! |
How about this, a virtual dog! All on screen, no hair, no messes, there's even an OES in there!
http://www.virtualdog.com/ This is the new version of the game. http://www.virtualpetsworld.com/ |
If I can't use him as a pillow, I don't want him! |
The first "dog" that Brian got me was that Ibo...his theory was that it didnt poop, bark or shed......well, you can see how well that worked out It is kinda cool, but definately not the same as the real thing...Panda loves to follow it around...she is not quite sure what to make of it..haha |
Hahahaha... I wonder what will happen if I give Lennon and Sofa an ibo... probably it will end up as the most expensive chew tow I'll ever get them.
I'm not thrilled at all about the idea of digital pets, specially dogs when there's so many dogs waiting to be given love and a nice home (You can tell Danita and I are dog nerds... We cannot see a a dog without stopping to pet and talk to the owner), but I guess there's a niche they can fill in. I've read that fur real cats and ibos have helped elderly people to feel less lonely, and it would be a lot of fun not having to pick up the mess from doggie doo, but then there's nothing like a real thing! I'd rather have a wet nose wake me up rather than having a mechadog read my email for me and have the coffee ready in the morning. Am I sounding too crazy here? |
No, I agree with you completely! Pandas wet nose, jumping, barking, and all over obnoxious behavior is what makes her dear to my heart! When I go to a clients house, the first thing I do is bend down and pet the pooches....I guess I am a dog nerd too The Ibo is cool, we have the first generation...and his little bark sounds more like a cat meow I do love it when it sneezes and shakes its head.... |
I guess it would be good for people who live in apartments that do not allow them to house live four legged children. |
I have nintendogs - and a real dog. It's just something fun to do. You walk them around the block, feed them and take them to competitions and do other doggy things.
I named one of them Momo - so when I call the computer Momo - the real Momo comes - and when I call the real Momo the computer Momo comes. (They can hear their names). It's kind of cool - because it gives you a little insight (not perfect - but as good as a computer will ever get) into dog behaivior. It also gives you a little info on the different breeds and how they act. Even in virtual reality I'm a bit too responsible so I haven't seen if they would potty in the house yet if I left them too long - or if they died if I don't feed them - but maybe I'll be cruel enough one day to try. If a little kid ever wanted to get a dog - they would at least know how many times a day they would need to take them out - how many times they would have to feed them etc. This game is nothing new though - they've had cat and dog games like this before - where your dog actually grew up. Then they had more stuff like breeding and a whole bunch of toys. In the old game you could actually be mean to your dog (but you have to really try). I would get a poodle and set up water bottles in the room - whenever she knocked them she would squirt herself - making her run a bit into the next one then set off all the rest of them. (God I was a little brat) But anyways - it's a fun game to play - but I love my real doggy more. |
