I'm off to unpack and check everything out now! Just had to share my excitement. |

Wooohooo
! sounds like fun! lol One tip.... when getting the dog used to the grooming table, NEVER let the dog get down by itself, always lift the dog down. This is, for one, to make sure the dog doesnt ever try to jump off and hurt itself, and for two, the dog will learn to stay still longer if it never learns it is allowed to get down until YOU decide it is time to get down. |
Thanks for the tip, Stacy! I'll remember to do that. |
Was thinking about a table myself. How do you get a dog up on the table. I can't lift Cinde. I did give Fergi a bath yesterday in the tub. I thought my back would break. She is 40m lbs. Cinde is 58 lbs.

Well, ideally you lift them. Perhaps some weight training?
I've heard there are tables you can lower and raise..... so you wouldn't have to lift. |
Yeah...I lift both of mine. I've been using a "camping" table, which is not designed to hold their weight. Genevieve is about 65 lbs and Beau is about 80 lbs. So, having a sturdy table designed for the job will be such a treat!! They both know to put their front paws up and then I just help lift the back side. Sometimes, I also use an ottoman as a stepping stool for them. That helps. |
Hi Tammy,
Love the video, its terrific !! Funny how a new toy can be a big hit! Glad UPS arrived with your new grooming table and brushes. This is a great start for your sheepie room! Have fun and please post a few pictures of grooming adventures!!!! This could be the start of a whole new career ! |
Thanks, Zahra! I am excited about the grooming supplies. I was all set to start my sheepie room, too, when I found out that my company is probably going to be sold.
So....since I'm not sure if I'll be employed in two months time, I made the difficult decision to put off starting the building project. I really HATE to have to postpone, but sometimes we have to be prudent and patient. Until then, I can enjoy my new stuff on the back deck...LOL... Glad you enjoyed the video clip, too. I thought it was just too funny not to share. |
Yahoo! I agree getting those boxes from Petedge is fun!
And I found that a grooming table really made it a lot easier to groom Baxter and Cassiopia. I don't know why (and really don't care) however, they both behave much better while on the table. Not to mention that my back really appreciates the table also. Jennifer, Baxter, Cassiopia and Sharkey |
I love those kinds of new toys! I always find it quite enjoyable to groom my own dogs.
You'll be a pro before you know it! |
I got to break in all my new stuff last night! The grooming table rocks!! I also got an undercoat rake and thinned out Genevieve's coat some. That is going to make a huge difference. She hasn't been to the groomer since I've had her and it was so thick it was very difficult to manage. I know if you're showing you don't want to take out too much, but since we're not, I think I will try to keep it less dense. |
New stuff is always fun! Enjoy your new table and supplies. |
I am so happy you got your new stuff. Fun,Fun,Fun. try getting your dog to put front feet on the table and host up her behind thats how I get Griz on the table.Of course now every time he sees a grooming table he puts his two big hugh front paws on it even if there is anouther dog on it. |
Tammy,
You got me all inspired and I just placed an order for a grooming table and accessories from The Pet Supply House! My girlfriend, Kimmy is coming for a visit the end of October, from British Columbia and she's a groomer! So I'll get a real live demo! YAY! I figured since we are getting Murphy in a couple of weeks, I HAVE to learn to groom myself! Besides, I really want to! I just need some confidence! I'm always afraid I'm going to lop off a important part of their bodies or something! Happy Grooming! Colleen and The Gooch=>I would like to state for the record, I am not as excited about all this as my mommy! |
Yeah Colleen!!
We'll learn together "virtually"! I understand your reasoning. Sheepie # 2 (Genevieve) was the impetus for my decision, too. I wish I were so lucky to have a best friend who knows how to groom. That'd be great! Gucci - Beau & Gen said to tell you that they agree with your assessment of this situation. |
I just wanted everyone to know that I recieved my stuff today! Can you believe that! I checked off cheapest delivery method and assumed it would be a few weeks, it was 2 days and it cost 13.94! Amazing!
Now if I could only lift The Gooch, we'd be off and grooming! |
Sir Gucci - im addicted to petedge now!!!!! gonna order soon. i usually shop at thatpetplace.com - but petedge has some cheaper things. |
Woohoo Colleen! Another grooming aficiando in the making! |
I used to put Frank's front paws on the table and then boost his rear end up to alleviate having to pick up an 85 lb dog off of the floor. Now he knows the table is for him and literally tries to jump up on it every time I set it up. |
I've taught MO to jump onto a chair and then onto the grooming table. Alas, everyone else is too big for the table! I'd love to have a dining table with four stout corner legs instead of pedestal table, I'd use the more secure table for grooming even putting in a leaf or two. |
I pulled the table up to Gooch's favorite couch and he just walked right on to the table! We did it about 10 times yesterday and he got a lot of cookies! I didn't do any grooming yesterday as I wanted him to really get the hang of getting on the table! Now he thinks it's a fun game and I'm ready to go! YAY!
I really need to bring him to the vet's office and put him on the scale he is really growing into a big boy! Colleen and The Gooch=>that's what the table is for you're tricky Mommy! |
Hey Gooch, if it helps your brother was 65 pounds while at the vet last week. |
Sky is 65 lbs now too... and she still hasn't had her first heat cycle! I think she is going to finish up at about 70 lbs, big for a female. She has a much bigger bone structure than Dancer, and is more heavily muscled.
I can still lift her to the table though... the trick is teaching them to not get down until YOU say so. |
Yeah Colleen!! I'm glad you got your stuff so quickly! Isn't it great??
Sounds like the Gooch is going to be a pro at getting on and off the table soon. Happy Grooming!! |
Quote: Hey Gooch, if it helps your brother was 65 pounds while at the vet last week. OMG...are they still growing? They aren't even 11 months yet! Quote: Happy Grooming!!
Same to you! WHOOO HOOO! |
