Bam Bam is still bitting us , will this ever stop !!!!!!!

Hi all, New to the forum and have to say I totally love it, I will tell you a little bit about our newest edition, I decided to get a puppy after we currently lost our 13 year old sheep dog due to him swallowing a pair of nylons.
The house was not the same without him around and after a year I decided it was time to get a puppy
The pups were born on June 17, 2005 so I was able to go pick him up at 7 weeks old which right there I think was a problem. He was so cute and lovable what more can you ask for. <right >
Till the next day he started with the biting attacking our feet and what ever else he could grab. So at first we chalked it up to teething. Well, as days gone by we noticed he would not let us pet him without snapping at us then the growling stepped in, I was shocked that a pup would be like that. The only time he would let us get close to him was if we were holding him, but even then you still would have to fight him off while picking him up.
We then named him Bam Bam though maybe coujoe would have been better !!!! He was showing signs of being a loner as well, on his 8 week check up I was talking to the vet about what was going on and he was shocked at his behavior and told me he had to see a trainer right away.
I call the trainer and explain what is going on, now mind you on the phone she is thinking I am just crazy !! We set up a meeting and after a few minutes of Bam being nice he started right in with his antics, she was not thinking I was crazy at that point.
We started using a lease to get him to learn command like off when he is biting and wait when he was running towards us to bite. A quick tug on the leach and the command he was getting it.<< but then I thought to myself that's great but I cannot keep him on the leash all day!!!!!!! >
He is now 10 weeks old and I have seen improvement just from using the leach he now will sit when I say wait but the off thing works only when he feels like listening. I will not give up if its the last thing I do he will stop sooner or later I hope I really hope.

If you use the forum search tool and look up nipping, biting etc you will find lots of tips that have proved useful to many members who have dealt with these issues. Good luck!
Jasper did this until he was 5-6 months old. Everyone said it was natural for them and part of their herding instinct. Now at nearly 9 months old, he doesn't nip at all! Just be consistent in telling him no.
Maggie was pretty crazy when we first got her..I remember thinking this biting/nipping will never end. She seemed to get the wildest right before we went to bed. We used the howl approach when she would put her teeth on us..and sometimes I would give a really loud, long pained noise...this took a while, but she is 5 months old now and her nipping has completely stopped..well, except when she gets super excited.

It soulds like you are taking her behavior seriously and going through all the right channels. I am proud of you for sticking in there!!! Keep it up. I know you will get some great advice and support here.
Just a thought, but is BamBam deaf? Have you noticed if he actually hears things? I just feel that some of those traits sound a little familiar. When Gucci was 9weeks he really did alot of those things and with deaf dogs they don't "hear" you say ow! I'm just curious because BamBam seems to respond to the signals on the leash, but not verbal commands.

It's just a thought, maybe try making a loud noise behind BamBam when he's not looking and check for a response, just trying to rule that out. :D

I use a leash tied to me when I am training new puppies. It is called attatchment training. It is great and keeps the puppy from doing things he isn't suposed to do. When they arn't attatched to you I use a creat. I whish you good luck with your puppy . Also have him neatured as soon as he is old enough this should helps.I think you can find more info on attachment training on the internet. :D
I want to thank you for your help,
I have tried loud pitch noise and yes he will cock his head and stop but only for a few seconds, he then will usually go after someone else at that point.
The leash technique is helping me indeed with commands like sit, wait, and so on. This is a first for me using this type of tranning but in all honestly (I have never seen a dog walk so well as him on a leash it truly amazes me. )
We had a create set up for when he came home with no intention of using it this early on. Bam took to the create when he wanted to take naps and will sleep in the create at night with the door open, He will not sleep with me or any where near me which is weird .The distance he throws off and wanting to be a loner ,not cuddly like most and cannot understand why.
Honestly, Gucci doesn't cuddle very much either and he's an awesome dog! He also prefers to sleep on his own in his "basement" and not with us in the bedroom. I think this is just a personality trait and I wouldn't worry about it too much! :D

I'm glad to hear that BamBam heard your noise! At least that rules that out!

Having bred and raised puppies, I don't really think getting him at 7 weeks is an issue. Unless, of course, the breeder didn't handle the pups often. In those cases, the sooner the pup gets to its new home, the better.

When young, they establish their rank in the pack. They start out playing, then if one gets hurt or doesn't submit, the play will get rougher and can develope into fighting. I think your puppy was one of the dominant pups in the litter.

Has anyone told you to hold the puppy on his back until he settles down? This will help teach him that "you" are the dominant one and that he must submit to you. I would also reinforce this practice in adulthood. They are eager to get their bellies rubbed. Praise afterwards, but don't over excite.

It takes a bit of time, but he'll come around as long as you don't "allow" him to be dominant. Sessions should ALWAYS end with "you" being the dominate. If working on something and you "know" hes not going to obey, stop prior to that, have him do something else, and end the session.

Coujo, aka Bam Bam, was use to bossing his littermates and now has to find his new rank in the pack. Going from "first," to last place can sometimes be a bit of a challange, but he'll settle in time with your guidance.

Teething comes next, and usually consists of chewing up your furniture, not you.
