The only one I recall was "which way did he go, which way did he go? He went for Faygo." I think it was a cowboy theme. |
The Faygo Kid commercial said:
"Which way did he go? Which way did he go? He went for Faygo, old fashioned Root Beer." There's also the Faygo boat song "Remember when you were a kid" -- you can buy the VHS tape of it for $10 at www.faygo.com Comic books and rubber bands Climb into the tree top Falling down and holding hands Tricycles and Redpop Pony rides and Sunday nights Roller skates and snowball fights Climbin' through the window Remember when you were a kid? Well, part of you still is And that's why we make Faygo Faygo remembers Flying kites and funny shoes Easter eggs with speckles ABCs and counting by twos Washing off the freckles Kissing a hurt to make it stop Startin' school in September So many things you almost forgot Tryin' to remember Remember when you were a kid? Well, part of you still is And that's why we make Faygo Faygo remembers |
What the heck is Fago?! |
Yummy pop made in Detroit. Redpop, cream soda, rock and rye, grape, etc. You can still buy it locally. I can't imagine a kid never having tasted rock n rye |
What the heck is pop?! Just kidding...but we call it SODA where I'm from...lol...
The first time I heard someone call it 'pop' was when I was in college and there was a girl I knew from Chicago area. We made fun of her! I thought they only called it pop during the Leave it to Beaver age! Funny how different parts of the country have different names for things...Like Edy's Ice Cream, instead of Dreyer's, or Hardy's instead of Carl's Jr.... |
Everyone I know calls it pop...lol.... |
I always thought that Faygo stuff was disgusting..lol.... |
Soda is "Tonic" around here, but the phrase seems to be dying out. |
In MI tonic is something you add to your gin |
Ive lived in AZ for almost 20 yrs. I still call it pop and I still get weird looks...faygo rock n rye was the best when added with vanilla icecream to make a float....nothing like staining your t shirt with the stuff
Soda is what I add to Vodka |
what does the rock and rye taste like? It sounds like rye bread! |
If I remember correctly it was red pop that kinda tasted like a cherry??? cream soda???? |
LOL...it is funny how different regions refer to soft drinks. Down here everything is a Coke. No matter what brand or flavor. As in "what kind of Coke do you want?"
Personally, I say "soda" but I'm in the minority. |
I cant remember the guys name that did the commercial, but do you remember the red and white vest and that he said " YYYYUUUEEESSSS"
(yes, drawn out, then a giggle) |
I'm trying to think what they call it here in VA...I know it's not pop (b/c that one always bothered me for some reason, so I would know if I was hearing it!)...they might call it Coke like Tammy said. I don't know. VA is strange. Some parts are still very southern and some not so much. |
out west, its Soda....Pop justs sounds more fun... |
Yeah, pop does sounds more fun. I think it was because the girl in college who was from Chicago had a VERY thick accent and would always be like Anyone want some PAWP and very nasal. Come to think of it, she was just generally annoying, so that could be where to aversion came from! |
Here it's soda, but if you travel to southern mexico, all carbonated drinks are called "Coca" or COKE. If you want to drink a 7UP, you MUST ask for a 7UP Coke. If you want a Coca Cola, you ask for a Coke Coke, if you ask just for a coke you end up with a quzzical look from the waiter. |
Everything here is coke. If you want a Sprite, say Sprite. If you want Mt. Dew, say Mt. Dew. Coke, you have to ask for Coca-cola. etc... |
Mid-Atlantic East Coast says soda. And I've never heard of Faygo! Guess I had a deprived childhood!
Chris |
I seriously feel like I've missed out on something! I have no idea what you are all talking about!
I always ask for a diet coke...I don't think I use the term soda unless it's asking for a vodka/soda and I don't use pop! All my American family members do though! And they kind of say PAAAAP! Colleen and The Gooch |

To me, the old Fago Jingle was Summer in all its glory. I came to the United States as a young man and was able to go to work wearing short sleeved shirts in the Summertime, something that was a rare experience in Scotland. I loved that Jingle, it was so American, at least the America that I visualized of yesteryear, staw hats, striped jackets, and SODA POP. As a kid in Scotland we called every soft drink 'ginger' regardless of the flavor. There was one named 'Tizer', and I thought that it was great until I tried Fago's 'Rock and Rye', then Tizer faded into nothingness. One time when I returned to Scotland on vacation, I bought a few bottles of Tizer and another favorite of mine 'Irn Bru'; at one time it was called Iron Brew, in comparison to the flavours produced by Fago they were tame indeed. Oh you poor souls from other States who have never had the pleasure of drinking Fago's 'Rock and Rye' or 'Red Pop in the hot days of July and August, you have never really experienced a Summer. |
Here in northeastern PA., Rock & Rye is WHISKEY |
Ah the memories of the Fago Commercial. I think it was everyones favorite. Rock and Rye was my favorite. Down here in Florida, soda pop is called soda. I am origianlly from Michigan, so I call it Pop. My husband, on the other hand, has gone over to the other side and calls it soda. lol Great memory! |
When I grew up, my parents used to call it "tonic" most of the time, especially my dad, but the culture was changing and they were wavering and calling it soda, or a "soft drink".
I call it soda now, but I'd smile and know you were from Boston if you asked for a tonic! |
