Sometimes my OES will eat cat poo outta the litter pan until I catch him and he runs like a madman. It is such a nasty habit but alot of people go through it. I wish I had advice but I just wanted you to know you weren't alone. |
when Shanti was a puppy, he used to do the same... also like playing with it. Yes, very gross...
Now, he doesn't do it anymore. |
Gross but commonly experienced! Woof also does this - we now clear up his mess ASAP to stop him doing it...
People have offered different explainations as to the reasons behind it - that your pup may be just hungry, or deficient in some mineral-or-other, or just plain bored! Cures (apart from removing the, ahem, temptation) seem to centre around changing your sheepie's diet so that the poo isn't as tasty (gross) - Ive heard pumpkin is a good one.. Best of Luck! |

I did the same. Cleared up ASAP, so that's why Shanti now barks at me everytime he does poo... telling me that a poo is on the patio and I should pick it up.- |
My OES puppy has begun eating his poo too! We now race to pick it up or else he eats it while our backs are turned! I hope he grows out of it soon. We took him for his first walk yesterday and he seemed to enjoy it even tho he has the odd fight with his lead.. |
It's called coprophagy. I was told it comes from their mother who would eat her puppies feces so predators would not find them. The puppies learn this and then do it themselves. Our male did this for almost a year before he grew out of it. They make a powder you can put on the dogs food which makes the feces taste real bad. I was told meat tenderizer works too but I'll stick with what the vet has. |

wowww. Didn't know. I love learning that kind of things... Thanks Greg. |
PIsco did this twice....the first time i just saw a "piece" of it on the carpet ...but knew he had just gone on his regular spot in the yard..so I went and checked it....he came walking with me .and I don`t know why I smelled his face.and sure enough he has that smell...(uhmg)..a big NO went his way, the next time he did it I was near by and saw him......I just grab his head made him look at me and gave him a big NO I let him outside for about 10 minutes without even looking at him........Never again.
He does have the anoying habit of peeing and walking over his pee when he`s done.....can`t take that away from him! |
