So I first asked Madelyn if having a boy was okay, she said yes as long as it doesn't get big...(holding her hands out to a small size)... So we won't have a princess, and I suppose that will be okay, cheaper to neuter than to spay, and ususally more affectionate. I pick him up tommorrow, and he was free...hubby very happy about that, but not happy that we will have 3 dogs, until Tag's moving out date in Sept. I'm excited because this should work out better, Remy originally lived with a Lhasa/Shih-tzu I think..anyways a small dog. |

Congrats
I hope your new little guy adjusts quickly to your house and I hope Remy likes him. Elissa |
SOUNDS PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Especially the free part!!) Can't wait to see pictures) Isn't it it funny how we even care what sex our pups are when we are going to neuter them!! I was getting bows for Ty the other day (his hair is now long enough to put in a top knot) and I was so worried about getting "boy bows" and then I thought, WHY????? It's not like a pink bow is going to give him an gender identity cirsis So tell Madelyn she can play princess with the puppy Sounds like a great cross and should be a perfect size. |
LOL... oh my hubby would NOT like it if I put bows in a male dogs hair...lol.....
He doesn't even like it if I put bows in Dancer and Sky's hair...lol.... When we get our boy though (boy dog I mean) I think my hubby plans to teach it to sit on the couch and be "guy like" and that's about it. LOL Since our boy pup will be a show dog no if's and's or buts! until he has an American and Canadian championship, he is just going to have to put up with the frou frou look for a while...lol.... |

I TOTALLY agree. Mr. Joah's side of the family has mostly shih tzu's (several generations back...and always 2 at a time) and ALL the girls were more flirty with the men, but the males are mommy's girl!!! I personally love them I'm so excited for you. They are great. Our maltese comes from the Bichon family, so we love them too! |

Maybe the manly men will laugh at his frou frou hair in the early days, but once he has those "Ch"s in front of his name the ladies will be lining up for him and the other boys will just be jealous...lol! |
UPDATE:
Oh my talk about a bad day for me...we are suffering from high gas prices so you can't just take off places right...I had to drive 3 hours one way to get this "puppy"...I get there and in walksmy aunt (the one who told me about this dog in the first place)...and he proceeds to run over and lift his leg on my other aunt's carpeted stairs and mark his spot. NOT A PUPPY...boy was I furious, this dog was not only an adult, but at least 4 years old, bite the previous owners child, (I have 2 kids), and NOT neutered, she forgot to write down his name. And she said he growled at her, but then was friendly later on. But because I said I would take him, and she went to all the work of getting him to me, I took him home. We went to the PetsMart because I had to buy him some dog food. I took him and the kids with me, he was greeting other dogs nicely, was excited to see another shih-tzu (he is pure I think), anyways all going nicely. A boy about 10ish, pets him, went well, we moved on. A little later, the same boy comes back and pets him again, this time I say I don't think he's very friendly, so be careful...he says he knows dogs etc (have Newfoundlands), well I thought he was done and I have my two kids too...tuned my back and in that split second the dog bite him on the lip...drew blood too. I apologized and explained as best I could to the mom, that I warned her son, this is a very new dog to me, I don't have much history...she wasn't overly mad just concerned whether or not the dog had his shots...(I found out he does tho I have no proof). Anyways, I got a hold of my aunt who arranged all this and I asked her to find out his name, and shot history. His name is Tubba. He is full of little matts everywhere, he has a fear aggressive personality, as long as feels okay he doesn't lash out..anything threatening to him he is very quick to bite. I tried grooming him, and he was okay for most of it...we still have more to do, but I don't have a muzzle. So far he's been behaving himself. He has slight separation anxiety...alot of whines, short 1 bark type of noise. I have been keeping kenneled at night, and in the kitchen. He likes to mark new areas...did this in the kitchen, but hasn't done it since. He can get along with dogs, as long as they give him space. Tag is too much puppy, but Remy and him seem to be okay. I am debating if he is suitable to anyone...definitely no kids under the age of 16....maybe an elderly couple...but he will be alot of work, he thinks he runs the show. I haven't found the shihtzu rescue person yet, we've just been extremely busy this weekend. He is cute, and white with cream spots. He seems to love my attention, and even wags his tail for the kids. Sigh |
Oh boy -- sounds like a handful. That's really disappointing. I'm amazed the mom of the bitten boy didn't cause any grief. Are you going to keep him or try to find him another home? Is there any chance he will settle in and be better behaved over time? What does Madelyn think of him? |
Sorry things didn't go better with the new pet |
She is VERY dissappointed, she thinks he's cute but that's it. She is scared of him, and I am not letting them near each other at the moment.
The thing with the boy at the store, he was on his knees, and I think he put his face into the dogs face...kissy kissy kinda thing...and that did not go well...other wise he would have been bitten someplace else...but the lip???? He is NOT what I want, I want the breed cross, not pure, and not an adult that has not been socialized or perhaps had some abuse in his history. I have the suspision he was somebody's breeding dog...being that he's 4 and not neutered....so probably lived in a kennel, not a house....I don't know. All I do know is this family thought they had a good deal he paid $200 for him, and gave him away for free....just to get rid of him. I don't think they lied to my aunt, (she gets confused easily..I blame her for all of this)...they probaly said we have had this dog for 4 mths, NOT he's 4 mths old. Anyways, he is moving on...I will at least pick an appropiate home, or find a rescue society to reabilitate him if possible. I just can't take any chances with him and the kids.... |
DOg rescue is a wonderful thing and those that do it are to be greatly admired. Perhaps someday you will be in a position to be able to do that. But you DO NOT HAVE TO FEEL BAD because you cannot do that at this moment in time. FInd this "puppy" a home. The marking will not stop, even if you have him neutered if he is this old and has been used for breeding. Several years ago I was offereed a FREE maltese who was a retired breeder. I wanted a maltese do badly i almost took him. The day I met him he came up and promptly peed on my leg. Luckily I did not take him and spoke to my Vet first. He said that behavior is almost impossible to break.
You may be able to calm his personality but what if he bites your daughter or another child (again) in the meantime. As far as the child at Pet Smart, shame on the mother of the boy for not watching HIM closer, you gave them the scoop. I am SOOOOOO SORRY you have had this happen! Your daughter needs a fluffy puppy she can cuddle and kiss. Good Luck! Ginny |
Thanks for the info Tasker's mom, he hasn't marked in the kitchen anymore than the first day. Then I let him out and he found a previous spot from Tag, on a small piece of carpet we left by the door...he promptly covered over it...so if he will never stop that behaviour we DEFINITELY can't keep him.
He is getting along very well with Remy, but not Tag yet. As long as Tag stays calm, he is fine. He has picked his toy now, loves a soft squeaky red fire hydrant to play with, and even fetches. I have him leashed to me right now in the living room, I want to get to him a bit better, found out his name is Tubba. He needs to be groomed and bathed...yikes, don't know what will happen then. Hopefully he has had this before and likes/tolerates it well enough. Did some grooming, but kept it really short. He would love an active person, goes crazy for a leash and walks....grin from ear to ear, on the little guy. Does not like being alone, but getting better, quiets down faster now. Kenneling him is getting better but trying to break his 6 am wake up...we have as the earliest 7:30 am. I have someone coming today with older teenage kids, she is leary but wants to see him first before she judges him. She has another small dog, but a neutered male. I at least don't sugar coat a dog, and say he's wonderful, because it would bother my conscience so much to wonder if?? I will keep you updated. |
Sorry it didn't work out... and you are very lucky the mom didn't freak out, though really she should have been watching her son more.
Good luck finding him the right home |
I'm sorry to hear that Tubba isn't what you were expecting. But, bless you for making sure he goes to a home that will be right for him and keep him from being bounced around some more.
Keep us posted! |
I wish you lived closer! One of the Dr's I work with just had a litter of puppies, 1/2 choc lab 1/2 bichon. Yup I said Bichon!!! Apparently they used a vet for artificial insemination because they wanted to bred the two temperments. Mom is a very small lab and Dad is the Bichon. They has 11 pups, half are all white and half are all black. They will be medium to small and fluffy!!! |
