It led to these statistics: In 2003, more than 45 million adults (more than 21 percent) in the United States were smokers—about 24 percent of men and about 19 percent of women. Nearly 70% of these smokers said they wanted to quit. When surveyed in 2003, about 15 million (more than 41 percent) adult smokers had stopped smoking for at least 1 day during the preceding 12 months because they were trying to quit. Also in 2003, almost 46 million adults were former smokers, representing more than 50 percent of all who ever smoked. This was the second year in a row that there are more adults who are ex-smokers than who are current smokers. On average, smoking reduces adult life expectancy by approximately 14 years. The statistics are clear: If you want to successfully quit smoking, your chances of doing so are about double using the nicotine replacement gum, and nearly triple if you use the patch. | I don't like the idea of the gum.... if I try to quit it would probably be with zyban. I don't think the patches would work for me either, I'd just pull it off to have a smoke. (or not) |
