Yes, a translation would be nice, but I LOVE the one where the sheep is herding the OES. hahahahahha |
I love it! If it had been French...I could have been some help... |
went to a translation site and typed one in...but it doesn't make any sense to me.
If anyone wants to try it is: http://www.freetranslation.com |
I tried it and it said $39.99 for 21 words
I think anno is year Spazzola mmm. maybe it's the biggest spaz of the year award |
I can understand italian but only speak a little. I sent it to my mom to translate though...lol.... mostly I understand being yelled at in italian... |
Love the drawing on the bottom of the page of the sheepie running on the beach with all the seagulls flying!
Chris |
I'm Italian but never learned the language. My parents were first-generation immigrants, but since my grandparents only knew Italian, it was my parents' first language until they went to school. My parents didn't want us to be stigmatized like they were, so they never taught us!
Of course, that didn't stop them from talking to each other when they didn't want us to understand! I love the look of the cartoons, though!! Chris |
I called a friend of mine who speaks Italian, unfortunately noone was home.
I LOVE the one on the couch, not familiar at all...tho she only does this when we are not around. |
mostly I understand being yelled at in italian... Quote: ME too. |
The boys I work for are Italian. They did some translating. They mostly speak no0t read.
1. Something regarding the grooming table at the year show with a full coat. 2. "I'm done, I'm going back to bed" 5. Telling her she is a beautiful dog, the air smeels nice but he is batting 1000 in trying to wheel her. The boys speak real well, but do read it. I tried. |
The first cartoon says:
"It's not as bad as other years when I come to the shows It's always someone annoying me with a comb and saying 'You're full of mats!!!" "Now that the show's over, I can go back to what I was doing in the first place" Or at least, that's what I understood from the translation. I'll work on the others in the weekend, The drawings are pretty good! |
I sent the address to a couple who speak Italian; if they draw a blank I send it to an Italian priest friend. We'll get is somehow. |
i took a year of italian my freshman year of college.... i recognize all the words but cant say i know what anyone are! haha, dont tell my parents! |
I think we should have a "make up your own caption contest"
For example....the one on the couch should read, "This is my couch go find your own" |
Ok ... got the translation! LOL
Comic strip 1 Italian - Meno male... translates to "Thank goodness I came to Raduno this year... you can always find a poor soul to brush you. I was full of knots. Comic strip 2 Italian - ora che e finito...translates to "..now that It is finished, I can return back to what I was doing" Comic strip 3 Italian - Bob e le pecore Translates to " Bob and the sheep" Comic strip 4 Italian - Per quanto altro tempo...Translates to " How much longer will I have to remain this tanned?" Comic strip 5 - Italian - Non doveva... Translates to "it did not have to end this way" Comic strip 6 - Italian - Ciao, io sono Bob... Translates to " Hi, I'm Bob. What is your name?" Comic strip 7 - Italian - Giochiamo a palla... Translates to " Let's play ball...I'll let you gnaw on my bone... Comic strip 8 - Italian - Facchiamo una bella... Translates to "Let's have a nice race on the grass with our fur flowing in the wind" Comic strip 9 - Italian - Dai...non fare la... Translates to "C'mon don't be so unsociable" Comic strip 10 - Italian - Beh! Mi sa tanto che... Translates to "Oh Well! Looks like I won't be hammering a nail today" is the literal translation but what they are trying to say is the same as "No luck today" |
Thanks!!! |
Wow... that makes sense now!
Thanks a lot! |
Ok, my stepdad sent a revision....lol....
The asterisks denote the changes... I'm not sure if it's his sister visiting from italy or his friend's sister visiting from italy but apparently she corrected it. lol Comic strip 1 Italian - Meno male... translates to "Thank goodness I came to Raduno this year... you can always find a poor soul to brush you. I was full of knots. Comic strip 2 Italian - ora che e finito...translates to "..now that It is finished, I can return back to what I was doing" Comic strip 3 Italian - Bob e le pecore Translates to " Bob and the sheep" *** Comic strip 4 Italian - Per quanto altro tempo...Translates to " How much longer will I have to remain fixed up like this?" That's great! Thanks!! |
Hello
I am new here... my name is Laura Grassi and the web site is mine www.oldenglishsheepdog.it I live in Italy near Milan and I am the owner of 4 bobtails, Alice, Colibrì, Etichetta and Lulù Baby. Maria Pia Maroni is the author of the drawings and she is the owner of an old english sheepdog and a very good friend of mine. I read your translations and they are quite good. Raduno is the Championship Show Dog, a show dogs... and Bob (the old english sheepdog of the drawings) is a bobtail who lives in Rome so he sometimes speaks a local language. For example... "posso tornà a fà" in Italian is "posso tornare a fare". It's difficult to translate in English, but in Italian language is very very funny. However I hope you enjoyed the cartoons. If you want to see other drawings you can visit another web-site www.bobtailitalia.it in the section standard Laura |
Welcome to the forum! I love your website
I can't wait to hear more about your dogs, they are beautiful |
Hello and Welcome to the forum.
The cartoons are great! |
Hello
I need your help..... we decided to translate in English our cartoons Bob's Adventures and I have to translate two new cartoons too In Italian Bob says: Mi piace tanto bere a garganella..... and I wanted to translate with: I like so much drinking down the throat... or drinking a lot or I found this verb: to gulp down that translate "bere a garganella" so I wanted to translate I like so much gulping down...... Do you think it sounds good? Laura and (Alice, Colibrì, Etichetta and Lulù Baby) |
Gulp is a good choice. It means to drink a large amount quickly and perhaps a bit loudly too. But the phrasing doesn't quite sound like English.
How about "I love to gulp. . ." |
I'm not sure what point the cartoon is trying to make, how it is trying to be funny, so one phrase might be good for one cartoon, but another phrase might be good for another.
Here are a few suggestions: "Gulping water is fun" "I like to gulp my water" "Sometimes I actually get some in my mouth" (suggests that water gets all over the place when he drinks, a big mess) "I hope this is my water dish" (In my head I image he's worried that he is drinking from the toilet.) Can we see which cartoon you are trying to caption? |
I added the cartoon of Maria Pia in this site (the italian bobtail club site).... so you can see the cartoon
http://www.bobtailitalia.it/club_000005.htm Bob says: Non c'è niente di meglio di una bella bevuta dopo una passeggiata... meno male che qui a Roma non mancano le fontanelleThere's nothing as a good drink after a stroll, thanks Godness in Rome we got lots of drinking fountains Mi piace tanto bere a garganella: I love to gulp...... or?? Laura |
Is that a "fire hydrant"? What does "SPDR" mean, something like
"Rome Public Works Department" |

Laura What a cute cartoon! In that context, "I love to gulp water" would be fine but maybe someone else can come up with something more distinctive. |
SPQR is an acronym for the Latin phrase Senatus Populusque Romanus. The translation is "The Senate and the People of Rome." It's still used on the City of Rome coat of arms today.
Too many years of Latin in Catholic school... Bob reminds me of Bailey drinking from the hose! Bailey would be saying "I love to slurp down lots of water!" |
spqr is latin......
it is not a fire hydrant... I translated it in drinking fountain.... but I am not sure it is correct. In Rome there are lots of these "Drinking fountains" and so Bob after his stroll can drink.. I like the phrase.... I love to slurp down lots of water thank you very much If I need other help may I ask you? I don't want to bother you...... but I have another cartoon and I need help Laura and (Alice, Colibrì, Etichetta and Lulù Baby) |
We love Maria Pia's cartoons! Please ask any time. |
Those cartoons are awesome. I like your style... Keep them coming! |
this is the cartoon:
http://www.oldenglishsheepdog.it/bobtail_000001.htm Bob io torno subito, fai il bravo e non salire sul divano come al solito Bob, I'll be back soon, be a good boy and don't go on the couch, as usual Un'oretta di sonno non me la toglie nessuno Nobody will blame me if I'm taking a nap... I translated with the verb to blame..... but I wanted to say something different... nobody will notice if I'm taking a nap.... or???? I need your help Laura and (Alice, Colibrì, Etichetta and Lulù Baby) |
I think Nobody will notice if I'm taking a nap works just fine! |
I love it. I would say "They won't mind if I'm just taking a nap" |
celerrime wrote: I like the phrase.... I love to slurp down lots of water
me too! That's perfect. |
This cartoon of Bob made me think of Maxmm and Carl:
http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=4334 |
yeah, I like "Nobody will notice if I'm taking a nap" too... sounds very sheepie. |
thank you very much
I decided to use: Nobody will notice if I'm just taking a nap..... Maria Pia wants to thank you all for your help and for your appreciations on her drawings. Maria Pia is working on other cartoons...... Laura and (Alice, Colibrì, Etichetta and Lulù Baby) |
saulmr, I visited your web-site
I love it. I saw a T-Shirt with a drawing (What a sheep?) and I love it |
Hey, it's Italian Carl!
He just needs the eye/ear patch and it'd be perfect! |
Thanks Laura! |
Here is the English version of the cartoons of Maria Pia

Just fantastic!!! |
I just loved the drawings...even before the translations.
Now they are even better. The captions are so fitting and so OES. Elissa |

E' veramente dura la vita di un cane I want to translate it with What a suffering!!! sometimes it's really hard being a dog..... look at the cartoon in Italian language: http://www.oldenglishsheepdog.it/bobtail_000001.htm do you think it's correct? any suggestion? thanks in advance Laura and Alice, Colibrì, Etichetta and Lulù Baby |

Chris Frodo and Smeagol |
thanks for your help
I added the cartoon in English in my web-site http://www.oldenglishsheepdog.it/bobtail_000020.htm Laura and Alice, Colibrì, Etichetta and Lulù Baby |
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Did you interview Sofa for that cartoon? It sums up her attitude right there. Fantastic! |
Hello..... how are you all doing?
I added a cartoon of Maria Pia in my web-site.... Bob and Agility.... http://www.oldenglishsheepdog.it/bobtail_000020.htm and I need your help to translate this one: http://www.oldenglishsheepdog.it/bobtail_000001.htm Bob and the vet...... I have a sad news..... Teo, the old english sheepdog of Maria Pia (the author of the drawings) died of cancer one months ago. |
Ohhhh That is very bad news indeed.
I am so sorry for MariaPia's loss of Teo. |
Thanks for the cartoon!!!!
So sad about Teo |
I'm sorry about Teo...
Those cartoons just make me smile. |
Wonderful cartoons - as always!!
So sorry to hear about Teo. Very sad news. Please give our condolances to MariaPia. |
Your website and cartoon are great, Laura! This is the first time I've seen them. I laughed the entire time while reading. |
Same here first time I have seen them too Laura, they are fantastic.
Sorry to hear about Teo |
Hi,
I really enjoyed viewing all the cartoons too! They are just wonderful! I'm sorry to hear about Teo. Perhaps you can tell your friend about the Rainbow Bridge forum we have here...it's to write a memorial to a beloved pet that has passed. Marianne and the boys |
thanks for your words.... I will give your condolence to Maria Pia
http://www.bobtailitalia.it/club_00003b.htm Any idea to translate well this cartoons: http://www.oldenglishsheepdog.it/bobtail_000001.htm Laura |
Our deepest condolencies to Maria, it's always hard to loose a friend. |
Laura,
I love these! Here are some "revisions" for the English that makes reading them in English a bit smoother. Forgive me for "correcting" them, but I was an English major in college! Agility: Remove the "A" after "It's" and before "Hard" Should read: "It's hard work for a cookie!" SPQR: Remove "as" replace with "like". Remove the "s" in "thanks". Consider using "have" instead of "got". Should read: "There's nothing like a good drink after a stroll. Thank goodness in Rome we have lots of drinking fountains..." NapTime: Fine as is, but consider changing to: "Nobody will notice if I just take a nap" DogShow: Remove the "s" in "thanks" Should read: "Thank goodness..." These really are so great! More more more!!! |
thank you very much for your help..... my english is not excellent and I know that there are errors in my writing.... this is the reason because I need help to translate the cartoons...
I will tell Maria Pia to correct the errors. I need to translate also the cartoon "Bob and the vet" and I need your help http://www.oldenglishsheepdog.it/bobtail_000001.htm dai Bob andiamo: c'mon Bob, come in /or :c'mon Bob, let's go andiamo, che ti costa: c'mon, che ti costa letterally is what it costs to you..... but it does not sound well! non farti pregare, è solo una punturina: please... it is just a puncture Io odio le vaccinazioni... but.. I hate punctures!! I don't like the word puncture..... Can I use another word? Laura and Alice, Colibrì, Etichetta and Lulù Baby |
Maybe instead of 'puncture' you could use 'pierce' which means puncture---Like when someone gets their ears pierced for earrings...
"It is just a pierce' But I hate pierces! |
I think she means "shots".
Maybe it would go: Come on Bob! What's the big deal? It's just a shot. But I hate shots! |
when you got to the vet for a vaccination.... is a shot? is this the right word?
Laura and Alice, Colibrì, Etichetta and Lulù Baby |
Yes - we call vaccinations "shots". |
USA it's a "shot", but in England they call them "jabs", I think. |
In australia it is "A Shot" too |
thanks
I like the word SHOT.... Maria Pia is also working on a Calendar with the cartoons.... for the Euro OES Show in Italy 2006... I will need your help for the translations. I hope I am not bothering you too much Laura.... Alice, Colibrì, Etichetta and Lulù Baby |
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Enjoy this Christmas Card. The author is my friend Marco Barone. http://www.oldenglishsheepdog.it/bobtail_000016.htm Laura |
Absolutely beautiful! |
