I can do it, I can quit smoking!

Well, Today is my 2nd day without a cigarette...I have made a few observations:
1. I can still smell my perfurm 2 hours after I put it on
2. I find that my hands feel empty without the cigerette
3. Water actually tastes better than Coke/Pepsi
4. Im not sure how to socialize with other smokers and not have or ask
for a cigerette.
5. I will probably get a lot more work done ( this site AND smoking took
up a lot of time :D )
6. I remember what it was like to be a non-smoker and that I liked it,
but I also feel brainwashed. I like to smoke....
7. If Brian can quit, so can I. I plan on doing it with more grace and less
obnoxious behavior....Im competitive by nature, and I guess I want to
"win" the quitting game.
8. Im afraid that I will spend less time outside with Panda...I only smoked
outside...maybe go for more walks...???
9. I can save a lot of money and buy many pairs of shoes!

AND

10. If I know that Im doing the right thing, why is it so hard? Why is it so easy to justify smoking in my mind? Why do I feel like I have good non-smoking darcy on one shoulder and evil smoking darcy on the other...???

I figure I have 28 days to break this habit...wish me luck...I cant wait to make a big X on todays date....one more day over.....

Get the gum. GET THE GUM!

Here's my story. I had quite for a long time, then started again and had smoked this time for a few (several) years.

I had been thinking of quitting. I had been getting closer. The time was becoming right. Then I landed a new job on the 31st floor. I started the following month. The time was right.

I decided I was going to quit on January 7th, and would do so when my pack was empty. I kinda timed them so my last cigarette was just about after dinner. 7PM.

The next morning, I rose at 5AM as usual, showered and headed for the commuter rail train. I felt very angry. Not at anything in particular, I was just angry. I was feeling very out of sorts. I had quit before, but never had these mental effects. I remember thinking (as the train picked up some passengers): "Why isn't this damn train moving!?!?!?"... at one point my friend (and future boss!) said something (trying to be funny) and I replied (trying also to be funny) "Shut Up!" but I think it came out wrong, and he just said.... "ooooookkkkkkk' and put his nose into his newspaper.

I arrived at work at the usual 7AM. There was a large project underway, and there was a standing 8AM meeting of the department heads. During that meeting, someone said something inconsistent with something he had said before, and I took his head off as if with a shotgun: "That's NOT what you SAID BEFORE...blah blah"

I left that meeting, and KNEW that I had to do something or else I might actually hurt someone physically. I can't explain it, but I knew there was a real problem.

I walked to the nearest pharmacy, a CVS, and stood there in a very altered mind trying to decide how many pieces of gum to buy. I was conciously trying to take my time and be even handed about everything. I bought the 104 piece package of Nicorette Gum, paid for it at the pharmacy (Thankfully, no line!) and casually walked back to my office (a good 15 minute walk, by the way.)

I got back to my office, shut the door and opened the package. There was a thick instruction booklet. All I wanted to do was to learn how to "properly" chew the gum. I understood that you didn't just chomp away like on regular gum (I don't recall how I knew that, but I did), but I didn't know the right way. So I started reading.

Most of the book was all sales hype, marketing, and "You'll incerase your chances if you do this..." kind of stuff. Finally near the end, it told me how to chew the darn gum.

So I go to open the blister pack, and it's a childproof package. I can't get it open, as my hands, while not shaking, weren't cooperating very much, and I was trying very hard to not lose my patience. You can't push it through the package. Finally, after a few minutes of struggling, I got a piece out. (Notice that I couldn't even think clearly enough to simply slice the foil with a paperclip, pushpin, pen or any other of the myriad implements available in the common office space.)

I put it in my mouth and chewed according to the directions. Just about 2 minutes after, I could physically feel my body relaxing and my anger lever was draining just like someone had pulled a plug. It was the oddest -and most welcome- sensation I've ever had.

That was almost exactly 10AM. I had another piece at Noon (as per directions and the way I felt).

I had another piece at 6PM, and another at 6AM the next day. That was it. I now had 100 pieces extra. I never touched another piece of gum, nor another cigarette, cigar, chewing tobacco nor anything else that might somehow lead back to addiction.

Good luck with your quit. I tried several times before this latest one. I have faith that you can do it! If you want to chat about it in a more private setting, feel free to drop me a line. I'll be glad to help in any way that I can.

At the rate that I was smoking multiplied by the number of days since I quit, I have not smoked about 110,000 cigarettes. That's 550 cartons! Can you believe it?

I quit when I got pneumonia in January. I was smoking with an inhaler in the oposite hand so I coould take a drag off my smoke, then the inhaler! Talk about rock bottom. It hurt so much to smoke I had to stop and after I stopped for a week, it seemed dumb to start again. Let me rephrase that, I would've been happy to start again but I didn't want to hear everyone tell me how dumb I was for starting again.

The empty hand thing is the worst part I think. But, I think the best part if being able to walk in a room and not have people smell you before they see you. I hated reeking of smoke. And it's true, you probably will get more work done. Sad as it is, I almost never take breaks anymore. Sometimes I'll go for a walk instead but, oddly, I feel like I shouldn't be wasting time doing nothing. At least when I smoked, it felt like there was a reason to be out there!
Good for you Darcy!! *You can Dooo it!* (Taco Bell dog voice)
We're all pulling for you, Darcy! Just be like the little engine that could - "I think I can, I think I can."
Chris
:clappurple: Go Darcy! Go Darcy! Go Darcy!!!!! I'm rooting for ya!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Karen :)
Darcy, you 'll be fine. I know you can do this! And if you need a distraction to keep your hands busy I can bring Bailey over and we'll let him drink water in the house this time... you'll be so busy following after him with a paper towel that you won't have time to think about cigarettes  We're free all weekend...
I stopped a year and half ago the first month really hard used patches and lozenges the quit smoking ones. Thats when I got Dougal could not get up hills without breathing heavy okay now. Keep your hands busy make a patchwork quilt for local oap home. Learn to draw concentration needed, you can do it I smoked 40 a day I do not miss it, change your routine the times when you smoke. good luck pepe
I don't smoke so I don't know firsthand how hard it is to quit, but my husband smokes, and my 2 sisters smoke!! I have watched them quit and restart several times, hang in there Darcy!! Both my mom and dad have quit and stayed nonsmoking, although my mom now is addicted to the gum (she has been chewing the gum for many years now, what's with that??) My husband, Brian, has been talking about quitting again, but I know that he has to want to and my nagging won't work. I think you should definitely buy yourself a new pair of shoes every week or so as a reward

Sharon
Ron, I KNOW exactly what you mean...I feel frustrated and angry for no reason....I told my boss and he said he would quit too...so all day we have been yelling at each other :D thank goodness we can smile through the yelling!!!! I have quit before so I know I can do it again...this time just seems so much harder...or is it like child birth? you just forget how hard it was??????

Sue, thanks your a doll....I may take you up on the Bailey thing :D Washing floors after Bailey would be an all day/night event...totally keep me busy!!!!!

Anyone have any ironing that needs to be done? I have lots of time now!
Darcy,my best friend is trying to kick the habit also.I smoke, but I just smoke like a pack every 2days,so Im putting them down w/ her.She smoked marbarlo reds, one after another, and BOY has she had the toxins coming out of her body.Yesterday she felt weak, and tired, and crabby, but today is better for her.So Darcy YOU CAN DO IT!!!I quit cold turkey about 3yrs ago after having an aweful lung virus, and of course I picked it back up when I started working at the nursing home. Now I can say Im kicking it for good.My best friend and I are joining a gym and i know this will help big time for her(and me).We are all roooooooooting for ya hun!!!!GO YOU!! :clappurple:
Tanyathenurse
I am not/never was a smoker, but maybe if you get something to hold in your hands (think Bob Dole with his pen) to just trick them into being occupied might trick your brain? I could be just talking nonsense, though...maybe like one of those mini stress relieving balls or something...

Good Luck! You can do it and it will be hard but so worth it.

It's been interesting to me, having lived in CA my whole life, where they do not allow you to smoke in restaurants or bars, and to have that be the majority mentality, to have recently moved to VA, the smoking capital of the world, where the non smokers are looked at strangely...
I chewed on plastic straws for awhile-- I didn't even realize I was doing it. James still, after quitting for almost 4 years, always walks around with a pen in his mouth. I mentioned something today about smoking and he said he never thought about it anymore... as he munched on the pen. :)
:clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:

YAY DARCY

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One day at a time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are HERE FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple:
I forgot to add, Darcy..

My hubby quit smoking twice- both times cold turkey. Once in his late teens. Then when he got posted in Bosnia, he took it up again, as did most of the guys who went over there (seems as if the military promotes tobacco use, this makes me sad... Almost all of Mike's Guard buddies picked it up while in the service). He quit again before coming home-(I threatened to not let him into the house if he didn't give it up) and I hope he'll be smoke free for life now! If my honey can do it, gosh darn it girl, so can you!!! :D

Karen :)
I've never been a smoker either, but I can still cheer you on!! :D

You're a strong willed person, Darcy. You can do this for yourself, your husband, family and PANDA!!

Good Luck! We're believing you can!

Ditto! I'm sending positive vibes your way! I really hope this time is the last time. Say NO to lung cancer!!
NO NO NO :D :D :D
Okay Darcy, you've inspired me to QUIT AGAIN!! I smoked for many years (Marlboro reds), quit for 5 years :D and started again last May 23rd :( The first time was pretty easy so....

What I did last time was put the money I didn't spend in an envelope, each week I would treat myself to something "free", books, candles, DVD's, great bath stuff, bigger clothes

YOU CAN DO IT AND SO CAN I!!!!!
I've never smoked a cig in my life, but my lungs are probably black from being around my parents & grandparents smoking, lol

Best of luck to you!!! We're here to give ya all the support ya need!
I know I don't say it enough but thank God you guys are going to quit!!!!

I don't smoke and only smoked casually in college, maybe one cigarette in a weekend. I know I don't comprehend exaclty how hard it is but I've had so many people in my life be affected by smoking that I hope I can be of some support to you guys.

I'm really proud of you all for taking that first step. You do have to do it for yourself, something else can spur you into action but you really have to want to do it. It seems like there is some pretty strong conviction already.

So let us know if there is specific support that you need. I have tons of ironing and am really good at wrinkling stuff so come on up. If need be, I can ship it down to you!

Rah Rah Rah!!! Go team! (That's my best impression of a cheerleader. )
Darcy,

Good luck, as a smoker I know how hard it is to quit. First time I quit was due to an accident that landed me in the hospital for 8 weeks in traction. During the initial (the worst) stage of quitting, I was being treated with better drugs than tobacco, such as morphine, etc.......so I slept through the hardest part.

But, they made the mistake of letting me out of bed and sending me home, where I had access to the fridge. After gaining a few pounds, if you call 20- 30 a few, I decided I'd rather smoke than continue that. DUH!!! So, after about a year, puff puff.

When I started back up again, I eventually was smoking twice as much as before I quit. It's like someone on a diet. You loose 20 lbs., and regain 40..... The old body wants to make sure it stores up for a rainy day in case you ever decide to shock it like that again.

The body fends for itself, regardless of whether its a good thing for it or not. Which makes our addictions both mental and physical. Our body fights against our brain (thought process.) After you've got it under control, everything switches. Your brain begins telling you that you want/need this substance (whatever it is,) but your body no longer requires/needs/wants it. Now it's a mental thing. :(

Second time I tried, I woke from a sound sleep with the thought, "I want a cigerette." I thought that's stupid and went back to sleep. But, that experience gave me a better understanding of someone with an alcohol problem. For two years I fed that hand root beer and pretzels. Wow, when the sweats got tight, well...............you got it, haven't tried since then.

Darcy, I wish you and everyone else the best of luck. PRAY. Don't switch one habit for another!!! Refuse temptation. And, pray for me as well, that I might be able to one day not only quit, but want to quit as well.
Well, I can't say that today is better than yesterday, but it is no worse....I just was telling Sue (Baileys Mom) ...I feel lost...when I get done with a chore, I usually have a cigerette...I dont know what to do now......I snapped at Brian this morning over something really dumb...We had to take out a 65 yr old olive tree..the front yard now looks naked....lol..anyway, he bought a chinese elm to replace it. I thought he was going to plant it in the same spot....he said no...the roots, bla, bla, bla..so I just lost it.....I stopped and realized that I had gone off the smoking deep end....just call me a geek :? My next door neighbor looked at me and asked "Did you quit too?" I just smiled and she said she was going inside and locking her door :D I dont blame her!!! I think I am going to take Panda on my errands with me...It different, and I think I need to break old routines.....
i've been thinking of ways to quit without actually killing someone (after a couple hours, the kids AND dogs are hiding from me)..... 8O and its amazing what few words of encouragement can do for someone

Darcy and everyone else that is quitting smoking, congrats! and my hat off to you!!! and those that are and have quit, you are an inspiration to many of us here.
just thought everyone should know that I really really want a cigerette, but instead I made myself an alcoholic icecream drink....I really dont know which is worse....lol....I took Panda for a walk, but she ended up taking me for a dive....she went after some cats on a yard that I didnt notice and wham....down I went....what I wouldnt have done for a cigerette right then and there........sitting on someones lawn with dirty knees ( no jokes, please) just puffing away.....sigh....I didnt but I did picture it.....have I told all of you "Thank You" for listening to my ramblings....I hope they will get less as the days go by, but for right now, I almost feel like crying..............
Don't cry, it gets easier. I, on the other hand, smoked all day because I forgot I was going to quit  I just remembered when I saw your post. So now I smoke AND am senile
The potential is there that if you quit smoking you'll increase blood circulation to your brain and improve your memory.
Nudge, nudge.

Darcy, maybe you need one of those dolls that you can tear apart. Rip the arms and legs and head off then they velcro back on. Maybe a good physical outlet that didn't involve dirty knees  will help.
Darcy -- keep rambling! It keeps your hands busy! I know this has got to be the hardest time -- hang in there!! Don't give in! I find that doing a bit of knitting really helps relieve stress and restless anxiety. It diverts attention to something mindless and repetitive. And you end up with nice gifts. Maybe there's something like that you could take up for when you need a quick chill (although ice cream drinks might be more immediately satisfying). Maybe Panda would like more brushing? There is this crazy show I see sometimes called something like crafters across america. I am always amazed by how much time people devote to bizarre art projects -- they spend hours working on things that I would just want to throw away. But I think there is tremendous peace in busy work.

Best wishes!!
Val, Ive seen that show too....I wish I could knit, but no one will show me...my niece was going to and then she moved back to Indiana....

I got up early today and walked Panda, saw those darn cats again, but I was ready this time.....I got to work really early...its funny because I used to sit outside and have a smoke before I came to work and today I just left...I got here 20 minutes earlier than normal and Im always early as it is...lol....all this time.......

Thanks again for letting me "lose'' it last night...im sure that there is more to come!!
Darcy, you're an inspiration. I don't smoke but I have a few equally unhealthy habits that I really need to give up. I've been spending a lot of time thinking about the 28 days...
Hey Darcy, how did your weekend go?

At midnight last night I drowned my remaining cigarettes. Threw away most of my lighters(saved a few for candles). Since I'm in my truck 2 hours each day I bought some new CD's so I can sing instead of smoke. Well, I shouldn't say sing, that would be an insult to those with talent :D

Any tricks you want to share?
Holly - congrats on your attempt! Here's hoping that you can make it all the way through quitting!

Darcy - make it through the week-end unscathed?? Still pulling for you!

Chris
The week end went pretty well..I did cheat once  but it actually tasted gross...so I think im doing okay...still one day at a time!!! Good for you...I couldnt find any fire balls, but ginny's idea is a good one...I bought some dentine cinnamon fire gum....that seems to help...and taking Panda for lots of walks.....Good for you...keep it up!!!
Yay Darcy! Yay Holly! Keep up the good work!
Alright Holly!!!!!!!
Sing all you want. If it means you're not smoking who cares what you sound like.

Good work on the weekend Darcy! No more cheating, not that you'd want to after having the gross cigarette. Stick with it. I'm sure Panda is greatful for the extra walks and attention.

WooHoo everybody!!!!

I still have one every once in awhile to remind myself that I don't like it. Once you stop, and try to again, you wonder what you saw in it in the first place. Of course, I'm the person who presses on bruises to make sure that they really hurt. I just can't leave well enough alone.
Jill, you dont really press your bruises, do you??? My stepdaughter does that....that's a really strange habit :?

I just really dont remember it being this hard the last time I quit...Brian seems to be back to normal, but I still feel grumpy....I go to the personal trainer tommorrow...so instead of complaining about not having a cigerette, Ill be complaining about not being able to move...lol...at least I dont have to climb stairs....
Yay Holly Yay Darcy!! :clappurple:

Good luck with the trainer Darcy.... oooowwwwww..... lol

I do. Sadly, it's one of less strange habits. 8O

Working out helps a lot. Lately I've gotten really excited about swimming and I'm going tonight to pick up a suit that I can actually swim in and will stay on for lap swimming! I've found picking another activity and unhealthily obsessing about it works well. ;)
Well Darcy, if you really need something to keep you busy, and keep your mind off of cigarettes...

You can ALWAYS fly over to MN and help me remodel my kitchen!
Seriously- you'd be soooo busy you wouldn't have TIME to think about smoking, and all your lighters would be at home, several states away  J/K! (umm... well, maybe not?)

I don't really have any other advice, since I never smoked- but you guys are doing great!!! Keep on truckin!

Karen :)
Day 2: I'm pretty sure everyone I've come in contact with over the last 2 days is still alive  Not too bad, a little edgy today, and my singing isn't getting any better :D I think after day 3 it gets much easier.
I'm really proud of y'all for quitting!! I know it is hard to break physical addicitions and I think you're all just TOPS for doing this for yourselves!!

Keep it up!!
WTG girls!! You're doing awesome.
Hi all you non smokers now, HUGE WELL DONE, keep going folks if I did it I know you can. If you all keep to it I wiil donate £20-00 to cancer research here. Week before christmas. luv pepe
Yeah Pepe!!! :P
Girls--that's good incentive, right?
Donations to good causes is always a great incentive!!!!! Thanks Pepe!
Im on my way to the gym...I may be a pretzel when I get back...lol..hard body here I come!
You're on Pepe :D Going into day 6 and still surviving YEAH!!!
after workout update....OMG...im so sore.....I kept waking up last night every time I moved....I cant move my arms, my back or legs...owwwww...its a good hurt though....I just forgot how much it hurts...lol....I was told that I have good arm and leg stregnth but no core strength....she did have me in prezel positions.....darn that big ball..its not so easy to balance on as it looks... :D
Darcy, how are you today? It's always worse the next day :(
I had to roll out of bed...lol....you'll see tonight.....slow but steady...my stomach hurts the most!!
ROCK HARD ABS---they're on their way!
They're poking through the fine layer of fat :D I have 3 weeks till San Diego...anyone know if its possible to look amazing in three weeks?
You look amazing already!
Awww Ron, Thanks!
 Hmmm... I doubt it, but you look fine as is!
I went to see a nutritionist today to see if I can figure out why I can't seem to shave off 20 lbs... and was told I don't eat enough, so my metabolism has slowed down to almost non existent. She feels I get plenty of exercise and eat the right foods but not frequently enough, and I don't drink enough water, I drink too much coffee. She suggested a chromium supplement to help tone up skin among other things. *sigh* To sign up for the program to lose 20 lbs would cost me 300 for membership, and another 90 a week for the pills, herbal supplements etc.
I think I will just try to do my own thing, try to eat more frequently, do some weight training in addition to all the walking I already do... maybe cut back of coffee a bit and try to drink more water.
Stacey, youre a coffeeholic right?! You drink it all day long and into the night...try drinking green tea at night instead...and for every coffee you drink, have a glass of water. I would eat six small meals that way you are constantly burning calories...eat more protein...yes you can do it..fish or eggs if you dont want meat...cut out a lot of your pasta (gasp) keep to your fresh veggies...and walk a lot...youre one step ahead of me, so I know you can do it...idea for meals
1. 2 eggs and yogurt, one, okay 2 cups of coffee
2. fruit salad small about 1c
3. large salad with meat one roll or cracker
4. pasta (no more than 2 c)
5. meat and veggies small amount
6. yougurt

try to eat the carbs and sugar(fruit) earlier in the day rather than later. your last two meals of the day should be your lightest...anyone a nutritionist out there to help a little more????
I just noticed this forum tonight!

CONGRATS!

Colleen and The Gooch...Cheering for you all!
WAHOOO! ONE WEEK-NO SMOKING :clappurple:

I am, however, actually turning into a chocolate bar
Way to GO!! One week smoke free!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D
chocolate cookies and cheddar cheese have been my 2 foods of choice..and no, not at the same time....
Why not at the same time?? I've got a great recipe for Fudge that includes cheese!! Very delicious!! :D
okay Tammy...that sounds very interesting...is it cream cheese or is it cheddar? I cant picture cheddar and chocolate together....post the recipe and I take a stab at it... :D
actually it's Velveeta...but I think that still counts as cheese. I will post it for you. It's amazing how smooth it makes the fudge and you'd NEVER know it to taste it.

I make it during the holidays and everyone is always shocked to hear what's in it.
sounds kinda like my guacamole recipe...instead of sourcream I use mayo, which doesnt sound good but it makes it taste really creamy
Chocolate :?: Did someone say CHOCOLATE :?: :?: WHERE :?:
Holly, congrats on one week smoke-free!! And Darcy, this makes week two for you, right? We're all so proud of both of you! Keep up the good work!!
Chris
Best Wishes to everyone on kicking the cigarette habit!

Very proud of you, you're all doing great!!!

Cheers for your progress!!! :clappurple: :clappurple:
my dad likes hot apple pie with a slice of cheddar on top, with ice cream on the side...we think he's crazy!
eeeewwwww velveeta and chocolate..... 8O
I know it sounds just AWFUL...but I promise you you'll never know it when you taste it! :D

I'm posting the recipe in the cooking section. Try it! :D
Okay, Im fessing up..Ive been cheating...I bought a pack this past weekend...so yesterday, I bought the patch....darn, now I have to start all over....why is it one step forward and two steps back...???? I will quit...especially since everyone is routing for me, I dont want to let all of you down and I just really want to quit...Im sorry...
Don't beat yourself up, Darcy!!

It's a VERY tough thing you're doing. It may take some time, but you have the determination and the will power to stop.

Plus...the all important factor...you can't let Brian beat you! :D
You're right...boys arent better :D I promise I will lick this nasty habit!
just restart no problem. use your patches if you get really stressed use extra help gum or lozenges. just say right i,ll have another go. luv pepe
Hi Darcy and Holly,

Way to Go!!!! Keep it up!!!

Darcy don't see it as a failure....you just had a relapse. Keep it up!! I'm with you guys all the way!!!
Darcy and Holly - way to go!! One day at a time . . . :clappurple:

Darcy, it's not the end of the world that you "cheated." Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. (Can't remember which old song that's from.)

Chris
Well, today just finished 5 full days with no cigerette...I honestly know I will do it now! My boss just came in from outside after having a smoke...and he smells.....I can actually smell it again...lol....
WTG Darcy!
Yeah Darcy!!!!!!

That first time, before the relapse, was just practice. Now you're ready for the real thing. WooHoo! Keep up the good work!
'Atta girl, Darcy! :clappurple: You can do this! You'll probably find now that you're more sensitive to the smell of smoke on others than non-smokers are. Hope it continues to smell yucky to you! Keep up the great work!!
Chris
We're so PROUD of you, Darcy!! Way to go!! :clappurple: :clappurple:
still holding strong.....its not so bad now....only occasionally do I think about it.................
Yipii!!! Way to go Darcy!!

<<It's day 8 for me now..still holding strong.

Even one puff for me and I know it's game over..so I am drinking tons of water..small sips..have a water bottle in my hand constantly..lol up to 5 bottles daily now. Never thought I'd be drinking that much water!!! Still it's a good substitute.

Few more hours and I'll be on my ninth day...tell myself one day at a time. I'm proud of you Darcy..you got the ball rolling. :O)

Marianne
Proud of you, too, Marianne!! Nine days is fantastic!!! :clappurple:
Marianne, you should be very, very proud of yourself!!!! I havent gone to water yet. Im on SQUIRT....diet...I do need to drink more water....
Hooray Darcy and Marianne!! That's terrific! Hang in there. . . I'm so optimistic for you both!! :bdcake: :clappurple: :!:
Thanks!! :D :D :D :D

I feel like singing James Brown...I FEEL GOOD!!!

I have smoked for soooooo many years and now even this short period of time being smoke free.... have never felt this well in many years!!! It's amazing how disgusting that smell is Darcy and those of you that don't smoke...YUCK! I too have finally got my sense of smell back...and am very horrified I smelt like that all my teens and adult life.

Bestdogs..if you are out there I sent a note to you via email encouraging you...but so distracted..I sent it to my own email addy...LOL.

Read many online sites and research has shown...Zyban taken along with a patch...is shown to be 52% effective.

Patch alone..34%

Zyban...22%

Gum and other products...aprox same as the patch.

I KNOW I WILL NEVER SMOKE AGAIN
<<<says this more for self :D

Marianne
Yeah really, where is Holly? How's your singing coming along? I'll come to Sheepiefest if we all have nonsmoking rooms!! (Hint, hint!)
3 WEEKS THIS SUNDAY!!!!

Mandy, I got a no smoking room for sheepiefest, I'll add another room if you're coming(as a bribe I'll bring the boots) and I won't even subject you to my singing
Good Job!!!! I cant believe we're all doing this.....we need to have a nonsmoking party!!!!!!! 11 days and holding strong.........
How is everyone holding up? I'm so happy for everbody!!! Keep on trucking guys!

Karen :)
One month today :)
Hey there Darcy, i quit one week ago and im useing the 4mg gum,i crave very rarely and I have not cheated once ive really had no desire too but ive been smoking for over 20 years so i had and have the addiction very bad,but after being diagnosed with a lung disease getting my first grandaughter well that was all i needed to persuade me to quit put it in your mind that you will not accept failing at this because the alternative is a shorter life and everyone who has smoked for years knows what types of affects it has on our bodies and our lives...Im behind you 100 % Darcy if you have not tried the gum try it the patches did not work for me but the gum has done wonders..Myself and my wife will be going on our very first smoke free vacation this comen friday and we have been married 21 years come july 12th.Another reason im quitten is I wouldnt mind doen another 21 years with that ole gal but im not tellen her that.hehehe
Ahhh Geneo...that truely is a good reason why...Im still going back and forth....This second time quitting is so much harder...I quit for 10 yrs and started a few yrs ago and have failed to quit...I hate it, I hate how it smells, and I hate hiding it...I feel like a paraha....gum and patches didnt seem to work, but then again my motivation seems to waver too....sigh...Im proud of you...and hopefully Ill be right behind you...I think I need Mandy or someone to sit on me for two weeks till the craving passes... :?
Keep up the great work everyone!!!

Ummmmm, yes?
Good Luck Darcy..

I quit for a year, then started up again for a couple years.

Then I met my Wife (Through an Ebay Transaction) and had to try to hide it for awhile.

I was finally able to quit for good? 5 years ago before our Son was born, by telling myself this Cigarette wouldn't have to be the last..I'd bum one off a co-worker once a month whether I wanted one or not.

Then, 6-8 Cigarettes (months) later, I could't stand the queezyness or smell, or taste of even one...I had another one 4 months ago, just to remind myself how bad they are...

Even after reading all this, I have no desire to even be around 2nd hand smoke.. and seeing someone smoke on tv doesn't automatically make me think about lighting up one for myself.

Good luck to you all!
It can be done

-Jamie
Darcy you ca do it!!

I have faith in you!!!!!!
