What happens when an OES eats an entire bag of oreo cookies?

This weekend I bought a bag of oreo cookies, a real treat around my house. I am generally very health conscious about the food I eat and buy and very seldom buy any kind of sweets. But it was a stressful week and decided to treat myself (and Doug) to a bag of oreos.

For those of you who haven't followed my ramblings you may or may not remember that LAST week I was whinning about Tasker's case of the runs after returning from 6 days at a new kennel where they insisted on feeding their own food.

Monday I arrived home from work to discover that my counter surfing pup had snagged the bag of oreos off theof the toaster UNOPENED and eaten the ENTIRE BAG.

The oreos hit the colon at 6:25 last night and it wasn't a pretty sight!!!! We've been in and out of the house all night anddI've done more butt washing than the local car wash  Just thought I share with ya'll :D

Note to self**** next time lock up oreos

I'm glad your surfer-kid reacted okay to all that human food. :)

I love how animals probably think all the stomach ache and toots are worth any amount of human food. ;)
You are not alone Taskers Mom....Going through the same thing with Beau. I don't know what he got into. He's not a counter surfer (yet) thou, his big sister Mollie was

Anyway, not fun time for us or the furkids.

Note to all Sheepie owners: Lock up anything that could be eaten as food!

Zippy got ahold of one of Icarus' seed brick treats that I had left by his cage, planning on giving it to him later on. When we came home, we found the empty stick and Zippy with that "look" on her face *I know I did something wrong but I love you*
Maybe you should have gotten the Double Stuff. More binding!

Have you tried immodium?
We used immodium all last week after the kennel disaster so I hesitated to give it to him again but if he's still "loose" tonight I'll give it to him again. At least his poor little butt is still shaved close from last week :?
Are you fasting him for 24 hours along with the immodium? It shouldn't take more than one dose, maybe two, if he's fasting. Then after 24 hours start him back on kibble slowly.... that's what my vet has always recommended and it has always worked for us.
Poor Tasker.....You think he learned his lesson?....Naaaw, your right, he would do it again in a heart beat :D Panda garbage picked and ate 2 lambchop bones...woke in the middle of the night to chomping.....great!

Haven't fed him today. Not even white rice? He's going to be sooooo mad!!!
Peanut ate a bag of Oreos a couple of years ago,
Luckily he has an iron stomach and can eat anything..
Except Pork. I think he's allergic to it. He always get a seizure as soon as he eats it.
Hope Tasker is feeling better soon!

Well that's up to you, but my vet always recommends fasting, no food just water for 24 hours to clear it up quickly and give his digestive system time to heal after being irritated. That's for cases when they have just eaten something bad for them, if it were a case of a flu like virus, they can't let them go too long without food as they need more nutrition to fight off whatever they have, that's when the hamburger and rice, or even just rice would be recommended.
Every dog is different, some respond better and more quickly to certain kinds of foods and treatments than others... hopefully it will pass quickly and he'll be back to his old self in no time. :)
OK.............well I'll tell him "it's for his own gooooooooood" :?
Not much to add here... I hope he's feeling better now.

Every time my guys overindulge in something they found from the counter, Imodium and a couple of tums do the trick. For some reason tums seem to ease their tummy aches and it gives them time to feel better. White rice or chicken soup also makes them feel better.
My vet has always told me to feed Bunker Pablum and baby food when the iron stomach acts up. (She usually can eat anything). I call her garbage guts.

Sometimes I swear she makes her self sick just so she can get pablum. Good luck trying the fed my nieces and nephews that. When you make it for the kids, she thinks it for her. She sits right beside them waiting and drooling. She then licks their hands and faces.
heheheheh, I'm not real sure what pablum is but sound yuckey :x . Tasker seems to have recovered. Yesterday all he got was water and immodium, I did feel sorry for him and give him a rice cake  last night. Tonight he ate dinner with gusto :D and seems to be fine.
Pablum is rice cerel for babys. Really gross, but she goes crazy when she sees the box.
Ginny,
I was going to ask the same question.
Thanks casearoo for the answer.
I have never heard of Pablum before.
Well I've heard of Rice Cereal for babies, but never heard it called pablum.
Elissa
I have heard pablum referred to in sayings but was never really sure what it was.
I know why we haven't heard of it... It's Canadian
I found this definition:
Pablum was a cereal for infants marketed by the Mead Johnson Corporation. Invented in 1930 by three Canadian pediatricians Frederick Tisdall, Theodore Drake, and Alan Brown, Pablum marked a breakthrough in nutritional science. Although it was not the first food designed and sold specifically for babies, it was more popular and successful than prior products in an era when infant malnutrition was still a major problem in industrialized countries.
I think I have hear boring reading referred to as "pablum".

I just thought pablum was what everyone called it, and that every baby's first food was pablum.
I had no idea it was a Canadian thing...
My mom calls it Pablum.....I grew up in MI...maybe she picked it up from my french canadian grandmother....Jill, Jil do you guys call it pablum or at least have heard of it called that???
That sounds like a disease to me. I never heard of it!
What happens when an OES eats an entire bag of Oreo cookies? When caught, he or she looks at you sheepishly, and asks, "Where's the milk?"

Ok guys and gals, Got a question. I've heard chocolate can kill a dog. So, thank God Oreo's aren't chocolate, and Tasker's ok!!!

Seriously, what chocolate would be fatal? Mine have stolen candy bars, eaten cherry pies, a night light - light bulb, etc..... with no problems whatsoever.

Is it just "sometimes" fatal or is there one specific type that's fatal to all? From what I heard, I thought it was all chocolate. Thought I just got lucky when mine ate the candy bar. Glad it doesn't seem like all types, for the sake of all dogs that's tried it. Thanks.
Actually the purer the chocolate the more harmful it is. It takes a LOT to kill a dog, but even a little can give them an upset tummy.
Thanks Willowsprite. By the way they make it sound, a bite would be enough to do em' in. Suppose it could some, always the exception to the rule...........especially when you see what some dogs call "bitesize."
Poor guy. I hope he's feeling better.
I've heard the bigger the dog, the more chocolate it would take to kill them, but it really would have to be LOTS of chocolate.
My friend's pug ate and entire 1 pound bag of Hershey kisses (wrappers included) and he didn't even get an upset tummy. (He pooped tinfoil for days, though!)
I'd always read that it's theobromine ( think that's how it's spelled), which is in the family of caffeine, that is toxic to dogs. The darker the chocolate, the more caffeine and, therefore, most toxic.

I found this formula online:
Using a dose of 100 mg/kg of theobromine as the toxic dose it comes out roughly as:
1 ounce per 1 pound of body weight for Milk chocolate
1 ounce per 3 pounds of body weight for Semisweet chocolate
1 ounce per 9 pounds of body weight for Baker's chocolate.
I also heard that onions were bad for Dogs. Anyone else?
Don't know if onions are bad for them or not, but mine never picked it off the bites of my hamburer sandwiches I'd give them. If I forgot to take the extras off before giving them the meat and bread, the only thing they left on the floor was the tomato.
Yes. I never risk foods that can be dangerous. Oh course I can understand our doggies not agreeing and helping themselves from the counter or food left unattended. harrrr

Like onions, grapes, chocolate, garlic (despite it being in dog food), and I do not subscribe to giving them milk at all (though some do since their animals don't have a reaction to a little).

Basically, any food (which is a lot) that is mostly made up of preservatives, salt, fat, and sugar. PIZZA crust is a good example of food that is not good.

Their bodies cannot digest the salt and other bad things as easily as our bodies can. ...which may result in pancreatis and kidney problems later in life. Not to mention the obvious upset stomach or weight gain and a lot of the foods in the categories I mentioned, do not contain anything nutritional.

edit: Our animals get raw vegetables and fruits :)
It's also being found that the husks of the cocoa plant are as bad if not worse than the fruit.
My in-laws live in Hershey and the plant sells off the husks to landscaping companies who make cocoa mulch. Smells great, like spraying your house with choclate all summer but turns out that eating even a little bit (unsure of exact measures) of the mulch can be lethal to dogs. Many local townships are putting out warnings about the mulch to residents.
