I'd really like to know how to make Jello shots. It never sets when I make it. Too much alcohol?? Elissa |

Is it possible to have too much? |
Elissa, use the hot water accordingly then when you are supposed to add the ice..use alcohol instead....it take longer to gel....but really yummy! |
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO my favorites!
Actually, each alcohol affects how they will set differently. I find really sweet liquers, like midori or amarretto need a little less alcohol in the mix, or they stay too syrupy. For most I use slightly less water than it calls for (3/4) cup, dissolve really well, and then only a half cup of whatever alcohol (vodka, rum, etc) and then ice. Less potent, but they seem to set better, and the potency doesn't matter much if you make 100 or so...lol.... |
Hmmm.. just looking at this... not sure if it will meet Ron's family friendly rating approval? |
Fine by me (hic) *hic*
(Of course I'm pretty much a tea-totaller, but as far as I can tell Jello is a legal substance) |
Make one pkg of jello according to pkg directions
while chilling drink alcohol of your choice, in shots. |
Tasker's Mom wrote: Make one pkg of jello according to pkg directions

I do them the way Darcy does - I'll put whatever alcohol I'm using in the freezer so that it's cold, dissolve the gelatin with the recommended amount of hot water, then replace the recommended amunt of cold water with cold alcohol. Vodka and Rum seem to work best, although bourbon goes well with Cherry. Syrupy liquors don't work as well. We tried really hard to find a way to make Bailey's jello shots (my friends and I love Baileys) but never could get it to jell. Flavored rums and vodkas are great: Pineapple jello and coconut run Orange jello and Stoli orange vodka Lime jello and Absolut Citron or Bacardi Limon Actually the toughest part is getting acceptable shot cups. I have a hard time finding soft ones so I typically use the hard plastic shot glasses from the liquor store and set out toothpicks so people can run them around the sides to loosen up the jello. |
Little medicine cups that the hospitals use work great, you can get them at the pharmacy. They squish the jello right out. LOL |
Wow, Thanks all. Dopey me substituted all the water for alcohol. Oops
No wonder it never set. Ginny, I love you directions lol Sue, Thanks for the flavor suggestions. Elissa |
Good Memories, bad headaches |
This topic has been an eye opener for me: I had never heard of these before. They might be fun at Halloween and Xmas in the appropriate colours! Cheers. Lynda alias Willoughby's Mom (He's fine: growing like a weed!) |
Use 2 oz souffle cups from any restaurant supply...about 2.50 for 100. They are very hard to find in the summer |
Ahh, jell-o shots! Reminds me of college! |
Lynda, we always made them in cordinating colors for parties. I used to have an annual Mardi Gras party with jello shots in purple, green and yellow! |
I make about 100 jello shots at a time for my golf league...I'm told they're pretty good.....and here's how it goes...
The Jello Jiggler recipe calls for 4 small boxes or 2 large boxes of jello and add 2.5 cups boiling water. forget the water and use 3 cups of alchohol..never had a problem with them setting up. Best recipes are: A) 2cups peach schnaaps and 1 cup vodka mixed with orange jello. B) 2cups watermelon schnaaps and 1 cup vodka mixed with watermelon jello. C) 3cups Jose Cuervo Margarita mixed with lime jello. I buy my 1oz plastic cups at Gordon Food...also I've found that if you spray the cups with a little "Pam" cooking spray the jello slides right out... |
My friend is having an Octoberfest party next weekend, I'm going to try to make the tequila jello shots, much tastier than German beer, I bet I'll just do a trial batch this weekend! |
ha ha! Samples! Licking the bowl!
Life is good. |
Now, this is a thread. Thanks for all the recipes, we make them for each tailgate and load them in 10cc syringes! No mess and fully executable!! |
Not sure if I should post this... BUT a similiar recipe are Rummy Bears. Easy recipe, take a big bag of gummy bears, marinate them in a punch bowl full of rum for 24 hours, voilĂ , Rummy Bears! Er, one issue I've had with them... a number of years ago we had a big house-warming party for our first house, it was a big affair--big families, lots of friends, lots of kids... The big punch bowl of Rummy Bears was out on the table with bowls of chips, cheese, crackers etc, with no warning that they were Rummy Bears... nor was there any real strict supervision... turned out, some of Kim's 11-12 year old nieces and nephews enjoyed the Rummy Bears quite a bit... It's all fine, they're young adults now and they turned out mostly ok, mostly... |

I buy 2 of the bigger package of jello mix (any flavor will do) then i buy a fifth of bernetts flavored vodka (flavor that complements the flavor of jello i bought) boil 4 cups of water (always add a tiny bit more water because some of the water boils off) mix in the 2 lrg jello packets pour in the fifth of vodka (4 cups=1 fifth of vodka) then i pour them into small dixie cups, put in fridge for hr or two and you have VERY strong jello shots. All you really do is replace the cold water with vodka (incase you dont want to make that many jello shots) |
Glad Brenda pointed me over here for a laugh Gotta try The Rummy Bears! |
Hey Elissa...I think I need to come out for a visit now. Rum in mine please. |
