How do you guys get your dogs to cooperate when trimming

okay how do you guys get your dogs to cooperate when shaving the legs and bellys. My dogs give me such a hard time and when I am done my back is killing me. They both also seem to have a favorite side. I can do what ever I want on one side but the other they try to lay on.

I give Tasker lots of YUMMY TREATS, but they only work for just so long and just so far.
my back hurts too....I stand over her too get one side and lay under her to get the other....hence, the uneven hair cut.....
A grooming table does wonders to save your back, and helps to make the dog learn to stay still as well.
Hmmmmmmmmmm staying still while grooming, interesting concept.......must be a professional :D
Ha HA!! No, not professional. Actually, Diane Buckland gave me my grooming table when she came up the first time to give me grooming lessons. I LOVE it, it has been a lifesaver and I am totally and completely amazed by the difference of just having a proper grooming table.
I'm hoping it will be lucky too as it has had several serious champions groomed on it, including Dancer's grandpa, BIS,BISS,BPIS,Can.Mex. Americas, World '99, Ch. Woolliwoof Miracle Man. :D
I need a miracle table with Champian SPIRITS on it! Or a big rubber mallet...I'M ONLY JOKING! I just finished trying to trim the hair between Guc's pads and am just a LITTLE frusterated! 8O

I'm still waiting on a table, which I have decided is going to solve everything! 8) My husband is INSISTING that Ebay will come thru some day! GOOD GRIEF! :x Did I mention that he doesn't do any of the grooming? Maybe I should just order one from the pet supply house and SAY I got it from Ebay...is that wrong?

Yes, I am keeping plugged in as well for the answer to the wiggles!

Colleen and Gucci George=>Just wait until there are 2 of us to groom, we're going to send Mommy to the loonie bin  We're going to have so much fun!!!!
Go for the table! LOL
Colleen, as the "Queen of ALL THAT IS E-BAY" I can tell you that as I type this there are 27 items that pop up under "dog grooming table" on e-bay. GO FOR it, Ya never know (you can't win if you don't bid!!!!)
I've been bidding on grooming tables on ebay for over a month now and haven't won one yet. The price seems to go super high at the last minute. do we have a link for them through the forum? I think I'm going to break down and pay retail. 8O

Also, watch the shipping on some of those tables, I found one where they casually mentioned 60 bucks to ship. I don't think so!
EEEEK! I have found you have to be careful with e-bay on shipping and handling!!! I purchase a lot of doggie products from petedge.com. Have you thought of making one? I don't know what you are looking for in a gooming table (adjustable height vs fixed height etc)but one of my favoorite "McGyver" tricks around the house is to turn those odd lot counter tops that you can get at Lowes or any building store into "workbenches.

You buy the appropriate width, length and then make or buy the height legs you need and voila a table. I have one that I use for a computer table, another for a potting bench outside, I use one in my glass worshop for my glass grinder and Doug uses one for his tools. I don't know why a wide one couldn't be turned into a grooming table. A rubber mat to keep it from being slippery and legs and there you have it.

I guess I got up too early and have had tooo much coffee..................
Before I became a sheepie owner, I had constructed a fold up loading dock in the garage with ramp for unloading heavy items from my pickup on to a dolly to roll in the house (I had arthritic knees and both have since been replaced). Now I use it for grooming Barney and Maggie. It works great, but I'm going to build one for inside the house since it tends to be a bit warm grooming in the garage in the summer and will be too cold for the winter. Hint: get one at a height that you can easily sit on during those long dematting sessions
For those with bad backs or older/sick dogs, an electric table is a lifesaver. They are low enough that the dog can just step on and off, and you can raise it pretty high, or at chair level if you want to sit.
Col, I tell Brian that everything I buy is on sale.....ebay stuff too!!!! Go for it!!!! sssshhhhh, I wont tell..

P.S. Everyone else, BE QUITE, dont tell Brian, Ive got a good deal goin' on here!!!!
Darcy-

I tell my husband his mother bought it for me :D She's been VERY generous over the years. The best part is if he says anything to her I just say....remember when we were at(insert any store name)and you insisted on getting me this....and she says oh, of course, I had forgotten about that  She doesn't want anyone to think she's senile.

hahahaha....I love that! I pay cash for everything and tell him it was on sale.......

I've given up on hiding anything anymore. We've gotten huge packages in the mail literally everyday for past two weeks. It's tough to hide furniture-- especially when I need him to put it together, hang it, etc. I think he's happy that he doesn't have to shop for it although he told me I need to slow down. But again, I think it's because he's tired of working-- it has nothing to do with money. That and he says I have too much stuff and if I keep getting more stuff that we'll have to move to a bigger house. Ha, ha. My plan is working... I will get another puppy yet!
Puppy? Did I hear Jill say puppy

I want to move anyway so we might as well just get a really big house. The argument has been that we would need more room for another dog (which is not true anyway) but if we got something like, 1000 square feet bigger, of course there'd be more room. I even had him house hunting with me today! :) It will take time but it appears I've effectively planted the seed!
    Just plant the seed and watch it grow. Sounds like we have the same seed packet, I think mine is starting to sprout.
If you have any ideas for fertilizer, I'm open to that too...
My mom gave me good advice....She told me a mans mind was like a filing cabinet. lots of files, however, they can only pull one out at a time. They dont forget what you have asked them or told them, but until they are ready to pull that file out...nothing will be done...Brian just "pulled out" the furniture file....so I went shopping today and picked out a sofa..Ya have to move quick while that file is open...you dont know when they're going to put it back in the cabinet :D
Or forget where they put it

Jill, at my house a triple layer chocolate cake with buttercream frosting can work wonders, I make LOTS of them :D
HEHEHEHEH
I tell Doug everything on e-bay cost $10.00!!!
Of Course he KNOWS it didn't but it makes a good story!!!!!!!!!!!!
I suspect there is a hidden meaning in this thread: How to get your dog (husband) to cooperate (give in) while trimming (the bank account). Us guys are not that dumb! :D
   You're a wise man George!
I'm curious about the correct size of a proper grooming table for our sheepies? What dimensions are you looking for when you purchase? I've looked at one on PetEdge that seems like a good deal, but it's only 36" long, 24" wide. Is that big enough? Seems like it's kind of short to me. :?

I really want one. I'm using a folding "camping" table now and it's starting to bow under their weight...lol..plus, I'm tired of chasing them around on it...too big and no grooming arm to keep them in place. :D
I learned along time ago the way to household harmony......seperate bank accounts and split the bills down the middle. :D

Hi Tammy,
When I checked with the folks at Sett-R-Rite tables she
suggested the adjustable height table ~~~ 24"X 42"
for an Old English...
Thanks, Zahra. That's kind of what I was thinking, too...at least 42". I will have to re-think what I'm ordering. :)
