Help me stop this infernal itching!!!!! PLEASE.............. |
|
Benadryl internally and an anti-histamine cream of at least one percent externally. Also make sure you have thoroughly washed the area with lukewarm water and soap. You can put ice on it to help with the swelling and keep it elevated.
If the swelling gets to be too bad or you get a discolored foot or tingly toes you should have it seen immediately. I assume you had no breathing difficulties or hives or you should be at the hospital already! Hope you feel better! |
Oh my gosh... I'm from central tx and it feels like home of fire ants there. There's no enjoying a picnic ...ever.
Anyways, just wanted to say hope you feel better. I know how miserable I am. All I feel like doing is picking/scratching my swollen bites. My mom and I seem to be extremely allergic (more her than me). |
Darcy, you poor thing! Sorry to hear it, hope it gets better soon. The things we we suffer through for our Cute Shoes... |
Soooooooo sorry!!!!!!!!! Benadryl or any allergy (Zyrtec, Claritin etc) medication will help. Try some kind of soothing soak, oatmeal soak etc. even just a cool water bath should feel good. You might want to try lidocaine spray (the kind for sun burn) ALOE. Keep socks and stockings off it and keep it elevated. Prolonged standing will increase the circulation which will increase the swelling and buring. Keep it COOL. Calamine, caladryl lotion.
Xtra sympathy from you hubby, maybe a special dinner out at a really nice restaurant (where you can elevate your foot ) and a soothing back rub when you get home Bless your heart your poor thing! Nurse GInny |
Darcy,
We also use Benadryl when Ryan swells up after playing with the bees. It will bring down the swelling and help with the itching. Makes me really dopey though Hope you feel better soon! Elissa |
Well, I took some benadryl....Panda seems to like licking it and it's better than sitting and scratching it.....I know it sounds gross.....but its working...as for that special dinner, yeah RIGHT...lol....I wore flats today, and it looks nasty....oh well......thanks for all the help....by the way, that "after-bite" stuff doesnt work....the benadryl does!! |
Well, I just read an interesting article about Dog saliva making hair grow...................... so maybe it makes skin gnot itch too......... |
Glad the Benedryl helped some! |
Did anyone see that episode of Friends with the Jellyfish?
Maybe you have to pee on it! Darcy, no Jimmy Choos with a GANKLE! |
Hi Darcy,
Hope you are feeling better from the fire ant bite. Found this site with a suggestion to treat the bites using homeopathy. I'm sure you could find the treatment at your local health food store. Hope this helps..... www.drplayer.com/fireants.htm |
For itching, my favorite thing BY FAR is Scalpicin. It is for itchy scalps but it works great on everything because somehow the liquid gets right to the heart of the itch whereas creams and ointments always seem less effective. I use the extra strength version that is hydrocortisone. They have a different forumla with another ingredient that is not as good. Scalpicin is better than prescription meds for the eczema (which can be maddeningly itchy). You can find it near the dandruff shampoos. |
Okay...
Zahra...thanks for that site...at least Ill know what to do next time... Valerie..I think Im going to try to find that stuff....Im always being bitten. Col.....No sexy shoes until next week...although I have to say, I didnt have one charlie horse in my feet last night....must have something to do with wearing flats.....who knew???!!! Ginny...If dog salvia helps hair grow, how gross would it be to let Panda lick my head? Update...ankle is itching much less...but now it looks like I have white head zits all over my ankle....can I pop them? Im a picker....lol...When I was a teenager, why couldnt I have gotten pimples there instead of my forehead?...........lol....... |

Ewww..white head zits on your ankle huh? I get these little white bumps, not zits though, on my legs in the summer. I think it's from the Desert Sun...never had them before moving out here. I always pick at them or the razor will get them... YUCK!! Elissa |
Elissa, I think its where the ants actually bit me...like the center of a bee sting..... |
So how many bites did you get? |
Darcy, you asked for it................... so here it is:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1352067/posts Dave Barry has always been one of my favs!!!! I actually came across the study on dog spit and hair growth when investigating a post I recently posted under Grooming. Today when trying to find the study (for you ) I found this and thought this was perhaps more interesting . I hope I copied the link properly, I'm getting better at this computer stuff but I'm still not a WIZARD (like the all powerful RON) |
Elissa, I count 9 bites....not too bad, Ive had more...but 9 does make a nice swelling...lol
Ginny, thanks for the site...I am now going to put my lotion on in the car...I dont need to have my leg hair grow any faster..and Panda loves to lick lotion off of legs.....but, I am still thinking of having her lick my head |
Pustules last about 72 hour, break, crust and hopefully not leave scars OTC creams help a bit but the best advice was the Benadryl. The pustules are indicative of fire ants.......for future reference. Next time it might be a scorpion I hate the idea of sandals in the desert. |
I hate the idea of scorpions |
One year and 2 months living in the Desert for me and I have never seen a Scorpion. Fire Ants though...yes
The only Tarantula I saw was a dead one. I guess I have been lucky Elissa |
Ah, the tarantulas are cute! You usually just see the males in search of the females in their nest. We'd catch them and then put them in our insect petting zoo. They were great fun and only old George got mad at me and pinched me.......he was tired of being handled and let me know. No venom, just a pinch.
There are some very pretty tarantulas......I like the pink toed one, but there are others more colorful. Scorpions are varied down there. For a real thrill, take a black light outside at night and look around the cinder block walls.....on second thought, don't. A bit from them can ruin your day. We had a big old African (?) scorpion in our zoo, but he was so big, we could handle him. It's those tiny ones that really unnerve me. Anyway, Darcy, hope you are better and well on way to recovery. |
Tarantulas in a petting zoo
I'll stay in upstate NY THANK KEWWWWWWWWWWW |
I saw a tarantula up north...we were hiknig in the woods and lo and behold...a big one!!!!! it was cool......Scorpians on the other hand are not so cool...I was going potty one night and realized that there was no toilet paper on the holder...go figure....took a lean off of the toilet and still couldnt grab the tp out of the cabinet, so I turned the light on....GASP.. If I had taken a step, I would have stepped on it....nasty, nasty, nasty!!! Screamed and of course it was taken care of in seconds..lol.....I really hate those really gross big flying cockroaches.....Panda chases after those.....yuK! \
But folks remember there is a difference from scorpians and scorpio's..haha |
We get one or two scorpions a year but we don't see the most lethal variety (bark scorpions) around here. I got stung last year when I literally kicked on across the patio in my bare feet. I don't know who was more surprised - me or the scorpion! But he didn't get me very hard because he was airborn. I screamed (of course) then killed it. For some reasons scorpions always appear when the husband is not home so I've become pretty good at getting rid of them.
Darcy I hope you're all better! |
