You're smart to be doing the research first! These dogs are amazing, but a very big committment. This forum is a great place to learn. The folks here are very knowledgeable and friendly.
As for how to find a breeder, you can contact Tarja Peters at oescrazy2@yahoo.com. She does the Breeder Referal for the Old English Sheepdog Club of America. She's also a member here on the forum. Her user name is oesrule. She'll be happy to help you! Good luck! (& Welcome to the forum!) |
Hi Ivan,
Please email Tarja, I'm sure she will have some very helpful suggestions for you. The Old English Sheepdog Club of America has a lot of good information on the site. www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamerica.org Look under judges education for a good discussion with pictures on the breed standard. Additionally, there is a club in Canada. It also has alot of good info about the breed. Great info on buying a puppy. Here's the link... www.oesocc.org Good luck in finding your puppy!! |
Hmmm. A few months ago I wrote to Tarja Peters requesting info and received nothing...not even a "kiss my foot." |
LOL Kiss my foot!
That's pretty funny! I'd try again. Yours is the first complaint I've heard, so maybe your message fell through the cracks and was misplaced. You might want to wait until after the OESCA Centennial, I don't know if she's going, but she might be quite busy. Perhaps next Monday? Good luck! ("Kiss my Paw" would have been funny, too!) |
Look up Dog in Canada Magazine...you should find some breeders in BC. |
The Dogs In Canada aka Dogs Annual is an AMAZING magazine. The annual is huge, and well worth the ten dollars... you can purchase it just about anywhere (in Canada)
They also have a quarterly smaller magazine with more details on specific breeds, and tons of other stuff, for subscribers. I have been getting this mag since 1990. I've saved every single one of them, and still go back to look something up from time to time, or simply peruse it's pages. I love it. They have a website, but you can't access the articles etc without a subscription. http://www.dogsincanada.com/ |

Page, The most established breeder I know of in BC is Jerry and Olga Plondin in South Slocan a bit north of Trail. As mentioned earlier in this thread www.dogsincanada.com is a good resource for a preliminary breeder search. You can also acces the Canadian national club OESOCC at www.oesocc.org and click on "executive" to get the BC director. She should be able to help you identify breeders in the Vancouver area. Hope this helps Thanks and Cheers Carl |
Hi,
There are currently no breeders located in the Vancouver BC area. When I purchased my dog three years ago and contacted the national organization for references of reputable breeders, I was given 4 names and I do remember one of them located in the Vancouver WA region. There was also one or two in Redmond WA and yet another in Oregon. Contacting the national organization and asking for references is one way to start. Remember don't be insulted by the numerous questions they ask as a reputable breeder will be very responsible regarding who gets the pups. Good luck with your search.
