I'm afraid that I am too far to recommend anyone!
That must be frusterating! I cannot believe that a vet tech would be intimated by a sheepie! Our guy loves going to the vet! He's like a celeb! Everyone fusses over him and our vet gets right on the floor with him and loves him up, he actually cries when she leaves the room for something! I think her last words were, last visit, "you'd so get in my car and come home with me, wouldn't you?" I drive an hour to get to her! Hope someone close has a great vet for you! Colleen and Gucci George=>*sigh* I love my vet! |
Is it possible to contact your vet who just retired and get an opinion from him? Or, do you have a groomer for Baxter? Maybe they have heard of vets that other large dogs like and go to... |
Might be a little bit of a drive, but when I lived in PA, Ardmore Animal Hospital in Ardmore, PA ( www.ardmoreah.com ). Though my guy was really young when we were in PA, they loved him. If I remember, our vet's name was Dr. Granite. |
My mom and her husband actually drive from Philadelphia to Cinnaminson to go to their favorite vet: Dr. Robyn Steiner at Cinnaminson Animal Hospital, Route 130. They love her. She is very handy with their (rather mean) Cairn Terrier. She herself raises Giant Schnauzers and used to have some other large breed before that. If you go, they ask that you say you were referred by "Wolski." |
I live about 2 minutes from Cinnaminson and since many of people I know go to Cinnaminson Animal Hospital, since it's so close by, Dr Steiner is the ONLY vet there that I would let handle your dog. Another Dr there prescribed Acepromazine to my neighbor's boxer for anxiety when there are red flags not to give that kind of medicine to that breed and her boxer got very sick.
They eventually changed doctors and now go to Mt Laurel Animal Hospital where I also go. I highly recommend them. They are right off of Rt 38. on Moorestown/Mt Laurel border. Dr LoScrudato is my main vet there and she'll get right down on the floor with my dogs. More important than her bedside manner is her skill & qualifications and she's hit the mark on a couple of difficult diagnosis which really impressed me. Unfortunately she's on maternity leave until September if you can wait that long. Also Dr Faas is really great too and loves any kind of dog. The nice thing too about Mt Laurel is that they offer 24/7 emergency care which not to many animal hospitals offer these days. So if your dog is sick overnight, someone will always be there. My only suggestion is if your dog does have any type of behavioral issues that you state them upfront to the vet so they don't have to figure that out on their own. I've heard lots of "oh yeah he bites" stories from my vet after a dog had lunged at her. |
