So on to these two options. 1. A pool POOL A: In a hotel, that rents also lets the public use the pool. We were just there, the kids had a blast. Mind you the pool could do with some fixing, and better hygiene in the bathrooms. Otherwise, it has 2 waterslides, hottub, kiddie pool, and main pool with shallow end and deeper end 5ft deep max. We are paying for kids and parents pay for themselves. $4.60 per person...probably quieter, and not restricted by time...we can start by 1pm... POOL B: Recreation faciltity, wave pool, beach like entrance to water...perfect for babies, waterslide, hottub...busy location, must book in advance. Cost for party $1.75/kid, $3.75 per adult. Must come between hours of 2pm-5pm. 2. Lets Play : similar to McDonalds playlands, but 10 times the size, they also have a few games to play and win tickets like Chucky chesse. Kids are $7.49 and adults are free. Time...whenever. All the kids are between the ages of 4-6, which the exception of two toddlers ages 2. We are then following with a BBQ at our house, with the Spongebob decorations, back to school party for the kids. Originally we were gonna do this at the lake, but that fell through. What would be more fun for you as a parent, or from the kids point of view. |

I will always only be a kid and I want to go to the wave pool! |
Do you think that with so many young kids that the water options are safe? (that's the trauma nurse in me coming out). I vote for the non water option........ How bout a kids movie? bumper bowling or do you have a "discoery center"?
Why not just have the barbq with some "kids games" (that's the cheap person coming out). |
How many kids? The more kids around water are harder to watch, although that would be my first choice....wave pool!!! How many parents?
Will each parent be responsible for their own child???? If not, Im with Ginny, go for the playland thing.....much safer and easier to watch...they're all contained in a pen.... |
Yeah, the kids are pretty young so parents would probably need to swim with their kids. I dread those parties sometimes (the embarassed to be seen in a bathing suit in front of people I don't know that well me coming out!), but the wave pool does sound cool!!! Are lifeguards provided, I forgot if you mentioned that.

For young kids the water things sound like more effort and worry for parents... however, I love the wave pool! I say leave the kids home and go! LOL Oh wait, it's a kid party....hmmm.... |
Yes both pools have lifegaurds...the hotel pool is alot smaller, and should be quieter during the afternoon. Guests check out by 11 am, andnew guests check in after 2 pm...most guest still around go shopping or whatever. The hotel has main pool, next to it the slide area, and then hot tub and then kiddie pool...all nice and compact. Kids can bring lifejackets if they want.
The wave pool is cleaner, newer, and because of the beach set up easy for the little ones to play. but will be more crowded..this is the cheapest of the three. I would never take kids to anything without parental supervison...each parent is responsible for their own children. As far as bathing suits, I am the only one with issues...the others have good bodies. All three venues is approx $50 if we paid for everyone including adults. There will be 5 children, 2 toddlers...1 parent to each child. The party will continue at our house, perhaps with a couple games...long enough to cook a few burgers, and have a beer...this part is optional, kids will get a treat bag, and cake. Seriously our yard is so small you would trip on each other, it's not "game" friendly. I will have pin the pants on spongebob, and maybe a a few school like centers/activities. The kids can play in the sandbox. My only issue with the playland, is if a kid gets stuck, lost, freaks out at another kid...it's very difficult to get to them quickly, to help or discipline...crawling throught tubes is not easy. It is safe for adults to use, but do you really want to. So the adults sit and watch, for me it's boring...but my kids have fun. They are often out of sight...the toddler area provided is nice for the tots. So all age groups can play. |
The Playland place sounds like a bummer for the parents. At least at the other two choices there is a hot tub. I say go for the one with the hottest lifeguards! |
LOL Max!! You cracked me up. Now if she's watching those good looking lifeguards she's sure to forget about the kids.
Daisie's mom :I know you mentioned your yard is very tiny but my previous home had a yard that was very small too and I rented a bouncy castle..kept the kiddies occupied for hours..(You can rent small ones) It was the first time for me actually...bad mom that I was..we always have family birthdays with the cousins until my son complained.(His 3 cousins all were within a year or two of him and born the same month) Horrible as being a clown for 17 years I performed about 200 parties a year...so I've been to thousands..big houses, little houses..front yards, back yards..basements... I found most of the time the kids were just as happy creating their own ice cream cones with trays of sprinkles....then running through the sprinkler. It doesn't have to be anything fancy to make a kid happy. Good luck with your decision what ever you do. Marianne |
Good luck and have fun! mpo is have the cook out at home, play pin the tail on the donkey, have cake, games, prizes, and send em' home happy.
I feel the kids now days get too much too soon. Went to a birthday party once, the mom had the cake, ice cream, provided dinner for about 20 people, had games, etc....... After, opening all the gifts, the kid says, "Is this all I got?" Well, I chose my name "mouthy" for a reason. Immediately, I told him, "Well, I'll tell you what, if you was mine, I'd take everything you did get back, and you're butt wouldn't get anything!" Then apologized to his mother(my sister). She then told him what she thought. He wasn't brought up that way, but.........where's all this expecting more and more coming from? When we were kids we looked forward to getting things when we became a certain age. Like a nice radio, got mine when I was about 13. By that age now they have not only the radio, but a tv, vcr, dvd, stereo, cameras, fancy bikes, etc......... And most of that they have before they're 8. Just my opinion, but I vote for simple, cheap, and lots of memories. Leave the pool parties for the teens. |
Hi Marriane...our yard is very sloped, they couldn't find anywhere flat enough for a castle...it would be funtho.
Mouthy...I hear what you're saying, but this isn't a birthday party, and no gifts will be given...it's our way of celebrating a child's milestone, going to Kindergarten is so huge, exciting...for all...esp if it's the first child (2 parents attending have first born kids going). As well as Parker. For our daughter, this is a going back to school...she is nervous about that too, alot of new things are occurring for her too. So there is no real guest of honour, all kids are here to have fun, and as a thank you for coming I will give them each a "small" goodie bag to take home. Some parents may help out and bring food for the BBQ, and it's a more of a family gettogether....I just want it to memorable....they still love to look at pictures from last year, we had a clown then...best thing I did was hire her. We had it in the back yard, it was so crowded, and the kids had fun but I thought this year we should burn the first major energy off at a facility, then come back and eat, and they can unwind by a video, or planned games, or a quiet activity like a sandbox. It's gonna be set up like school center time (small tables of activities). While we set up for BBQ, and a nice relaxing visit. |
Daisie,
I say the 2nd choice--the one with the wave option. There aren't that many kids coming to the party, so I would think you would be able to keep an eye on everyone. The hours also sound good to me--all that water activity for 3 hours can wear out a kid and if you are going to have something at your house later you don't want them too tired 'cause then they get cranky. You could do this: Wave park: 2-5 Your house BBQ/ice cream building party: 5-7 |
I just want to say thanks for all the reply's. Well my hubby and I were in agreement with the pool...the hotel pool, only because it would be so much quieter.
Then in disscussion with two of parents (moms), they have never been to the Let's Play facility, and would love to have a reason to go there. So it's been decided, the playland. I think the kids will love that, but I hope I don't end up being the babysitter. One mom already asked if it would be okay to leave him while she ran an errand or two. He's a great little boy, and gets along well with my kids...but I just don't want the other parents to think they can do that. I don't have fun with other people's kids, having this party is tough for me, I will be a good hostess and provide food, treats etc...don't ask me to play. I am not that kind of mom. Anyways, better get the invites out. |
I like this idea.
Being a swimmer, I seriously question the safety of 4-6 years old in a wave pool. That's for kids who can swim if they get into trouble. Wave pools are for older kids. And yes, mother's have a problems with wearing swimsuits in front of strangers........yeah gads!! Get over it ladies, you are not 16 years old any longer. Where I swim we range is size from size 0 to around 28 or 30; two, one or no boobs; perky or prolapsed boobs; one lady is naturally bald; and enough scars, stretch marks and varicose veins to make a road map. (sorry guys, ladies' locker rooms are brutal) Please have plenty of adult supervision.........2 kids per adult maximum. Boo hiss on those mothers who look at this as a way to drop their kids off. |
For sure, there will be all parents in attendance...except for the one little boy....
I find at this age kids don't know how to play nicely, they all have the "MINE" attitude still, so not just for safety sake, I want parents in attendence to make sure their own child is behaving and following rules. We felt the wave pool is safe for our two kids but after reading the posts, we agree that it could be a little dangerous if we happen to lose sight of our kid in a lg group. So the hotel was our favorite option. I'll take pictures and let everyone see how it turned out. The moms are happy and think it's a great idea to go to the Playland, and I hope they are not dissappointed. Who knows the one mom (very good friend), is able to stay and watch her son, or the dad can stay. |
