Barney does not like to be searched and he is very squirmy and it is really hard for me to even find the spot, let alone take tweezers and carefully remove it by myself. The 2 other ticks that we have found on Barney were removed by the 2 of us working together. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can do it myself? He is so big and strong compared to me that I can't manhandle him very well and my husband won't be home until tomorrow... |

I usually stand with Panda between my knees, that way I can put pressure on my knees to keep her still..I do this when I wipe her paws off every morning....It may work with with flea checking.
Does he lay next to you by the sofa? I do a lot of checking while she is laying quietly next to me...she thinks I am just petting her... |
I've tried the "Barney between my legs" approach and that only works for so long--usually just long enough for me to locate something on him and then he wiggles away, or moves just enough that I have lost whatever I've found.
He does lie quietly next to me on the floor by the couch, but since we just got back from our wedding, that room is off limits for the moment because it has all of our newly unwrapped breakable gifts and we need to find a place to put everything all away (yes, I know, rough life of a newlywed!). When he is lying quietly on his bed in the kitchen I've tried to go over quietly and calmly, but he seems to sense the second it changes from 'petting' to 'searching' and he starts moving around, or, most often, rolling onto his back for a belly rub. I guess I'll just have to keep trying when I go home for lunch... |
Try doing it while he's eating That distraction seems to work well for Jasper! lol |
