Not sure there is much you can do about it Darcy. Tasker has always been afraid of Thunder and of Fireworks. He tries to crawl under the pillow, yup you heard me, under the pillow. Ty on the other hand could care less. I have no idea what makes the difference. I gave up a long time ago trying to make Tasker not afraid. Now we just shut the windows and turn the TV up loud.
The only time Tasker ever destroyed anything was once when he was home alone during a thunderstorm and he dug a hole in a couch pillow (I think he was trying to dig a hole to hide in ) |
OH...the benefits of having a deaf pup! Though when it starts flashing lightening, its all over!
I thought someone had recommended Bach's Rescue Remedy for this in another post. I had to use this for a friend last week (long story) and she really felt like it worked great! It's not expensive and it's all natural and it just calms you, maybe that would be a good thing to have on hand Darcy? My last 2 sheepies were just like Panda and Tasker! I always felt so sorry for them! Wish I had known of Rescue Remedy back then! Give Panda a Big Sheepie Kiss from GG...he said to say that! Also, he says that he is very brave in thunderstorms and would for sure like to come over, the next time you have one, and "comfort" Panda. He's so BOLD! Colleen and Gucci George=>"Just call (or sign) out my name, and you know where ever I am, I'll come running, just to see you......" PS. Colleen=>I have no idea how GG knows Karen Carpenter songs, but he is a smoothie! |
Havent had any real loud storms yet this year, so I havent seen how the boys will react yet. I did have a german sheperd that would taking a flying leap onto my lap everytime she heard thunder lol |
Oh Darcy, imagine life with 6 scardy cats! I dread thunderstorms as my husband ignores the dogs figuring I'll settle them down. I've ended up closing off the central hall to excude any outside light and sleeping on the floor with them.
If I see a storm approaching and I'm away from home, I rush home. Clancy, our Irish Wolfhound, rubbed her face to a bloody mess, trying to squeeze through a gate to get to her dog house when a storm came and I was away. I'm sure Harry ended up on the shelter after running away from home during a storm.......I see it in his eyes. |
Oh Sheepieboss thats so sad!!! Poor thing! Panda was just comical...I tried to take her out to go potty before bed and she was doing really well, with the rain pouring on top of her, squinting in the rain, and just as she squats, lighting and thunder...she came running...mommy, mommy, mommy...poor thing, I think thats what started the fear thing because last summer it didnt seem to phase her at all.....I couldnt imagine 5 scared babies....You're a GOOD mommy to actually sleep on the floor with 5 nervous nellies |
Bach's rescue remedy or 5 flower essence definately works. My chow who was terrified of thunder storms...heck just rain would set her off...Calmed down considerably after I used the 5 flower essence. I actually only needed to use it 4 or 5 times and then never again. Guess it gave her the confidence to ignore the storms after those first few times. I might add that Chelsea was 10 years old at the time I learned about the 5 flower essence. Too bad all those years she had to suffer.
Hugs, |
Darcy you paint a wonderful picture. I can just see Panda bounding up on top of you, then sleeping with his head under the bed. I had a Collie Shephard mix once that was so afraid of loud noise the at a turkey shoot I was at with him, he wouldn't even eat a piece of BBQ'd beef held right in front of his nose. I finally lost him during a bad storm when he escaped out of the yard and we never found him again. He was a wonderful pet; I could take him anywhere to people's homes and he was so well behaved he was always welcome.
Kim, what are Quote: Bach's rescue remedy or 5 flower essence ?

My two don't seem to be afraid of storms... I WISH we would get a good storm, tornado would be nice... I'm so sick of this weather....
I envy joaeheyo more every day getting to move to Alaska...lol..... |
Wooly my chow cross is afraid of thunder. but I read if you rub them down with a fabric softner it might help some dogs get shocked from the static electrisity caused by thunder storms it is worth a try. It didn't help wooly becouse I think with her it is the loud thunder booms that scare her. Good Luck. |
We used to have another OES named Flash. He hated storms and would try to get under the bed Once he finally realized he was too large for that he hid out in the walk in closet...of course we had to move the vacuum because he didn't like that either. |
Lucy still gets scared but nothing like she used to. I used to have to sleep in the closet with her with a fan blowing to distract her. She'd shake and pant so hard I was afraid that she'd hyperventilate or have a heart attack. Or she'd get so upset, I was afraid she'd hurt herself, like when she went through the mesh speaker fronts on the front of the old entertainment center. The vet finally prescribed acepromozine and it helped a lot. We only had to use it a few times and slowly she adjusted better and better. She's still scared now she'll just want to be close to us. She even lets Clyde cuddle up! |
Darcy, I wish is was just 5 scardy-cats. It's six ranging from MO ast 65 lbs and up to Fox at 118. Glacier has gone from 153 to 95, so she's just average now, LOL. She and Jack weigh the same. What will make the next storm worse is Jack has started eating feces, so his breath stinks!! Imagine that hyperventilating. No wonder he always has the runs!
While we need the rain, may it come without lightning. So quit hogging all the rain over there and send some this way!! |
Hahahaha Sheepieboss Well, the last week metopolitan Phoenix has gotten a lot rain, however, we live downtown. Of all the islands to live on, we had to pick a heat island...lol...it always rains around us but usually not on us....last nights storm was the first rain that our house received since the monsoons started...we just lose power.....sigh...You can have Sun city's rain, all their lawns are rocks any way.... |
Wow, I must have gotten lucky...nothing fazes Samantha. We adopted her on 9/11 last year when we thought that we might be evacuated due to a hurricane. She just hung out with us while we were boarding up.
Well, oops I did think she peed on a rug while the male uprights were setting off fireworks this past 4th. But, the sliding doors were closed and she couldn't go out. |
So true re: the "Sun Cities." Actually Mom's apartment has grass all over the place. Always looks so out of place compared with rest of the three towns. On a retirement income, one doesn't need to be spending $$ on water ony to have to hire someone to come mow it every week. Contrary to what most people think........a lot of those residents..especially in older Sun City and SCW, are on limited incomes. The richer ones have move to SCGrand or up north.
If you want rain, move to the East Valley, they seem to get most of it. Clouds are picking up again so maybe tomorrow we can squeeze a few. |
