Questions to ask a breeder

Maybe if this infomation can SAVE just one person then it is worth it. ASK QUESTIONS!!!!!!! Even if you are not close to where the breeder is at ask if you can come and visit. If they don't want you to come and visit RED FLAG.......Every good responsible breeder wants you to come and visit and wants to meet you. Ask for references of people that own a puppy that is over 2 years old. If there is going to be a problem it will usually show up before the Baby is 2 years old. Ask for a copy of their health guarantee. Ask for the OFA #. You can check this out on the OFA website. Not just the breeding sire & dames names. The reaosn for this is.......My Vet caught a Golden Retreiver Show Breeder bringing in the same female to have her hips OFA's saying she was another dog. The breeders provides the vet with the AKC reg# and name to go on the X-ray. She knew the second dog had bad hips. So she LIED about who the dog was. You really shouldn't have to ask questions the breeder should bombard you with questions. If that breeder doesn't say anything but SEND ME THE MONEY and I will put you on the waiting list......Then she or he doesn't care where their puppy is going. If that breeder doesn't care then WILL THEY CARE LATER IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM???????? Price has nothing to do with quality. Because a puppy cost $2000 doesn't mean that it is better then a $800 puppy. I have 2 Babies here with me that are from a show breeder. So just do your homework and ask lost of questions and go with your gut feelings........ Anyone can have a cute webpage. Don't be deceived by that. Many PUPPY BROKERS have webpages and represent themselves as breeders. They don't even own an Sheepie. They find out what you want and buy it from a puppymill or commercial breeder......Maybe this will save one person and one Baby from ending up in RESCUE........Kaye Second Chance OES Rescue

Excellent advice, Kaye! Thanks for sharing the tips. I must say, I was surprised to hear about the Golden Retriever breeder who tried to get around the system! :?

I aways say information is power. We the consumers have power with our choices if we are well informed. Well done Kaye!
