I just finished taking Zippy out because she NEEDED to go out, and boy did she ever. She's been having runny poops since around last Monday. It all really seemed to start when she was running low on her dry food so Darron (husband) decided to give her an entire can of wet food of a brand we'd only recently started giving her in small amounts and not very often either. I'm almost sure that's what it is because we kept a close eye on her over the next few days and she seemed to start doing better, then Darron decided to mix about half a can in with her dry food (which is a bit more than what we would usually do) and she came down with the runs again. Unfortunately, she doesn't always have to go at night when we take her out before bed, so she's been getting us up at 4-5 am on some nights NEEDING to go out. So I suppose my question is, what is the best and cheapest way (as I don't have a lot of money right now and don't get paid til Friday) to help her start to get better. Blessings, Jess and Zippy |

I have heard that fasting them for 24hours with LOTS of water helps (someone please correct me if I'm wrong!) Then slowly introduce the kibble from before, I wouldn't feed the wet food again! I've also heard that chicken and rice helps also!

Make sure she has plenty of water. Diarehhia (sp?) tends to dehydrate. Give her string beans - 1/2 a can with her regular feeding till the stool firms up. Stay with the food she does well on; any change should be gradual. |
We use pumpkin here. Couple of Tablespoons per meal.
If it's a bigger problem: fast for 24 hours, water only then start them back on ground beef or turkey (cooked) with rice. s. |
I had heard of the rice and beef/chicken, but had heard that the beef/chicken was only so the dog will eat it. Zippy loves rice so we fixed some for dinner and gave her what we didn't each (which ended up being a lot!).
She has been getting plenty of water, but slightly less food than normal, in the hopes that she'll get extra water. What food she has been eating has been her normal dry food. I'm just hoping that she doesn't have us up at 4 am again! |
Thank the Lord that she wakes you! It could be worse. |
Yep, I just cleaned up such a spot the other morning!
Actually, yes, the rice is the binder. I use very little meat in the mixture, just for taste as you said. Problem with rice is, when they eat it, it ends up all over the place, LOL. sheepieboss |
