I feel bad because I don't check him over as much as I used to after walks, since he got shaved. Do you think that this could have happened at the groomers and blood stop powder was used on it? That's why I didn't see any bleeding!? I would hope that they would tell me if something like this happened, but it was a new girl that did him, so I'm not confident she would have told me! Do you think I should bring him to the vet? Has anyone else had this happen to one of their sheepies? I want to reiterate that it defenately is NOT just a cracked pad! Normally I would be half way to vets by now (given my overprotectiveness of the GUC!) but he really doesn't seem to notice this at all! It's seemingly not sensitive when I touch it (seemingly...he has very "ticklish" pads, if you know what I mean...he kind of acts like a DONKEY when you touch them when he's standing up, but has done this since day one! ) HELP! Thanking you all in advance, Colleen and Gucci George=>please help mommy, if she touches my paw and looks at me like that one more time, I'm going to HOWL! |

If it appears to be healing I wouldn't worry about it, just keep an eye on it for infection and maybe keep him on the grass for now when you walk him? |
Coll...Does it look like a cut or a blister? To be safe, you can just put some neosporin on it...it wont hurt it, although he may lick it off...Panda had blisters on 3 of her 4 paws after I let her play with 2 other dogs in a rocky back yard...the vet said neosporin, and airdry...and try to keep her from licking them...she was fine in 4 days...Panda wants me to tell Gucci George that neosporin tastes okay but not as good as lotion... |
If it appears to be healing I wouldn't worry just watch for swelling, discharge and extra licking.
I'd also call the groomer to ask if it happened while he was there and tell them that you would like informed if anything like this does happen in the future. That way you could monitor any cuts or potential infection spots. |
Thanks everyone!
I will try some neosporin on it! And as for the groomer, I am really going to try and do the grooming myself! I've been doing a lot of research and chatting! This way no problems should arise, except for bad hair cuts! My poor GG, or should I call him GP (guinea pig!) I have also discovered that our laneway, which is gravel, is NOT pleasant to walk barefeet on! I tried it with my feet...OW! This could be the culprit! So maybe I will have to get some fashionable boots for GG! Grant is going to freak out! I have a feeling that he won't think booties are very cool and definately NOT MASCULINE! Colleen and Gucci George=>AAAAAH! You are not going to make me wear boots, for crying out loud mommy! |
I keep Panalog around for things like this. You can get it at your vet or online. Neosporin works just as well though! Hope the poor little guy's foot is better soon. |
