For those who are catching up, my OES Abby got sprayed twice late Saturday night. I had some type of cleaner that didn't do anything that night. She and our whole house were unbearable. There was no sleep that night for any of us. The next morning I tried using 1 qt. of 3% hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup of baking soda and 2 tbs. of dishwashing liquid. I applied it on her and rubbed it in really well being careful to avoid her eyes and mouth. Then I waited for ten minutes while she shook and covered us, slurped some and threw up and generally was unhappy. Then I hosed her down and let her air dry. Unbelievably, it completely neutralized the smell. The only spot lingering was near her eyes and I just didn't want to risk this stuff burning them. For the house I sprayed all the rugs and furniture with Nature's Miracle skunk odor remover. That stuff is great. After that I used Febreeze on everything. Now, when you come in the house you do smell it but after 20 seconds there is no odor. My advice....keep a bucket with the fixins because you just never know when this will happen. Skunks are very plentiful this year, so beware! |
