I was advised by my breeder and by other experienced people to wait until at least after the first heat, but preferably to wait until around age two, to give the dog a chance to fully grow, all those good hormones. I had two full sisters (not littermates, but same mother and father) born two years apart. I had the first spayed at six months, like the vet recommended. For the next girl I did not do that. You could tell the difference. The link below might help. Of course, if you choose NOT to spay then you need to be careful to avoid pregnancy. The heat itself is not as big a deal as I had feared. The girls pretty much kept themselves clean. I have done quite a bit of reading on the subject and for me, personally, I would not spay a dog at six months. Hopefully the link below will help! https://www.akcchf.org/educational-reso ... euter.html |
