Winston sleeps on the floor but since it's been real hot here he has been sleeping on the couch by the air conditioner at night. I was wondering if I should buy him a dog bed and what kind. He will not sleep on our bed. Also I notice he moves around to different places in the night. Tell me where your dog sleeps and what kind of bed you have for them |

Chumley sleeps in total luxury. I have donated to her an old down featherbed. Queen size. It is in the corner of my bedroom. Often I think it is nice for a dog to know there is a place that is their own. She sometimes sleeps in other areas to keep me company but when I come home, that's where I find her. She loves it. |
Well, Panda sleeps on a 42'' round sheepie fleece bed. It has the fleece on top, gold and red tapestry on the bottom half with gold braiding around it. It is cedar lined with the filler inside. Believe it or not I got it at costco for 20.00. The outer liner is washable and dryer safe. the inner linner can be thrown in the dryer on fluff only. I couldnt beat that price and not only that, it matched the family room She only really sleeps on it in the winter, its too hot here right now...wood floors with her feet up in the air is the sleeping pose for the moment> |
In winter, Bogart likes the fleece dog bed by Midwest Co.
Summer, he likes to sleep on the floor or tile. We have a carpet which he moves to if he is cold. His soft side crate is open at night, and sometimes he moves between the crate and the tile floor or carpet. All these options work best for him, he sleeps like a rock!!!! |
Leather chair he stole from me! |
Gucci George sleeps on the tile floor mostly but has taken a liking to the leather couch in "his basement". I wanted him to sleep on something fashionable, but that is not working out for me! He also likes to sleep under the Universal Gym, I guess it's his idea of a den!

I don't have one of these, but I thought it was pretty neat:

Wow, those look great! |
Max sleeps in his crate at night, I'm still not ready for him to just be on the loose!! During the day he likes to nap on the AC vent and under our baby grand piano, which seems to be like a cozy little den for him! |
Willoughby sleeps in a large airline crate lined with a mat and a bath towel at night. I'm planning to get him a dog mattress something like the Costco bed mentioned above in the hope that he will happily transfer to that when he is safe to have loose in my bedroom. He likes the current arrangement and the cats sit on top of the container, peering in to see what he's doing. In the day time, he likes sleeping on the tiles in front of my gas fireplace or the linoleum in his space outside the family room. He's got his eye on the family room couch but he's still too small to jump up. Right now he's lying on his back on the tiles with his toes in the air! Lynda |
Has anyone bought one of those cool beds????? I am really considering one for Panda, for outside. The one that I saw didnt need to be "activated". I am really interested though and would like to know if anyone has bought one. |
Darcy: I don't, but I've been seriously thinking about it. Clyde's in full coat and he's been doing a lot of pacing at night and I thought it would keep him more comfortable. I'm looking at this one:
http://www.pets4you.com/pages/canine_cooler/ordering.htm Canine Cooler The large is 94.95 but the extra large is only $10 more and you get a large and a medium instead of just a large. That way both Clyde and Lucy could have one. |
Jill yes thats the one I was talking about....do you know anyone who has one? I just want to make sure for the price that it works... |
I found this thread comical, as our sheepies sleep on a queen size 2 sided pillow top mattress..........with us....LOL We have decided it is time to start saving for a king size bed. Annabelle sleeps in the same direction as CJ and I, and is either found on his side or my side, and Jack prefers the foot of our bed. Usually 3 or more cats can usually be found somewhere on the bed.
Stormi and co. |
For us it really depends what night of the week it is. If I'm at work, my husband lets Toby sleep with him so you can mark him down for the Queen size memory foam mattress. (You can see a sheepdog imprint in it right after he gets up!) The rest of the time, he sleeps in his crate.
We got Norman an orthopedic bed. High density foam, raised, with bolsters along the back, the works. You know where he sleeps? Right beside it! |
You can always do the water bed:
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/P ... 682+113133 Doesn't look quite as expensive as the other. |

No but I think I'm going to buy it and see. It's guaranteed so if I don't like it, I'll send it back! |
Jill keep me posted and let me know what you think...is Clyde a chewer? Thats my concern..... |
Not so much anymore. They say you can run this thing over with a semi and it won't break though! |
I actually purchased a Canine Cooler bed for my OES, Harrie. We've had it for almost a year and he lays on it constantly, hot or cold weather. I've even tried it and the longer you lay on it the cooler it becomes.
I initially had my doubts but I contacted the seller (purchased on eBay) and asked if I could return it if my dog did not use it. When they said yes, that's when I tried it. Caroline suzycb@worldnet.att.net |
Do you know if it will work outside and gets HOT morning sun? Like 95 degrees until 11 am ish....will it be cool once the shade hits it? |
I'd be careful about leaving it in direct sunlight (not that I have one and can prove anything) but the cover is made of plastic. It seems like staying cool in blazing direct sun would defy the laws of physics. I can see the inside still staying cool but I'd worry abou the outer cover.
Darn it. Now I have to buy one just to see. I'm ordering one tomorrow. If it's that good, I'll sleep on it! |
keep in touch and let me know....I really want to buy one for Panda for outside, but its really, really hot out and I dont want to ruin it with direct sunlight or still have it too hot for her to lay on...kind of defeats the purpose |
At night Merlin sleeps in our room. Lately he has taken to sleeping in the ensuite/closet,with his body in the closet and his head on the vent in the ensuite. Most of the time he sleeps in a corner where we used to have a crate when he was a tiny pup.
Avalon sleeps in her crate in the dining room. We tried her in our room, but if ANYONE in the house got up to use the washroom...she would howl and think "OK everyone its time to get up" Now that she is downstairs she doesnt seem to be bothered if we get up. I am hoping to move her back upstairs for nighttime at some point. |
ok, which cooler bed seems better?
The one with or without water in it. The one with water seems like it will be kind of heavy to move around with 5 gallons of water in it. |
Jill, I've seen this Canine Cooler before. It's made by the same company that makes Chillow, a pillow insert for humans. I've been seriously considering buying a Chillow for me, because I HATE hot pillows! I saw the info on their website for the Canine Coolers, too. If you can get an x-large canine cooler for $109 plus shipping, BUY IT!! It costs $169.95 on the manufacturer's site!
If you want to check it out, the web site is: www.soothsoft.com They have pictures of dogs on their beds, and testimonials, too. Let us know how you like it when you get it. I think I'm going to order a Chillow for me, too. Chris |
As soon as I committed to buying the bed, our temperatures dropped to a reasonable level again. We actually got to sleep with blankets last night! Yay! |
Yee Haw to reasonable temps!!! It was actually chilly during this morning's walkies! |
