Shipping a puppy: advice needed!

So, now that deposit is in it hit me... I have to figure out getting this puppy here!

Driving that far isn't an option with my medical issues, the breeder ships cargo, but I don't know how I feel about that? I could fly and the breeder said they'd meet me at the airport and I can fly the puppy home on cabin with me... But PTSD and an anxiety disorder makes that seem unreal... I mean ground transportation seems so long for a puppy?

I've been planning for all the issues I'll have training this puppy to take over as my service dog and I'm now freaking out over just... GETTING IT HERE
Is your anxiety on the shipping cargo for you? Or the pup? My brother has PTSD, so am familiar with the issues it can cause, just want to clarify before I answer :)
Shipping cargo is safe, I have done it with every pet, your best bet is finding a direct flight, to help ease your mind. They take very good care of animals with our airline. Our flight time is 2+ hrs, 4 with the wait times. And all have come healthy and happy to see us.
That is why I ask, is the anxiety with you, or just general worry on your pup.Steps can be taken to make sure your pup is well taken care of on flight.
Driving puts you in control, if you are willing to cover those funds to make the trip, frequent stops for cuddles, and walk, in safe places are certainly workable. Personally, flight is better, as I would be leery on walking a pup in strange places. I feel for you, cargo is quick, and even I get anxious from drop off to de-boarding, it is quicker than a long drive, and the anxiety of the in btwn. I have social anxiety, so cargo worked for me, sign a paper and your out. No in betweens.
And so sorry if I am yapping! I am, myself expecting a pup at the end of the month, and just want you to have the same happy face I will :) we ship here in winter ( -15 c) and the heating and care is awesome! You will be fine :)
The anxitey is both for myself and the puppy, lol.
Driving 1400 miles is just not an option, to many risks when it comes to my medical issues :( We drove 18 hours to pick up our last puppy 3 years ago, and it didn't go well at all.

I think we are going to try and have me fly and fly back with the puppy in cabin with me. Puppy isn't due home till February so we still have some time to decide!
Where is the pup flying from and to? You might find someone who would bring the pup with them. We brought someone else's pup for them. Of course, after hours with that darling baby on my lap, it was hard to hand him over!
We shipped flight, the was from denver to atlanta. I dont know if counting on having the dog in cabin is very reliable an oes will might be too big.

Puppy would be legally be flying as an ESA and size won't be an issue :) My medical team is on board with a service dog and knows while in training the dog will be acting as an ESA, my Dr has already said they'll happily write the required letter :)

And from Raleigh, NC to Dallas, TX :)
Another option would be to have someone you trust fly out and back with the puppy. Of course you would need to pay their way round trip. But at least you would not have to be driving or flying yourself. AND you would be absolutely thrilled and excited to pick your pup up without major stress. :) Just a thought :bulb:
