And what the heck is a bristle brush? Do I condition before I bathe! Do I need whitener? Is blow drying a must?
Blow drying is a must. Get your puppy used to being brushed from day one. Even just 30 seconds here and there, full of praise. I will take a look for some really good posts on grooming.

I have been talking with the breeder weekly, and she is going to facetime me at some point and show me how to line brush on one of her sheepies :) we facetimed the puppies today, I found an MTS hotspot in town, and they are so cute! Eyes open, crawling around, oh I can't wait to bring one home!!
Thanks for the info Mady! I will def be starting the grooming every day, a few times a day!

Where is your pup coming from? If in Canada, he/she might recommend ordering some grooming equipment from Ren's Pets. They deliver and have decent prices. Your breeder will probably also recommend what grooming tools to buy. Because you have winter, you will want to really keep your pup groomed. I find, in Ottawa, when it is super cold it is not so bad, as the air is dry and snow just kind of falls off the hair. But if it gets a bit warmer, like perfect snowball snow weather, the snow can really cling to the fur. Their undercoat can be wet and get matted. The plus side is the sheepdogs LOVE snow, so you will get much joy as a reward for your grooming efforts.
We are in Churchill, Manitoba, so it is cold! Potty training will be a big training binge. Quick steps! Lol
Dryjng can take a veeerrrry long time without a dryer and can leave the dog wet underneath so blow dry is better. The main thin with brushes is not to get one with the rubber tips and the end of the bistles because the hair will get caught. Also make sure the pup is ok with you touching/handling paws and ears since ears will need to be cleaned and the hair removed. I wish I had been a bit more diligent in making my boy lay still while I brush!
I am going to try the brushing after walking, daily, hope it will be a great way to wind down, with a nice treat afterwards :) both pin brushes I bought were without the rubber tips, was a 9" one, Mars I believe!
Toe nails! Get them used to having their toes manipulated so you can keep the nails trimmed. The alternative is a lot of road work to naturally wear down the nails. Also tickling toes helps with trimming around their feet and under their feet. The long hair underneath contributes to slipping on hard surfaces. Watch for clumps between the pads, work your fingers in there to feel for them. You might find a grass awn as well. Awns are awful once they work their way under the skin.

Bathing depends on a lot. Brushing may be enough to remove dirt and redistribute the oil. Some dogs are "oilers" and need baths to combat the stink.

Rear port care, AKA, dingleberries. You must keep the hair around the anus trimmed short. Woe be a dog with long hair back at the exit port and diarrhea!! or just soft poop. Don't forget the urine trail. Urine will roll down long hair in both boys and girls. To reduce dripping and stink, trim, CAREFULLY!

Ears......Weekly cleaning. The flop ear and long hair is good breeding for infection. Also learn how to remove hair from inner ear...like almost one hair at a time. Groomers will grab a bunch and yank. No ear cleaners after pulling hair, wait a day.

Eye boogers......I just pick them out with my finger nail, carefully.
Does the ear plucking need powder to be done?
You can use powder on your fingers which helps to hold the hair but I have a small pair of tweezers that I use so I can get hold of a couple of hairs easier than my fingers and gently pull. They do squirm to start with and Sprocket does a squeaking noise as if saying " get off mum". xx I tend to keep his underneath shorter and back of legs so doesn't get so splashed in the rain. We don't get much snow in England. xx
Good to know! Pehaps a pigs ear woiuld be a great distraction! Lol. I am going to be looking into buying the under garment someone had on here! Will help with the fall weather, and spring melt :)
So far the adult sizes are back ordered, so will have to keep an eye out!
